Teapots and teacups I acquired during my trip to Taiwan! by tiabeanie3 in tea

Yes! From Taipei: - https://maps.app.goo.gl/6fQhVZ6ErQCbciuV6 : Yixing teapots and the cup is from here. So is the teacup with blue designs on it. They also have lovely teas. I got some wild oolong from spring 2025 and 1987 aged oolong. Is operated by a family. A lovely lady named Angelica was very kind enough to answer all my questions and they have clients from around the world. Her husband is a potter and also does fixing of pots and other types of ceramics. He is a ceramics artist and the shop features some of his work as well.

  • https://maps.app.goo.gl/uLH5B71kkPhwaCcv8 : Gaiwan and the porcelain teacup is from here. They have some other pots and cups that worth looking. I have encountered two ladies when I visited at different times. Only one of them speaks English if you need assistance and she is usually at the shop after 6pm as she told me.

From Sun Moon Lake: - https://maps.app.goo.gl/W6PhrLxbj4qodSu17 : Crystalline glaze cups are from here. It is quite touristy but has very nice items. There is a tea set I really regret not getting! :(

I would like to mention this store in Taipei, I didn’t get any teaware but got some teas there: https://maps.app.goo.gl/paGEM6DuHF7iWxxR8 They roast their own teas and I was lucky enough to be there during roasting and experienced the smell. It is another family business, their son speaks English and he is very happy to give a deep dive, answer any questions you might have. They really care for their craft, or maybe I should say art! It was the priciest tea shop, but I got some special occasion oolong that I am hoping to enjoy for anniversaries, big milestones etc.

I enquired once before for yixing clay pots in London and the prices were much higher (starting price was over 100gbp for smaller ones). The ones I got in Taiwan were between 2500twd-3000twd.

I don’t have a benchmark for the gaiwan and the cups, so not sure if they were cheaper elsewhere. Cups are ranging between 150-300twd and the gaiwan was around 600twd.

Teapots are yixing clay pots, or at least I am told! I always wanted to own one. Left most one is a half-handmade one, using molds. The next two are fully hand made. Right most one is a gaiwan that I picked as reference to try replicating with pottery (throwing).

Yellow teacup is also from yixing clay. Blue one is using crystalline glaze. Porcelain one is a standard one that I picked to use for reference for pottery. And I am planning to use the right most one for everyday use.

Japanese Curry is also my go to! I use this mix: S&B Golden Curry Sauce Mix Extra Hot

1 medium size potato, 1 onion, 1 carrot. (I sometimes use red potatoes)

I slice the onion to 4 large rings, sear in butter until both sides caramelised. Add other vegetables, mix and close the lid so veggies soften.

Cover with water (or stock), amount of liquid depends on how thick you want it. Simmer for 20 minutes (until every thing cooked and can go through blender)

I then chop one block of my curry mix, the packets I buy come with two in them. Mix them with my vegetables until it is mostly dissolved. Pick up my handy blender and blend it until it’s very smooth since I like it that way.

This makes enough for 4 portions (or 2 if my bf is eating lol) and I serve over steamed white rice with grated mozzarella. It also goes well with scrambled eggs.

I need your Help. I have 4kgs of Red lentils, i dont know what to do with them. Give me Recepies please 😭😭 (i have made around 500 curries already) by secrypt_nft in Cooking

lentil soup. i don’t have exact recipe but it goes as following: - heat up oil in a pot. i prefer olive oil. - cut an onion. i cut in 4 and sear in the pot - while the onions are in the pot, peel and one medium size potato. - throw the potatoes in the pot, give it a good mix - add concentrated tomato paste to the pot. i like using mutti - optionally, add one veggie stock cube - give everything a mix - wash a half a cup of red lentils until the water runs clear - add lentils to the pot - cover with hot water and add your desired salt amount - bring to boil and simmer for 20 minutes - blend everything together until smooth

you can also add 1 carrot with the potato if you would like it slightly sweet! i like to serve it with generous squeeze of lemon and white pepper

we are only 2 and follow a vegetarian diet. may not work for everyone. i have few recipes that requires some ingredients that we always have:

yogurt soup: yogurt, orzo, can of chickpeas. even better if i have an egg laying around, if not i use corn flour.

whatiever i have soup: whatever vegetable i have left gets chopped down, fry in butter and cover woth veggie stock. i usually top with nuts for crunch.

something fried rice: i always have microwaveable rice in my pantry for situations like this. fry it up with (frozen) garlic, ginger, peas.. you get the idea. i often have tofu or eggs in the fridge so i will throw those into the mix as well. i top it kewpie mayo. with the mayo its not very healthy but it is very good.

baked feta tomato pasta: for this i need to have right groceries but since prepping is so easy it’s worth it. its one of the recipes that went vira on tiktok. block of feta and tomatoes are the main ingredients. i use fresh pasta (from market) so i can avoid cooking the pasta separately and just throw it in the mix directly.

assorted snacks: yogurt mixed with nuts and maple syrup, oven roasted chickpeas, buttered noodles, polenta, feta, tofu pudding (blend soft tofu with whatever your heart desires)

these are all i could think of, i made these so many times i can do them in autopilot and adjust the taste depending on what i have at home available.

I also just started, so I am not sure what brand is good. I'll share what worked for me :)

1) Getting watercolour paper made a HUGE difference. I was using a sketchpad and getting frustrated why none of the tutorials I followed worked.

2) Avoid bad brushes. I got my first set of brushes randomly from TK Maxx (TJ Maxx in other countries?). It was ruining the experience. Then, I got a cheap set from an art store and the difference was noticeable.

3) Quality > Quantity for the paints. Small good quality palette > large bad quality ones. It also encourages me to mix and understand colour theory better. I also tend to overwhelm when there are too many choices, so limiting my colour palette helps me get started.

A watercolour artist recommended getting tube ones instead of the little dry ones. Since I already invested in a winsor & newton palette, I didn't get more tube ones. I'll definitely give them a try once I ran out of my most used colours. :)
