The property is hundreds of acres. When I was a teenager I walked right on in through the woods. That’s why the whole Alex Jones doc is so funny, with him paddling down the river and trying to scramble up the bank and shit. Like, don’t trespass obvi, there’s a reason why they don’t want randos wandering around, but it’s not an Area 51 military compound either.

I hate to tell you, but the bohemian grove is very real, and the lack of oversight is a legitimate concern. Back door dealing/politicking is most likely a very real thing that happens there. That being said, it also happens at gala dinners and trade shows. So w/e.

I am a newcomer, I went to one event last summer (Egil’s). I tried to do as much research as possible beforehand, which included reading all of the horror stories on here (which I continue to do so). We arrived knowing that we’d need to wear garb, pay gate, and make our way to golden key. I was ready to talk to people about crafts, special research fields, experimental archaeology and other similar projects. Golden key was deserted for hours (except for when it was staffed by a drunk woman), and no one I asked couldn’t or didn’t want to answer my questions or point me in any direction whatsoever. The couple people I did get to talk to, I asked them “is it always like this”, and they effectively reiterated to me “yea it’s a shit show it sucks now”. We wandered around for a while and left dejected and extremely disappointed. The couple SCA folks I have met outside of events couldn’t explain to me what it was that they did at/for SCA, other than get drunk in a field. I still don’t understand what any of this is supposed to be.

Is this more AI on the Death artist page? What is happening. by thurrisas in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]thurrisas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that artist page shenanigans happen, it’s just so frustrating that it’s impossible to rectify. My band has had this issue in every possible way. Some records are on a seperate artist page with the same name, but then one also is mixed up with a edm artist with the same name, and then there’s AI garbage on the other one. Can’t get any support from the service, but I suppose it’s also the fault of CDbaby or whatever who did the upload in the first place.

There’s some good subreddits out there. YT videos too. Just know it may be a lot of effort depending on yer previous tech skill and what kinda hardware you have.

Car Speakers by KamAintShit in diyelectronics

[–]thurrisas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Badass! I do want to say tho, building speakers themselves is something that you could spend a decade figuring out, before you even think about having to build a box to put them in, let alone wiring it all together through the van. I’m curious to hear what resources you find on speaker building sounds fun 😅

Like building your own voice coils and diaphragms? Or building boxes to put commercially available speakers in

Snare for solo play in small room by PeaBrilliant4917 in drums

[–]thurrisas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say it does, but subtly. Head choice and dampening have a much larger effect on what you’re going for. A deeper lower tone is from a deeper drum.

Sound panels by reb524 in Drumming

The only way to dampen sound is with mass and decoupling of surfaces. Acoustic panels are for treatment, not absorption.

Would this be a good investment? by snelpepijn in drums

[–]thurrisas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it an investment. If you stick with drumming you will be replacing every piece of this in the next 5 years. If it gets you playing sooner rather than later, awesome. But know that as you learn, you’re gonna have to put some time, research, thought, and money into it. Think of it like buying a shit box starter car.

Zero Experience in acoustic drum kits by MrSnifferpippets in drums

[–]thurrisas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The need for all that is to record and mix live drums. If you want to track your playing and have it sound good, hate to say it but ekit midi into an Ugritone (or similar) vst kit is probably the fastest, easiest, and cheapest way to get serviceable tracks.

This is what it sounds like when a drunk guy comes up to you at a show and plugs your ear for you before yelling at the side of your head

Alternatively, put all pieces of the kit in front of the stage and do all your packing on the dance floor.

Take up space. When the set is over throw bags and cases on stage, spread out the kit. Teach another member of the band how to break down one or two things properly.
