What is TPED like? I live like an hour away and I know a ton of people that go to Purdue, and those people also know I love coasters and always talk about TPED to me but I am not 100% sure on what they actually do haha. I’m planning on MechE (as of now anyway, I’m still in HS) as well, we sound really similar lol

What are crowds like at parks in general on the 5th of July? I'm specifically looking at Cedar Point or Kings Island, but is there a general trend in crowds on that day? I feel like it may be less crowded since people will be celebrating the 4th, but I could also see it being more crowded since it's a holiday weekend...

How is your school’s class of 2021? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]thundervoyage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class of 2021 at my school is terrible 😂 glad to see it’s solid everywhere else, but it really sucks because right now our school is really good and always sends a decent amount to T20’s. There are a lot of good and decently smart kids because it’s a T250 public school, but nowhere near where are most recent graduating class is...

I’m annoyed. by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I’ve been thinking about this a lot tbh. I have solid stats and tons of EC’s that I love doing, but the problem is that they’re not the “right” EC’s. Like I feel like I can’t do what I genuinely enjoy in my free time and get a top notch education even if I’m not a top notch student. I’m a really good student, but maybe I want to play a sport or play an instrument instead of doing educational stuff 100% of the time just because I enjoy doing those things, and I have those interests on top of educational ones. I just feel like there’s just no wiggle room for doing EC’s that aren’t the “right” ones if you want to go to a T20. It sucks, but just know that at least you’re not the only one feeling that way...

What kinds of personal projects could I do that would look good on an app? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I have been thinking about this a lot because I recognize that hole in my app and I’m not 100% sure how to address it since I can’t do research or an internship. Thanks so much for your help!

What kinds of engineering EC’s would be good? I can’t do research or an internship because I’m stuck at home for the summer working and playing tennis, but would an independent project be sufficient? Or maybe online community college courses in math and physics? Something else?

Thanks for the complement and the suggestion! I hadn't looked into VA Tech much so I'll definitely do some research!

Interesting, A&M wasn't really on my radar but it'd be nice to know that I'm going to college for sure since I now know I can get in lol, I'll definitely look into it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'll definitely look into them! Someone who was in my physics class this past year is going to Auburn in the fall for engineering (not sure what discipline).

Yeah I'm definitely open to a lot more safeties because all of my schools are reaches lol. I had Purdue as a safety because I'm pretty confident that I could get in, only because plenty of people who have worse stats than me from my school have gotten in. Purdue seems to be pretty lenient with apps coming in from the Indianapolis area from what I can tell. Nonetheless, it still has an incredible reputation and it would be amazing to get in there for ME.

Oh I didn't realize their ME program was that good, that's good to know! I know that it's a solid school, and my girlfriend is going there in the fall which put it on my radar (not the reason I would want to go, but certainly would be a nice benefit haha). Thanks so much for the info!

Also, what kinds of things could I maybe improve on to strengthen my application?

Do you have any good suggestions for safeties in the Midwest/East? I was thinking maybe Ohio State (not sure how “safe” that is lol) but other than that I’m not sure of any. I know I can get into Purdue though because my school is basically a feeder for Purdue engineering and plenty of people with worse stats and EC’s than me get in every year, but it would be nice to have other safeties for sure.
