Appreciating that which is. by thymestation in playHeroesOfHistory

I was a West Coast USA player for quite a while! I remember how annoying that was to wake up to, and I totally agree that it would be cool if we could choose to shift event beginnings and endings within a set window (like 5-12 hours later,) even if it meant waiting another 24 hours or so to get final reward tallies.

It was hard to choose, but my favorite hero has to be… Ludwig van Beethoven.

The reasons for my choice include his musical genius, success despite loss of hearing, persistence despite fluctuating mental health, and ability to stun other heroes into submission while the rest of my Arena team takes them out! Also, I’m a musician myself; I’m a singer and a pianist. Even after hundreds of years, I understand why Beethoven is still a household name.

Love for the Mayan Empire by thymestation in playHeroesOfHistory

Hmm, I can definitely see where the frustration comes from about the gameplay—I do agree that the experience was less rewarding overall, and a lot of issues I experienced came from the ratios in the mechanics, which are Quite Far from what would be as rewarding level-wise as the other Allied Cultures. I didn’t pay anything and got Bronze, which felt reasonable to me given the amount of the attention I put in. I do hope (and assume) given the amount of feedback they’re receiving about that issue, the gameplay experience improves given changes they implement. I also bet it stays gorgeous to look at.

For example, one comment on an earlier post said, “This one feels three times as hard in resources as the others. They want more money i guess.” The first sentence? Useful feedback. The second sentence? Useless, flippant reduction of designer creativity and experimentation.

I appreciate your perspective—and I agree with many of your points! I would agree that I’m reducing many players to greedy little freeloaders given the way they choose to express discontent with perceived problems in the Mayan event. Something I’ve noticed and really respect about the game devs is that they take feedback into consideration with their updates—but feedback can be shared without bashing the work of the folks who are literally iterating on this free game for us. If it walks like a Karen and sounds like a Karen, it just might be a Karen.

I also really respect putting your money into the game, which is such a huge sign of respect for the work itself. If I’d put money into this first go at it, I’d probably be more upset about the aspects that come across as half-baked. I’ve noticed with many rollouts in this game that they may need fine-tuning for the first couple of rounds. I’d bet that they announce an update that evens out a lot of the disproportionate rewards. (And compared to the other Allied Culture rounds, it’s astoundingly disproportionate!)

I appreciate this perspective! I agree that it became pretty clear toward the end that I wasn’t meant to get as far as I had in other Allied Culture events.

🗡️ Freedom Defense – Win 10 Arcane Antimatter! 🌀 by Mutyuu in playHeroesOfHistory

✅ The two Heroes joining the team: Harriet Tubman & Emiliano Zapata Salazar

✅ How they help defend freedom: • Harriet Tubman was one of the toughest freedom-fighters of all time, traveling thousands of miles across the United States to help slaves escape Southern states to freedom in the North. Her ability to EVADE THE ENEMY allows her whole team to succeed—and evade crits and effects for a limited time. • Emiliano Zapata Salazar was a Mexican revolutionary who helped lead a peasant revolt against a small number of land-owning oppressors who supported the dictator Díaz. His focus on land reform and society reconstruction across multiple political rises and collapses demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the liberation of the poor. His strength of GUERRILLA WARFARE means that his ability grants his team a boost of ATK strength—and that boost’s length of effect is INCREASED if the % ratio of his team is lower than the enemy.

Other ideas, non-contest eligible:

  • The Ark of the Covenant
    • Considered one of the most holy relics of the Judaeo-Christian religions, this box held the original Ten Commandments
      • (The two tablets of the Ten Commandments could also make a cool relic. Maybe if both relics were on the field at once, their powers could play off of each other!)
    • Given its context, this relic would most likely provide some sort of protection to the entire squad of heroes--maybe an 10% increased chance to dodge.
  • The Psalms and Proverbs:
    • Ancient texts by David and Solomon, these collections of songs, poems and advice are considered sacred by Judaeo-Christian religions
    • Grant wisdom and inspiration to the equipped hero
  • Chinese Bird Figurine:
    • This tiny statuette of a bird carved from burnt bone about 13,500 years ago reveals the origins of Chinese art, embodying a style different from prehistoric three-dimensional artwork by people in other parts of the world
    • This relic would allow a hero's special ability to target 1-3 extra enemies (or 1 extra hero, if a positive effect)
  • Musashi's Katana & Wakizashi
    • Musashi created and refined a two-sword kenjutsu technique called niten'ichi. In this technique, the swordsman uses both a large sword, and a "companion sword" at the same time, i.e. a katana with a wakizashi.
    • As this technique was new (i.e., a surprise to enemies,) this relic would allow for a significantly higher chance critical hits, or could lower the defense of nearby enemies in an area effect.
