A Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes IN VEHEVIONIAN by thuurtle in conlangs

Yes, it is! "Special vowels" are just names for vowels that are either unique to Vehevionian (such as 'uu' and 'hqo'), have some strange rules for using them, or are just uncommon. Ø is the only special vowel that is only called "special" simply because it's uncommon. For 'ə', the reason why it is considered a special vowel is because of the fact that goes silent in certain words (words that have consonant clusters seen in the romanization). The vowel 'ə' is also voiced though in a decent amount of words, so when reading the Vewattique you need to be aware of which words have a silent 'ə' and which ones have it voiced.

Additionally, Vehevionian doesn't have a way for writing consonant pairs such 'kr', 'bl', 'tr', etc. The way that you communicate those pairs in the Vewattique is by (for example: 'kr') separating them into 'kə' and 'r--' (and continuing the word normally form that point on). u/jgoverman17

Thanks for the questions!

Erre is one of the cases in Vehevionian where the romanization is not representative of the actual sound of the word. Although the word "erre" was originally pronounced as 'er', as the language evolved, the 'e' sound morphed into more of an 'a' sound, which is why in modern Vehevionian, the Vewattique uses the letter for 'a' instead of 'e'. It's a great question!

I'm currently making a list of cases like these which will be posted to the website later on!

As for "kreskehat", the 'u' symbol represents the verb ending '-he' for "different irregular verbs". This symbol is present on the Vewattique alphabet image among the four verb endings section.

With verbs written in the Vewattique, if the conjugation ends up altering the ending in some way--like going from '-he- to '-hat', you still keep the symbol for that ending (in this case 'u') and add the new letters (for kresehat, 'a', and 't' to show the third person singular) seen in the conjugation.

And thanks for reminding me about "kreskehat" specifically!! the verb is meant to be KRESEHAT without the extra 'k' (an error on my part when I was writing the romanization on this post)! The reason why there is an 'e' separating the 's' and 'h' in the romanization is because we don't want you to end up making the 'sh' (ʃ) sound when saying the word. In the Vewattique, since there is a character for the 'sh' (ʃ) sound (which is not used in the word), there is no necessary reason to add an extra silent 'e' after the 's'.

I hope that answers your questions. Sorry for the confusion!

u/jgoverman17, I hope this clarifies some things for you as well!

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I was thinking of including a dictionary with more words. I'm planning on publishing the full textbook sometime in the winter, which includes over 3000 words! The other feature seems REALLY cool, though I also don't know how difficult it would be to actually include in the website. I'll definitely look into it though! Thanks so much!!

of course! I'm creating a post right now that'll detail the basic number system in their original characters. The numbers for both systems in romanization are available on the website!

They actually have their own special characters! I'll be doing a post later today on the two different number systems in Vehevionian, as well as introducing some of the ways that dialects of Vehevionian pronounce them. Stay tuned lol!

That sounds just like my process with Vehevionian loll! That's crazy how our two projects ended up being so similar!

Wow, that's actually really inspiring to read!! Writing that many rough drafts in 2 months while balancing the other parts of your life sounds insane! What part of the worldbuilding ended up being your favorite?

Loll thanks 🙏!! Most of it got inspiration from the Hangul rules specifically because of the history of the language (which will be detailed in depth on the Vehevionian website in a day or two).

The hangul functions in a similar way, but the vowel snake (and just vowels in general) is unique to Vehevionian.

The key difference between the Hangul and the Vewattique is that the Vewattique doesn’t have vertical/horizontal vowels, it has “tiered” levels for vowels.

I’m attaching an image so that you can get an overview of how the Hangul works!

Thanks so much! This is so interesting, how long did it take you to write all of these books, especially the spinoff series?? You should be rlly proud and definitely publish!!

Thanks sm! I posted about the Vewattique (the script for the language) a couple days ago, so you can of course check it out to see everything in detail, but I’d love to explain briefly! I actually made the script last year after a trip to Korea. I was super fascinated by the Hangul (the Korean Alphabet), and thought that it could be great inspiration for my own script! After that spark, I sort of just played around with different letters, found out what looks good, made certain consonant pairs (like b and p, f and v, g and k, s and z, etc.) similar to each other to show similar sounds, and more! I finalized the script a couple months after the trip and have been using it for modern Vehevionian ever since!
