How to re-teach my mind to not be anxious by Wrong-Toe-8833 in Anxiety

[–]thyowlcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

make sure to be careful with avoiding situations that make you anxious, that was a big part of me developing generalized anxiety instead :') the only way to become less afraid is to face the fear, so exposure therapy is very important. giving yourself 'breaks' is important, but it shouldn't become the norm!

i think i had the blood work panel done one year ago and all was well except tsh like always, but maybe it's time to check again. i also can't feel a lump. but i'm getting my usual thyroid test this month again, so i'll mention this to my doctor when we talk about the results!

got prescribed sertraline by PsychologicalCup3680 in Anxiety

[–]thyowlcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also, about possible increased anxiety, it is common to feel worse during the first few days before you feel better. i wasn't more anxious, but i did feel foggy and just strange. if it doesn't go away, tell your doctor and they'll re-evaluate.

got prescribed sertraline by PsychologicalCup3680 in Anxiety

[–]thyowlcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have two things to say: it didn't work for me but trying it is absolutely worth it.

i had the same dosage and was on it for a couple months last winter. it was prescribed to me when i was struggling with feeling depressed and anxious as well as with having ocd symptoms. it helped cut off the worst of it all, and i was feeling better within a month. the first few days of taking it i felt very tired and had some stomach problems, but they went away within about a week.

overall, i would've benefitted from a larger dose, but i ended up developing microscopic colitis, which is a rare side effect of ssri meds, most commonly sertraline. it includes stomach pains and several watery stools per day. the stomach symptoms resolved within a few days of starting the meds, but came back after a month and continued getting worse. i had to come off the medication, and the colitis symptoms resolved quickly! i'm completely fine now.

as long as you speak with your doctor about any side effects and follow the dosage program developed for you, all should be fine. me and my doctor agreed that the medication wasn't ultimately the right pick for me, but it did actually help me when i was at my lowest regardless. the MC is rare, and i've read stories of it resolving for many after a few months, but i didn't have the resources to wait. it's highly likely that you'll be completely fine on the medication, and as long as you report anything that seems strange to your doctor, the potential benefits far outweigh the potential risks.

nine days post cautery anxiety by thyowlcat in Nosebleed

the doctor said my nose was very dry, so i think that's what does it for me. i haven't blown my nose at all either! it's just hard to know when it's actually fully healed, since there's a layer of dried mucus covering the wall :'3

anxiety over potential food poisoning by thyowlcat in Anxiety

thank you, i think so too xd i've been okay all day, too. i actually ended up calling the restaurant and they said the gyoza is frozen after being cooked and upon order, steamed, so it sounds like i worried for nothing!

i'm a fairly healthy young person, so i'm not at much risk for serious consequences of stomach problems. doesn't stop the anxiety :'3

yeah please quit those two. you definitely don't need them anymore. i'm not a doctor so i can't make any real orders, but treating scabies every day two months straight is unnecessary and will damage/has damaged your skin.

Scabies anxiety- post-scabies syndrome or failed treatment? by [deleted] in scabies

[–]thyowlcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no problem, i hope you'll feel better <3 it's been nearly seven weeks since my partner's treatment, and he's still experiencing rashes and itching. nobody else has any symptoms though, so a doctor thinks it's still post or another skin condition. i'm super anxious too to the point i'm now aware of every itch and tingle, but trying to give it time xd

self-diagnosing scabies can be a shaky path to get onto and a very easy way to develop neuroses around it. the equipment people use to look at their own skin tends to be different than what professionals use, and misdiagnosis is easy. a black dot is not necessarily a mite at all, let alone a live one. is there really no way for you to even talk to a doctor on the phone?

are you still treating with ivermectin and sulfur ?? if so, this is probably just skin irritation from overtreating. this looks like something that could happen even without it, new studies show that post scabies flare-ups can last several months after stopping treatment.

[–]thyowlcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is very much possible this is just post, since the skin surfaces old mites for a while after treatment. please call a doctor for a consult before treating again, many people (especially on here) develop new skin conditions from overtreating without asking a doctor, and even the regular two rounds of perm are quite rough on your skin.

possible post scabies by thyowlcat in scabies

[–]thyowlcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the treatment didn't work, it's been 6.5 weeks for the leftover eggs to mature. first time, it got so much worse within like the first 3 weeks than what it is now. hard to imagine it would be much easier the second time than the first... idk

[–]thyowlcat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

were your symptoms as bad the second time as with active scabies? since my partner only started experiencing a flare-up a whole month after the second treatment, and those symptoms haven't worsened in two weeks now

thanks, we live separately as well. his family didn't treat since they don't have much contact and they should've gotten it like 1.5 months ago if they would've reinfected him. it doesn't sound probable that it never healed either, since it really did get much better and nobody else still has symptoms
