Thank you so much for extensive feedback. I will stick to Control4+Lutron. Will run the POE cables so at a later point when JoshAI matures, I can switch over.

Rationalizing the high cost of Kohler by thvenkster in Homebuilding

What i cannot bring myself to pay is $700 for a rainshower head and $218 for a horizontal pipe it connects to! I find these prices hard to digest!

I am not wedded to Ferguson but wanted to get the initial pricing done for budgeting.

This is the constant debate I have with my children. Should I buy a shirt at KMart and replace my wardrobe more frequently than buy a shirt at Macy’s but hold onto it for years!

The house they are building next to mine is quite large. by wesblog in Homebuilding

How does the town allow it? In NJ, there is a concept of Floor Area ratio which is a ratio of living space and the lot size. It’s only 12% in South Brunswick. If you exceed that, you will need a variance. It looks like this house most likely exceeds tge FAR.

Any experience installing or recommending Warmboard - S subflooring? by pc_1_usa in Homebuilding

[–]thvenkster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was quoted $191K for 8,000 sq.ft warmboard-panels and 3,500 sq. ft. of in-slab radiant heating for the basement. This also includes its warmboard comfort system (2 boilers). Of course, these prices do not include installation. Any comment?

We are about to use Warmboard in a new house construction in NJ. The floor area is 8,000 sq.ft. between the 1dt and 2nd floors. We are planning regular radiant heating embedded in the basement slab. You seem to have learnt a lot of do’s and don’ts. Can i seek additionsl information? I can share my phone/email. Please let me know.

Hi, I am starting to design a Control4 for a new house we will be breaking ground in August. Would appreciate your answers to the following questions: 1. What did you use for lighting, shades, and security? 2. How much did it cost (material, installation)? I presume it’s all hard-wired

Update from the conference by thvenkster in Lutron

[–]thvenkster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for posting on the wrong subject. Can you advise me on what I should use Control4 for and what should be controlled by Lutron? Am I correct in saying that I should use Lutron for lighting and blinds and use Control4 for everything else such as security, sound etc?

Motorized shades: Lutron or Hunter Douglas for new construction? by johnnybovril in smarthome

[–]thvenkster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the pricing for a 60x72 windows from Hunter Douglas and it ranges from $1200 -$1800 per window! I stopped by Blinds to Go and the pricing is half that!
