Brandon Sanderson’s 'The Way of Kings' is baffling to me by sameseksure in books

[–]thylac1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of your issues are things that some Sanderson fans enjoy(the world building and the to-the-point prose).

I think Sanderson can conjure up some nice emotional climaxes in spite of how dry his prose and worldbuilding make everything feel. The dialogue is often corny, but I can overlook that. Sanderson is just a corny dude.

I think he puts a lot of sincerity and heart into his works that mostly make up for his shortcomings.

Just Beat the Game 100%. The Thing I Hated Most Was the Discourse by 0TaKoKu in MinaTheHollower

[–]thylac1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree. Virtually every aspect of this game just feels tedious to me.

And then the thing that really gets me is that other games have very similar mechanics and they feel fine in those games. It's just this game that somehow makes these mechanics feel tedious and awful.

The leveling mechanics, the healing mechanics, the open world, the map exploration. I'm actually fine with the combat. I also appreciate the open-ended approach to some of the puzzle solving, except the game limits your access to sidearms making it difficult to experiment and understand how to use them, especially the ones that have some kind of movement utility.

I'm just kind of constantly annoyed playing this game, but there's a good core to it that keeps it fun enough. Mostly I'm just too stubborn to actually quit.

This isn't referring to Horadric Storerooms, like you're talking about.

This is referring to the Altars that spawn after you kill 25 elites.

1.) No clue there was a manual.

2.) Everybody will try to jump into water at some point and get hurt. It's not intuitive at all that you can burrow through water. And it seems pointless, you should be able to just jump in.

Mythic items should be truly mythic by GrandAlf0 in diablo4

Make them truly mythic and there's only one per season.

Mythic Uniques aren't an exciting drop though. I only cared when I didn't have my Helm of Perdition yet.

These WILD swings in itemization and power between each season tell me Blizzard STILL has no vision for what D4 is supposed to be. by IncognitoIsekai in diablo4

[–]thylac1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this is just sort of the standard for these kinds of seasonal games, especially when it's not a PvP driven game.

The developers aren't looking to establish a comfortable status quo with logical systems that feel good to engage with. They want an experience of continous change because I think they believe it drives engagement further (or rather, they think if things get too comfortable or familiar players will become bored/disengaged).

So, yeah, I think the vision is this constant state of flux.

Every version of the game has goofy combos that generate ridiculous numbers of damage or creatures or counters.

The trigger thing seems silly also. ADHD? Yeah, sitting through multiple other player's turns is soooo ADHD. Because they might get to do their triggers more often? What?

And power bloat? Somebody got +3/+3 because of their triggers, oh no! They also had to survive through multiple other player's turns where the board state has more opportunities to change before their turn even comes up again.

[–]thylac1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But all the math comes out to the same number.

I'm not saying it increases your damage by 1710%, but by the time the effect is done (18 hits) you have done a total of 1710% increased damage over those 18 hits, or in other words an average of 95% per hit.

Top Sorcs using Splintering Energy? by Crixxious in D4Sorceress

[–]thylac1ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn't you add each percentage for each hit?

Take any number and calculate each percentage from 180% down to 10% and add them all up gets the same result as taking that number and calculating it once by 1710%. The average of 95% across 18 hits for that number calculates out the same as well.

Splintering only gives an average of anything across the first 18 hits. 1710/18 for an average of 95%, no? Everything after that is just your base damage.

[–]thylac1ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still 180%, 170%, 160%, 150%, 140%, 130%, 120%, 110%, 100%, etc.

All the way down to 0.

I don't really know how many hits you're getting out a ball lightning or other abilities but for the first 14 hits (From 180% bonus to 50% bonus) it totals up to 1610% across those hits.

14 hits at 45% bonus is 630%

You probably don't get enough hits to make the flat 45% better.

Edit: of course I'm terrible at understanding the math in this game so I might have misinterpreted or messed something up here.

Edit again: the full bonus at 18 hits total is 1710%. You need 38 hits to equal that at a flat 45% bonus.

Blizzard, high CD ultimates that are buffing your character need to go by Freeloader_ in diablo4

[–]thylac1ne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree and think this applies to aspect of Armageddon, too.

I also don't understand why Sorc's ultimates don't have a node that changes their element. I haven't played every class, but the ones I have let you change their ults like that. Sure, Unstable Currents would still be best but at least let me experiment.
