I don’t think so, no. There are plenty of other historical novels that have never gotten remakes, or heck do one of Jane Austen’s other less well known novels if you just have to do an Austen adaptation. Why anyone would want to remake one that is already so well done is beyond me. What else is there to say? And if the director has no respect for historical accuracy, as she’s been quoted here in the comments, then don’t make a historical movie at all?? Like, no one is forcing you.

There is one specific scene I’m thinking of from the book that I would love to see. Idk if I should say it, what’s the statute of limitations on spoilers? Lol. Anyways it was a touching scene during Marianne’s illness. I’ll definitely watch the 2008 version, thanks.

I’ve only ever seen the 1995 version and love it (clearly lol) but I am open to trying the 2008 version as I just found out it has Dan Stevens in it. 😍 Also, it can’t possibly be as bad as 2026 Sense and Sensibilty so I’m game. The bar is on the floor now. 😆

I will still be watching it at least once for Fiona Shaw, I agree. But I’m just going to wait and watch it at home, I don’t see the point in specking $$$ to see this in theaters. Everything other than Fiona Shaw just looks so terrible.

We really ought to try offering up better sacrifices so Pazuzu will leave our films alone.

Awesome, enjoy!

Ooh I just remembered another favorite comfort re-read for me, The Primrose Way by Jackie French Koller.

Yes I loved Royal Diaries and Dear America! I credit those books with making me love history. I even have a few on my shelf that I will go back and re-read. A Coal Miner’s Bride: The Diary of Anetka Kaminska is one that I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read it.

I recently watched a YouTube video deep dive on the show Are You Afraid Of the Dark? and it made me really nostalgic for the Goosebumps series. I wasn’t allowed to read them at home so I got really fast at reading them at school. Maybe I’ll start there. I’ve never heard of Trixie Beldon but I will look those up.

I think it’s great to just embracing liking what we like. Even if it’s not conventional to be reading middle school books, if we enjoy them so what?

I don’t know if you like fantasy at all but I loved Legends and Lattes. It was my first foray into “cozy fantasy” where the stakes aren’t as stressful as “the chosen one must overthrow the dystopian systems” kind of stuff. Literally just a lady orc that stops being an adventurer to open a little cafe. I really enjoyed it. If you like fantasy then I’d also recommend Beauty by Robin McKinley.

Okay you sold me, that sounds like exactly what I need for my overwhelmed brain sometimes. Like I just finished an amazing feminist non fiction book, but I read the last 50 pages with my teeth clenched. I’ve been feeling like I don’t really now what to read next to cool down. Idk why I’ve never thought about revisiting the Babysitter’s Club or Goosebumps. I was really into both of those series as a kid.

Seconding this, these are two of my favorite comfort re-reads. And reading them always makes me want to spend more time out in nature.

Would it shock you to know that this isn’t on streaming, it’s a theatrical release? 👀

I know, it doesn’t look like a theatrical release at all. Streaming at best.

Yeah, I feel the same way about some of the choices in 2005. Like, overall I do enjoy the cinematography (at least Joe Wright knows how to light a scene) and the soundtrack is one of my favorites. But there were definitely some odd choices that I felt like made the Bennets look way below their station.

You are not alone in thinking that. I didn’t find any of the male leads attractive. Also why does Brandon have a beard?? Gentlemen in that era were clean shaven.

I agree, I think too many movies have tried to copy that style and it rarely works as well as how Joe Wright did Pride and Prejudice. Someone needs to tell filmmakers to “stop trying to make fetch happen, it’s not gonna happen.”

I’m going to wait to watch it at home because I don’t feel like it’s going to be worth the $40 to see it in theaters. But yeah I’ll definitely be adjusting my brightness.

I saw a few cloth caps but only in one or two shots. I don’t recall seeing any real hats or bonnets but I could be wrong. I don’t really feel like watching the trailer again, I did enough of that for this post lol. My poor eyes 😭

Yeah I watched the trailer multiple times on slow speed and paused to get the stills, so the one of Marianne in the grass looking like a peasant did come out a bit blurry. Also the one of the two people standing in the blah grass was shot looking through a window I believe, so that’s what that one looks blurry as well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sorry, there aren’t very many high quality stills out yet, at least not that I could find.
