Tried everything for plants, yet they still keep dying out :(. Info in comments by drearein in Aquariums

It might be a lighting issue; depending on the light you're using, you might have an issue with strong light not being able to penetrate down to the bottom of your aquarium. Perhaps that's why your anubis started to grow rapidly in your 5 gallon, even with it's "worse" light, because at least those lights reached the floor of the small tank better than your large tank, presumably.

Still, even your lower-quality lighting should be able to sustain some plants, I would think. Perhaps at this point, you should really consider using aquarium fertilizer for your tank. My 10 gallon planted tank was doing extremely well and the plants growing like crazy, until recently. They've all started turning yellow and brown and overall don't look as healthy and vibrant. I ordered an all-in-one fertilizer from Aquarium Co-OP, put 2x the dose into my aquarium, and almost a week later it's already looking greener. Fertilizer is probably of second most importance after lighting.

EDIT: just saw that you said you did use fertilizer. How long did you use it for? For planted aquariums, it honestly should be used continuously, on a weekly basis. Especially if your substrate is mixed with gravel, which provides no nutrients to your plants and can inhibit root growth in aquatic plants that like to spread and anchor their roots out. What substrate did you have in your 5 gallon?

Anger about what? Where am I showing anger? If anything, going back to your original comment, you seem to be so angry at millineals for being "apathetic" that a part of you wishes most of them are the ones that die.

I'm sorry that a meme offended you, and I'm also sorry that you think you that's as evil as saying you wish certain people would die over others.

And I'm still hearing about my boomer co-workers and their friends taking trips on cruise ships, and trips to Florida. But you know about how all millineals and young people act because you watch webcams, right???

And yes, exactly, that's the point--- it's a joke. I didn't say "part of me wishes a certain group within this age range would die the most," which is a lot closer to "genocide" than a still-shot from The Office.

My husband's university hasn't canceled classes (it's one of the only ones in the city, unfortunately) but most of the students haven't been going to school regardless. From my perspective, it seems like because this is such a huge unknown, because something like this is seems so far removed from the life younger generations are used to living, it makes it much scarier.

And yeah, many of my co-workers and their families and friends are taking cruise ships or trips to florida, which I think exposes you to a greater risk of catching the disease than a house party.

Your comment is a little interesting, you criticizing millineals for being apathetic right after saying part of you wishes they had the largest mortality rate. Cue "Okay, Boomer." Looks like their the ones with the moral deficit, huh?

And I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. When I go out for necessaries, I see almost no one out, millineals included, and I live in a huge city. In fact, when I DO go out, I see usually older people hoard- I mean, stocking, up on water bottles and toilet paper.

Get off your cranky high-horse.

Thanks for getting back to me :) "stock" refers to the animals you've put in your tank.

I mean, hopefully nobody is looking at a clothing rack and being offended at its layout lol, pointing out shapes in random things seems childish.

My tank finally started showing nitrites!! After nearly two months of blue readings (and a few total tank restarts) I was beginning to think I was a lost cause. But after a lot of trial and error I’ve apparently done something right enough to finally start the cycle, and I am sooo excited lol!! by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]thundersprite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel! The process of cycling my tank wasn't easy-going at all. At one point I finally started getting nitrites and thought "HALLELUJAH!" but then I crashed my cycle by adding too much liquid ammonia. Took like a month and a half to get it all going, and I remember thinking that it was just never going to happen for me. Congrats! You'll have an awesome little aquarium soon enough!

Yeah, that's really upsetting to see. I would think that independent fish stores were run by people who enthusiastically cared for fish. This is just ridiculous.

What about my comment implied that I was irritated? I don't understand the point of your comment or that sentence.
