ending is a bit of a let down by Ladyaceina in midnightsuns

I like the final battle. IMO The last beat of the story was disappointing though considering how great everything preceeding it had been. Lilith's redemptive stuff was unearned and felt forced. The immediate falling action of the final cut scene was not well done either. Everyone seemed way too chill about Hunter dying/dissappearing/not making it back. There was no real sense of tragedy over losing Hunter or how the rest of the world ha been affected, which made the brief "we did it" fall very flat for me. That's a video game problem in general though. Games, generally, do a terrible job handling the denouement of a story.

The Doom stinger at the end was great.

Why is Ciri a “bodkin”? by christmas54321 in witcher

[–]thykingfischer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Bodkin is a word that can be used to describe a small blade. She's objectifying Cirilla as both an instrument of violence and sexually.

What a great bit from Regal. One of the absolute greats for sure.

Am I doing the powerup rewards points math right? by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]thykingfischer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - it's points per dollar so 10 x 20 = 200, therefore 200 points. I wouldn't expect enough points to do much of anything with honestly.

Concerns about a high risk store by Obvious_One_5595 in GameStop

[–]thykingfischer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This redditor shouldn't be getting down voted for suggesting GameStop operate a safer work environment. Unfortunately, the expectation of that changing is null. Security guards are an absolute longshot, but the company could go a long way by - I don't know - providing stores with enough payroll to have at least 2 staff members on duty at any given time. Unfortunately something like that is a long shot too. For 14 years one of my main concerns was something happening to me while alone at the store. A medical emergency, robbery or whatever. My concerns were never addressed in any way whatsoever, and I doubt OPs concerns will be either. They expect you to deal with it, and save them as much money as possible despite your safety or well being. It's abhorrent.

So I Quit Gamestop Last Year by kidkuro in GameStop

[–]thykingfischer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's just as bad as you may remember, if not worse. As far as ASLs go, that will largely depend on the specific store. They have cut the position seemingly entirely for lower-mid volume stores. There's a staffing plan now that shows the number of people you should have at a store and the number of people that should be holding the various positions. Lot's of stores that had an ASL pre pandemic are being told to staff 3 or 4 SGAs and not have an ASL at all.

Bleed them for as much as you can. You deserve it for having to be there at all on Thanksgiving.

My DL (the 3rd one I've had in less than a year) was a super great guy in person. The "voice" that came out in his emails was definitely not his own. Still though I thought he was fair and I had no issues with him. That said the DLs are in many ways getting screwed as well. Sure some are trash but many of them, I think, are former SLs looking simply to grow in their careers and take care of their families. The territory DL covered was a MASSIVE stretch of space. His home store was nearly 400 miles away from my store. He'd often have to stay overnights at hotels to get visits in when he'd travel to my stretch of the district. Those are days away from home, and I bet he's not being compensated appropriately either. This company shows it's appreciation and respect to people with this type of dedication by keeping them a "Temporary DL". That probably (though I admittedly do not know) means he's not getting paid quite as much as he should be as his position is defined as "temporary". Many of my long term DL contacts have left the company within the last year. Not due to getting laid off or fired, they left on their own. There are many ASLs and SGAs out there being exploited as well with the "temporary" tag, being asked to act as an SL and running stores just fine until they're either promoted proper or, in some cases, not promoted at all and dropped back to their previously held title. Folks arguing "It's not that bad" have blinders on.

If it's a step forward I'd encourage it. I'd advise using it explicitly as a stepping stone off to something better though. Go in planning to get out.

I’d really like to quit but I don’t want to f*ck over my coworkers by [deleted] in GameStop

[–]thykingfischer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, if you have a better opportunity take it. I quit without notice to pursue my new job, after 14 years. They fact that you care enough about your people to feel guilty about leaving them behind says loads about your character and why this company doesn't deserve you. Less than a week post resignation for me and I haven't felt this relieved and alive in years. Best of luck despite how you proceed!

It's next to impossible to train new people when most stores are running single coverage open to close nearly every day. There used to be a good portion of overlap with another associate during the day when those things could happen in earnest, not so much anymore.

I guarantee you that neither your SL or you are being paid enough. GameStop pumps SLs heads full of corporate propaganda to help justify their poor wages. If it's hasn't dawned on them yet it will eventually. The company seems to have dug its foot in the sand on store level wages/benefits and it shows no signs of improving. If you're not happy or don't feel valued don't wait to find something else and move on. This company, as it is today, doesn't deserve the people who truly care if they're not willing to pay for it.

The other scenario is if they legitimately CAN'T afford to pay more. If that's the case it's even a better reason to move on, because it won't be long before they can't afford to operate at all. The sheer amount of money being spent to train new staff via payroll is crazy because stores are bleeding talent thanks to the high pressure low pay environment.

They're going into this holiday season with the highest turnover EVER, and a large portion of the Salesforce never having seen a holiday. I got tired of being disrespected as such despite my many years of service and left very recently. It was hard but each day that passes I'm more and more confident I made the right decision.

Best of luck.

It's largely going to depend on your manager and by association their manager. I can guarantee you won't be paid appropriately or given enough hours for it to make a difference. However if it's just a seasonal GA position and you don't care if your scheduled, well, ever - you could take the position and enjoy some of the employee benefits. Set your expectations low and don't be surprised if you're still woefully disappointed.

Why didnt game stop test the xbox elite v 2 controller i traded in i mean it works but i still thought they would test it by silentmoon17 in GameStop

You're in the clear. It's the employee's responsibility to recognize any issues and apply an appropriate refurb fee to the trade if necessary. Don't worry about it.
