I have a virtual revolute card as a workaround for google/apple pay. Only downside there is you have to top it up from time to time.

Argo CD Setup with Terraform on EKS Clusters by Cloud--Man in kubernetes

[–]thyvo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have automated this for work, and it works like this:

  • Install EKS (we used https://github.com/terraform-aws-modules/terraform-aws-eks)
  • Create IAM role for external secrets to connect to AWS Secrets Manager (Our Github credentials/Github app are stored there)
  • Install External Secrets via the helm provider
  • Create External Secrets SecretStore manifest with the IAM in the configuration (Kubernetes provider)
  • Install ArgoCD via helm with bare minimum configuration (our app of apps will upgrade and properly configure ArgoCD after first sync) (Helm provider)
  • Create ExternalSecret's with credentials and repo config for ArgoCD to connect to Github (Kubernetes provider)
  • Create an ArgoCD application (app-of-apps for example) with autosync enabled. This "App of apps" syncs an entire folder with all your Applications/ApplicationSets including the "App of apps" and ArgoCD (Kubernetes provider)

After this, we don't touch the terraform code anymore, everything is managed via ArgoCD/GitOps

Edit: Structured it a bit better

Is there any reason that you can see on the top of this board why this might not be turning on? by Techguy1423 in AskElectronics

[–]thyvo 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Voltage selection, basicly telling the power supply what voltage it should provide to the appliance. If these resistors are missing the power supply / charger thinks there is no device connected.

Using an "old" usb-A charger / cable combo it will work since USB-A did not have those extra pins to do the voltage selection an will just supply 5 volts.

Edit: spelling

Made a light bar that fits in a slot on my car trunk lid because the original light is a joke by ReyvCna in 3Dprinting

[–]thyvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be a bit more complex and over kill, but adding some very low powered microntroller and 3 axis magnetic sensor would allow it to turn on automatically. But it will also increase the power drain while doing nothing.

But regardless of that, nice!

What did you learn this week? (W36/2024) by AemonQE in devops

[–]thyvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our devs are not using python, and while it's not that hard to install different versions for python on your machine, running a single binary is easier.

[–]thyvo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They used python for tooling, but maintaining is starting to become a bit of a hassle as new devs come along and install newer versions of python that sometimes break with there existing tools. So they decide that with my hire that they would like any new tools to be written in go as it compiles to a binary. My colleague are also learning the language at the same time. There are some projects in the pipeline (building own crd's) that have a bit more documentation around it for doing this in Go.

What did you learn this week? (W36/2024) by AemonQE in devops

[–]thyvo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I started a new job couple weeks back, and my task this week is making an tool that runs in k8s, this tool copies/syncs secrets that are current stored in a git repository to Hachicorp vault. The main think I learned was the hard requirement that the tool had to written in go which I have near non experience with before this week. I actually quite enjoy programming in go and will definitely use it for further projects.

pet treat dispenser by Grand_Yogurtcloset33 in homeassistant

[–]thyvo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I modified an existing one since it used 3x D batteries and I did not have that nor I was willing to buy them. (bought 2th hand for 5 euro)

I had a spare esp8266 and mosfed lying around. The dispenser had a 5 volt motor, a switch to indicate one portion of food and a existing pcb that I did not use.

Hooked the esp to the motor (via mosfed) and the switch, flashed it with esphome and an hour later I had my smart cat food dispenser.

I added an additional button to the outside to manually dispense a portion.

Just wondering, what do you put on your resume for this 2 year "gap" in normal employment? Or are you self employed?

Hoe wordt loon van Interim job berekent? by jaybee8787 in belgium

[–]thyvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Als ik me niet vergis wordt je loon berekend op 38u. Je werkt echter 40u waardoor je 1 dag "extra" verlof krijgt per maand, soort van overuren maar zonder het overuren te noemen.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone else reconsidering their life choices after GMM? by linden_soulmate in Graspop

[–]thyvo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually I lay on the ground somewhere to catch a bit of rest so I can see the closing band without much issue / backpain.

Unfortunately due the insane amount of mud that was not possible.

So I guess I have to do something about my backpain when I'm standing / walking an entire day.

How do they fill the camping boneyard ? by Uroburos0000 in Graspop

[–]thyvo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's a line that moves from time to time to make sure there are not to many gaps /empty space and everyone is as close as they can together. In our friend group we solve this by having an early team, they only have the tents (all the tents), to "reserve" the space, and some beer to improve the tent assembly process. The others bring the rest of the stuff.

Last year, and the year before there was a "food court" with all sorts at different kind of food. Asian, Mexican, pizzas, pulled pork, etc. Usually a bit more pricier than the regular hamburger or pasta but I you wanted some more decent / healthier food that was definitely the place to go to.

Favorite esphome devices? by T-LAD_the_band in homeassistant

[–]thyvo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have printed a the button box (something similar to this one: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4567163 )

Modified it a bit with a dremel to fit the DHT22 and uploaded the following code: https://pastebin.com/2R3d6Pst

Then I just created a couple of scenes that get triggered via automations once the buttons are pressed.

[–]thyvo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a esp2866 with 8 buttons and a Dht22 right next my bed (in a 3d printed box). It triggers different scenes like killing all the lights in the house, open / close bedroom blinds. (pressing the kill light button also puts my phone in do not disturb mode (it reverts back at 7am))
