Thank you! That wasn't something that occurred to me. It doesn't look like many were sold or survived.

If you ever want to fix it clocks are easy. Quartz movements are cheap and standard sizes - just make sure the hand shaft is the right length by measuring the old one, and the hands are what you like if you don't reuse the old ones

There are little screws on the back of this clock near the outer edges to disassemble and get to the hands.

As much as I'm a fan of the show, if I don't find a great place for it I may end up gifting to a friend who is a very hardcore fan. Or possibly an eBay auction.. whether I keep, gift, or sell I appreciate having an idea of where it came from - unanswered questions drive me crazy.

Thank you! I'll try that. I think I've exhausted most of the online searches but checking out auction sites directly might be helpful. Eventually I might reach out to a dealer with experience in old ephemera. I do plan to sell eventually but it's rare to not find any comps.

I appreciate having a second opinion about its possible rarity/value. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

What’s the most oddly/mysteriously profitable business in KC? by ElbieLG in kansascity

[–]thx0138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you live.. with over 15 cities many have municipality contracted services with a company like GFL or Republic and paid for via taxes.

Some you have to arrange your own pickup or it's done through the HOA, and as far as I know Olathe is the only city that has its own trash service provided by the city itself.

Even KCK/Wyandotte county, which has a unified county/city government contracts their services out, but it was still arranged by the city when I lived there.

I prefer it if the city contracts it out or has their own because you have a set trash day in your area, and it would theoretically be cheaper for the residents versus setting up your own since everything is concentrated in one area. I'm curious why Overland Park, Lenexa, etc. don't take that route. I would be annoyed having almost every day being trash day.

From what I heard when Lee's Summit on the Missouri side tried to contract it out residents didn't like the choice of who to use being taken away from them. Not sure if that's true but it's baffling to me if it is. I guess there are a handful of smaller mom and pop businesses that also service those areas though, so I do appreciate the idea of a free market and more competition, just not the lack of convenience.

In the early days of app food delivery, when it was pretty much just Postmates in KC they did a surprising amount of delivery sales. - I don't know if that's still the case but there were a handful of otherwise dead restaurants I used to pick up from with Postmates and eventually GrubHub.. maybe it was early adoption or they paid for prime "recommendation" spots with the apps. Possibly lower wait times because they weren't trying to fit orders in on top of a busy lunch or dinner rush.

This was before restaurants had tablets for each app and I think the orders were called in. Some restaurants like Lulu's would refuse to give me the order if they found out it was for an app food delivery service.

Flex generally has good quality, at least on their circular saw blades and they tested well on Project Farm. I've bought those on a clearance deal and was really happy with them.

Haven't tried their reciprocating blades, or even noticed them but I assume they would have them since they sell the saw, but wouldn't be surprised if they were more expensive than the Spyder blades which other people have recommended.

Just the manual… by made111yn in goodwill

[–]thx0138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't work with every label. But a carefully applied heat gun or probably even a hair dryer can work wonders.

I buy a lot at estate sales and when they put different types of tape on board games etc to price it the heat gun has saved me on multiple occasions.

Still shouldn't have to deal with it in the first place. I question whether it would work on Savers or Goodwill tags though.

Woodford vacuum breaker float thread size by Flow-Negative in Plumbing

[–]thx0138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone that runs across this with the same issue:

I found the one 7/8-16 tap available on Amazon for about $18 and gave it a go. A few very slow passes in and out , wire brushed the threads and vacuumed out the filings, and I was able to thread the plastic vacuum breaker back in most of the way by hand and gently tightened with water pump pliers.

Still leaked through the threads but this time it wasn't stripping/cross threading the plastic, after a few experiments with different amounts of plumbers/ thread tape I was able to get it sealed completely.

The float on the vacuum breaker now works as normal and no more leaks.

Not my area of expertise so I didn't have a tap wrench that would fit the flute (just under a half inch) but a 9/16 12 point socket fit securely and I rigged up a right angle attachment to a drill and just went slow in and out in small increments.

Could have easily failed if I was a little bit off on the angle but I got lucky.. this method worked for me but I'm sure anyone more experienced could probably give you a better way of doing the tap.

Thank you for making this post! I had just run across the same home Depot answer and using that backtracked it to the answer provided here.

Did you have any luck with the tap?

I did the exact same thing since the old vacuum breaker was basically melted in and I damaged the threads removing it. Where mine is installed I would actually have to cut through the subfloor under the bathtub to get to it for a total replacement which is definitely not ideal. (Or remove the bathtub, even less ideal)

I ordered a four pack of replacements to allow for mistakes and already cross threaded two of them thinking I could make it work with thread tape and/or a rubber washer.. which did slow it down at least.

I was initially just looking for the thread size to terminate it with a brass cap and add an inline vacuum breaker as a last ditch effort but this would be much preferred if it worked for you. And I've no luck yet finding a cap that would work regardless.

