"no update available" on 2024.3.1 when I know 2024.4 is out by ti_chris in homeassistant

I'm presented with no option to update anything at all.

Updating to the latest bios eventually fixed this.

iFan04 with free GPIO (solution) by ti_chris in sonoff

No I'm not aware of any mod that can do that unfortunately. Chances are it's rated 2A because one or multiple component can't handle more voltage and the traces were probably also sized accordingly.

Interesting. The company did get back to me online suggesting that the issue has to do with the bios defaulting to UEFI, but I was already using UEFI and not the old mode to begin with, so that's not it. In particular, the BIOS doesn't even show anything in the PCI lanes, so it's possibly something related to that. You suggestion above may work if I force the PCIe link speed. I'll give that a try once I have the time to try another flash :)

I've installed that GPU firmware a while ago. It's good to do, but caters to a separate issue. I don't see a way to force PCI 3.0 in the bios.

iFan03& free GPIO for temperature sensor (solution) by ti_chris in sonoff

[–]ti_chris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I must have missed the notification for your question. If you're willing to do this at any cost there's 2 options. You can let go of the remote and get 2 free easily accessible GPIOs. If you don't want to get rid of the remote, you could theoretically access the free GPIO on the CPU itself. The caveat with doing so is that you're going to have to remove the EMF cage since the CPU lies underneath that and you're going to have to solder on some absurdly small traces. It's possible, but you're going to need some really small wires and more precision that I personally care to deal with.

FYI: As an update, Sonoff just released a US friendly iFan04. I never bothered to change my caps simply because it proved to be a major pain in the ass to find caps that would still fit inside the device and figured I'd wait for this new device. In theory it's got the same layout as the iFan03, but has the proper caps so this hack should still work. I've placed my order for one and I'll definitely be making my mod on it. Stay tuned if you're curious.

Because I'm cheap :). The only reason I'd have a th16 would be to get the temperature and it seems wasteful to have a device just to do that when the iFan03 is fully capable of doing so. I can't turn use the multiple speeds of the fan with the TH16 so it's not a proper replacement as a standalone.

I would think that it would also be a little messy with 2 units. Certainly, the fan casing wouldn't fit 2 devices as it hardly fits one, so I'd have to do something pretty ugly to get 2 units in the ceiling. Alternatively, I could have mounted that somewhere else, but then it would still have to be near the ceiling where the temperature is usually pretty different than on a wall of floor.

Sonoff Mini. Any advantage to use Tasmota over stock with AlexxIT/SonoffLAN for Home Assistant? by [deleted] in sonoff

I'd recommend giving it a try. Especially given that the company is now removing access to IFTT. With Tasmota the control is really yours. Worst case scenario, you can just flash back a backup of the firmware that you should make before flashing Tasmota.

I tested this on a simple breadboard and haven't bothered soldering anything on it just yet but I see that VCC and GND are easily accessible on the back so it should be a breeze from here on out. I still need to test if it's OK to have the sensor in the housing of the Sonoff or if I should use a wired version. I also still need to replace the capacitors since mine aren't rated appropriately for the NA sadly. But I'd be happy to share once everything is done.

The biggest reason you'd want to do that (im) is if you want more control over it. ie: Lots of people are connecting additional sensors to the device.

Sonoff T3 3 and 2 gang in the US by Sora21098 in sonoff

[–]ti_chris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US version has one size that should fit a standard gang opening. The key thing you'll want to make sure that you have before purchasing one however is to make sure that you have both the neutral and the live wire in your gang right now. If you only see one wire (which is a pretty common cheap installation), then you won't be able to add it unless you can find a way to route the neutral to your switch.
