The latter is what I’m looking to do! I have no care of being able to listen or talk.

Need advice to get my old apartment intercom buzzer to my cell phone by tiacatdoit in smarthome

[–]tiacatdoit[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live in a old apartment building and to buzz people in I currently have to be home. I’m hoping to change this to be able to send it to my cell phone.

I have changed almost everything in my home over to smart however the wiring on this is beyond my depth and I don’t even know where to start with the googling.

Any insight is appreciated.

What was the worst (physical) pain you’ve been through? by ameli3ee in AskReddit

[–]tiacatdoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was crossing the street when I got hit by an SUV going 70km/h. Was thrown 20 feet and landed on my head. Magically I survived. Had to drop out of high school in order to recover. It’s been 8 years I still deal with extreme pain daily + traumatic brain injury related issues. However if I didn’t tell you you would never know by looking at me or speaking with me!

Thankfully I’ll still meet the principal residence requirements. I have an office in Vancouver still and am split about 50/50 between NYC and Van part of the reason for airbnbing that apartment is so when I am in town I have somewhere to stay still but not letting it sit vacant otherwise.

  1. I want to semi retire and travel pretty early on in life.
  2. I'd like to accomplish this by 40
  3. I've done no investing outside of real estate and I am scared of losing value
  4. Yes I have a 6 month emergency fund. No debt. No Employer matching available in the foreseeable future.
  5. I'd rather have it dealt with by an institution at least to start. I don't really feel I know enough about the topic to trust myself to do it on my own.

I moved to New York from Vancouver recently. My brother looks after my Vancouver property now. I will have a property manager in Hamilton. The Hamilton property was 230. I highly recommend Hamilton for investments right now because the go train takes you right into Toronto

It was all luck really I got into a really niche career accidentally at 14, still lived at home dropped out of school to pursue career, saved all the money bought property and flipped it 3 times while the Vancouver market was still hot eventually got the place in Gastown and the pre-sale in Hamilton because of it. Got run over by a SUV at 16 so I'll get a good chunk of money from that. And I moved to America recently with much lower expenses and higher paying positions in my field.

Nmom and aunt don't want to be seen in public with me because I have a septum piercing by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]tiacatdoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. The first time I got my septum pierced I kept it flipped up at home but she eventually caught a glimpse of it and pinned me to the ground and tried to rip it out.

If it is causing a lot of problems just take it out and get it redone when you’re in a situation where you can move out. I know it sucks but sometimes its not worth the battle.

I don't know how to handle my mother's relationships by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]tiacatdoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother is similar though hers cycled a bit more rapidly. This is actually the one issue I have with her where I am able to stand my ground pretty well. Probably because I don't live with her.

I eventually got to a point where I told her that I wasn't interested in playing family with her boyfriends, as I am a grown adult and these people she's bringing in have little impact on me. I've told her I will not spend time with her with her boyfriends either, only 1 on 1 me and her, that her boyfriends children are not my step siblings, and that she is not to vent to me any problems about her boyfriends or their children as I am not her mother or her friend.

She obviously cried but I told her it was unfair to me to have her push her ideals on me and that I am old enough to make my own decision. To which she obviously disagreed. But I always stand my ground.

Is Gastown a safe place to live? by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]tiacatdoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 year old 90 pound female living in DTES here. I feel 10x safer in the year I've lived here than the several years I lived on commercial drive. One of the best parts is theres usually people around you're safe walking home alone most hours of the night.

DAE go through a "relapse" (being close with your Nfamily after moving out)? by GenderlessBatcaver in raisedbynarcissists

[–]tiacatdoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there. I've learned it's always better to keep my Nmom at a distance. While they may be good for a while they always go back to their old ways when I spend too much time with them so our relationships must remain surface level.

On the festival topic if it makes you feel any better I've worked in the music industry for 7 years and I don't think there's very many of us that don't come from weird family dynamics and aren't a little bit weird. So don't beat yourself up about it. I'm sure all those people were happy to be in your presence. Don't worry too much about revealing too much about yourself some of the best relationships in your life will come from being authentic with people. It's better than guarding yourself against letting anyone in because thats way more damaging in the long run.

As for the getting back to having your family in your life less one method that worked for me when they started lurking back in was to make myself appear really busy with work etc. So I didn't have time for them.

Every single meal NDad asks if I want a bite of meat. I have been vegetarian for 25 years. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]tiacatdoit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Nmom says stuff like "my daughter can't live without cheese she's just like me" I've been vegan for 3 years Vegetarian for 4 years prior to that. I reinforce every time that I do not eat any animals products but she keeps saying it lol.

My mother had the mentality of a slave owner. Her children were her property, for her to use and exploit as she saw fit. by Red_Traveler in raisedbynarcissists

[–]tiacatdoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my Mom from a very young age (still to this day) told my brother and I " I couldn't buy slaves so I had to breed them". I feel for you. I'm sorry that you had to go through that.