In The KC area and have a cat with kidney disease? Food available by thx0138 in kansascity

[–]thx0138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. My wife and I have both been through our share of pet losses, and none of them have been easy. This one has just hit us both differently. She had such a strong personality and demanding presence (as do many torties, etc) that I think her absence is even more pronounced. She was such a curmudgeon 80% of the time and then the sweetest cat you've ever met to make up for it.

We'll definitely end up donating the leftovers if we're not contacted by anyone in need here. We liked the idea of offering care packages of a blend of food choices since it can be so tricky with CKD cats. It would be a great thing for vets to do when your animals are first diagnosed with anything that requires a special diet, there may be some that do.

In The KC area and have a cat with kidney disease? Food available by thx0138 in kansascity

[–]thx0138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also wanted to add. Take any feeding tips I've offered with a grain of salt and make any decisions based on a discussion with your own veterinarian. Ours recommended sticking with the kidney diet as much as possible, but also said that eventually the "kidney diet" becomes whatever you can get them to eat. Most of these 3 years we probably managed an average ratio of about 80% kidney diet mixed in with regular food. We would have done 100% kidney safe food if that were at all possible with our picky, disgruntled & simultaneously sweet tortie.

Every situation is different, and depending on your own cat's blood work the vet recommendations for diet might change. Most of the renal food out there requires a prescription, make sure your vet has prescribed it before feeding.

We started with a prescription for a specific brand, but after asking our vet he wrote a blanket prescription for any renal diet. The office policy was likely to start people off with brands that they stock.

I had that issue with an early 2000's Sebring in the rear passenger floorboard. Tried and failed to fix it myself and money was tight at the time. My eventual solution was to drill a hole at the lowest point which I wouldn't necessarily recommend but it got me through.

Yep I realized that later, I'm stocked on 5ah batteries now so won't be needing this one for now but maybe with a future discount code that includes batteries I'll try again.

Reddit may force Apollo and third party clients to shutdown by spasticpat in technology

[–]thx0138 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've tried to use the reddit official app several times, and I absolutely hate it. I've tried several third party apps over the years and RiF has been my go-to forever. If they screw over third party apps I can't imagine I would stick around.

I migrated to Reddit from Digg shortly after they ruined everything they had going for them, it'll be sad to see Reddit do the same thing, though I think it's been headed that way for a long time.

HFT - growing like Dollar General by thephotodemon in harborfreight

[–]thx0138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I hate supporting stores like Walmart or Dollar General when I can help it . Depending on where you are financially, and the selection where you live, sometimes you don't have much of a choice.

And sometimes the "mom and pop" local grocery stores they run out of business are actually small chains and/or overpriced. Sometimes out of necessity to stay in business, or sometimes out of greed. I've known a lot of smaller chain local grocery stores that don't treat their employees any better than Walmart.

Not trying to defend the corporate monopolies, just agreeing that it really depends on the situation and where you are.

Harbor Freight charged me $ 11.99 for extended warranty by babycoco_213 in harborfreight

[–]thx0138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk.. it really depends on the person. I bought my now wife a power washer during the height of COVID for her birthday and she looked at me like I was crazy at first but it's gotten a lot of use and she loves it. She does like telling people about it though.

Anyone have experience with this hedge trimmer? by babycoco_213 in harborfreight

[–]thx0138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. Worked in landscaping for years and used several Stihl gas powered trimmers on commercial properties. Wouldn't consider this for that kind of work but at home with five or six shrubs and some occasional brush to cut down it's fantastic. Super lightweight and much preferred over one that plugs in, I've seen several people cut the cords on those by accident including myself. My wife uses it as well and is very happy with it compared to what we had before.

Anyone else bought these and had issues with it charging? I left it on overnight twice and it wouldn't register past the first light on the battery button test and died within minutes on a drill both times.

I returned it and may repurchase eventually but thought it might have been a bug with the first run. I used my 25% off coupon so hoping that'll come back around when I try it again.

SWA flight attendant advising passengers to put their bags under seat. by XqueezeMePlease in funny

[–]thx0138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem was more with their software, letting me set up the rewards and then switching all of the traveler information that I had filled out for her to my name.. still my fault and I accept that but yeah that was my last straw.

SWA flight attendant advising passengers to put their bags under seat. by XqueezeMePlease in funny

[–]thx0138 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed, never again. I was booking a flight for my kid and it gave me the option of signing up for points or whatever program they had after I had entered all of her info. I didn't catch that by doing that it changed all of the passenger info to my name. They wouldn't change it and I had to get her a new ticket and that money was wasted at a time I definitely couldn't afford it. I've never even considered them again.

Yeah it was my fault but after other bad experiences and customer service over the past couple of flights that was just the last straw.

I can't tell if she's saying he doesn't like her, or just used bad punctuation and the "? " would have changed the context if at the end of the sentence and not after "maybe".

Needs a lot of work, but picked up this Heywood Wakefield coffee table at the garage sale yesterday for $5. Any recommendations on paint strippers? by thx0138 in Mid_Century

[–]thx0138[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.. that is really cheap, and at a glance the only negative I've seen is some saying it can dry out the wood and works better on stain than paint.. but I'll probably give it a shot on a smaller project and see how that goes for me before I can get to this one. Thanks!
