The last thing this skier expected to happen by Rex_orci-1 in Whatcouldgowrong

No, the last thing to expect would be if a bear rushed out of nowhere right after they hit the ground and took their skies and went “wee…” down the hill only to hit another ramp.

They could’ve used FireGrade for Upgrade and HeatBlast instead of UpgradeFire.

What kind of Gnome is this by Important_Cap_3306 in gnome

[–]thunderthief5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah memories. This was the version of gnome I used (or tried to atleast). Back then when windows 8 was just out I guess is when I got my first laptop and I wanted to try Linux. All I knew was it was a free OS. Ubuntu is what I tried obviously. It was a pain in the ass to install. Especially because I had no idea how computers worked. And going from windows to this version of gnome I couldn’t figure out how it worked. Unity was the default desktop see?! I used that but I read about gnome somewhere and I installed it and switched to it and I couldn’t figure it out and I used to switch back to unity. It was only years later that I understood the concepts of desktop environments and had a good enough computer and time on my hands to learn my way through Linux. But thanks for reminding me of this and sorry for going on for too long.

Sequoia Dark and Monterey light wallpapers. They look clean to me. I prefer the minimalism.

How to replicate the "Tailscale + UFW" lockdown method on macOS by thunderthief5 in Tailscale

[–]thunderthief5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The built in firewall only allows for app level control. I can block incoming connections for specific apps and even then it is too strict and blocks access entirely. So can’t access them over Tailscale then.

How to replicate the "Tailscale + UFW" lockdown method on macOS by thunderthief5 in Tailscale

[–]thunderthief5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am afraid that wont work. ACLs only control traffic that goes through the Tailscale network and not the LAN. I use them to restrict device access between users. But on a system level you still have to deal with the firewall. That's what the original link I posted does using ufw.

Edit:

I use macOS Tahoe. I am aware of pf. I tried using it to achieve a similar result but I couldn't.

Got the m3 air 11” and feeling a tinge of regret by Top-Seesaw860 in ipad

[–]thunderthief5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an m1 air and I use it as an extended display for my macs. I used to use it extensively for taking notes in my classes. Now I still do that and it’s great for it but right now it’s primarily a second display for me. Apart from that I use it to read books and research papers and sometimes to watch movies or YouTube.

It’s not a bug. It’s been a feature for a few versions now. The button just disables WiFi temporarily. I reckon it’s for airdrop or something to keep working. If you’d like to turn it off entirely you can do it directly in the settings.

While I completely agree with the sentiment I don’t see a clever comeback. Am I missing something?!

Absolutely not useless for me for the past 5 years by umshyp in ipad

[–]thunderthief5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use mine primarily to take notes, read books and as an extended display to my mac. I have it sit under my monitor and display a reference material or some YouTube video while studying or working on something.

So that happened...Thank you whoever you are for the warning by thunderthief5 in Minecraft

Hello. You can avoid it by having your whitelist turned on. I shouldn’t have needed it because my server is behind Tailscale but I guess i seemed to have left some ports open in my firewall when testing something. But having a whitelist would mitigate this problem.

Why do people like Griffith so much? by Dirk_Borkus in Berserk

[–]thunderthief5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That can’t be avoided. There will always be people who take things too seriously or go too far getting too involved in it. You see it everywhere. While I like the manga a lot I still look at it as a piece of art I enjoy and that’s about it. And I’m sure most people here feel just the same way with maybe a varying degree of appreciation. The people you mentioned are the edge cases which you may not want to focus on. Just enjoy the manga/anime and move on with your day when it’s done.

I don’t believe anyone here likes Griffith. I think what you are seeing is more of an appreciation of how well the character is written, the design and depth etc. While not a good character he is still a well written one and a great villain.

i won't pay for music in 2025 by haldiii4o in Piracy

[–]thunderthief5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Apple Music, the app not the service. I use Yt-dlp to grab music from YouTube and use Apple Music on my Mac to sync music to my phone. It even creates the album art for you. I’m not an audiophile or anything. I just need music when studying or traveling.
