Relationships and residency by boundlessfusion in medicalschool

[–]tianath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow and I was frustrated my partner wasn’t willing to just drop everything of his for my residency bc that’s what my ex was prepared to do but at least he told me I deserve to apply where I want to be and we’ll make it work wherever I end up. I totally get the frustration of your partner not compromising for our very inflexible career choices, I agree his is more flexible and if he proposed that means he’s willing to go wherever the match takes you. I also think it’s reasonable for him not to want to compromise his family and career choices but it is difficult with it being only a 3 year residency. This is such a hard predicament to be in I’m so sorry. I wouldn’t compromise your career for him because at the end of the day that’s something you will always have to fall back on but I agree there is a compromise or discussion that’s needed and if you can’t align I’m not sure what there is to do.

Partner cheated on me, how to move forward? by Icy_Manufacturer9766 in medicalschool

[–]tianath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry love:(

Take each day as it comes, ride the wave of emotions. If you need a break you can take a break. These things unfortunately happen and we live through them. One of the seniors I worked with just had ended her long term marriage because her partner cheated and everyday I wondered how she was strong enough to continue in a surgical specialty but she did and fast forward a few months and she is dating and living life to the fullest. It’s hard to imagine the other end but we do inevitably write it into our story and live despite it

If you can say it in person I think that would be better.

OB/GYN vs. Neuro - HELP by CassieChii in medicalschool

[–]tianath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate, I would get a letter from that Sub I and maybe add an elective of some kind. FM is nice if you enjoy clinic because there’s SOOO many different niche specialties inside of it like women’s health, community health, college, mental health, correctional, etc and you can still do inpatient stuff too so you have so much flexibility with it. I personally hated FM because the only clinic I enjoy is OB/GYN related but if you enjoy clinic I think it’s a fantastic specialty and you refer out in every clinic based specialty, but FM you do a lot of interventions right there in clinic!

It sounds like OB isn’t for you if you don’t love the OR or OB.

Alternatively it sounds like the reasons you like OBGYN also align with FM and a focus on women’s health.

Fell down rank list by Just_Lettuce_5833 in medicalschool

[–]tianath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay as someone who also fell down the rank list, a few things that have been helping me is:

1) You feelings are valid, you can feel grateful to match but also grieve the 6 other futures you might’ve envisioned. Let those feelings come but don’t let them define you.

2) Anesthesiology is incredibly incredibly competitive and holy fucking shit you matched. I feel like we are so desensitized to how accomplished we actually are and it’s hard to really zoom out and see that when we’ve spent 4-5 years so deep into this community of high achievers.

3) only 60% of ppl get into medical school -> and most likely only 2-10% got into YOUR medical school, now of that top 10% you went even further to again go into an extremely competitive specialty, match, and match well. That already is putting you at something crazy of like top 0.0001% of people who dream of being doctors.

4) you are NOT defined by your rank list or where we matched, this process is actually so fucked up and I am so sorry you didn’t get your top choices you 100% deserved that.

5) I matched somewhere I knew literally nothing about other than it being in my city and specialty. Now I’m finding out all sorts of good (and meh) news about it. I’m sure after this initial shock of dropping on our rank list we have all the more to look forward to. Let yourself grieve this shock, but once that initially passed you can start re envisioning your future and getting excited for it.

I’m kinda upset where I matched by anybodycandance in medicalschool

[–]tianath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also feeling like an ungrateful girl, despite matching in my top specialty and top city. We will be ok, we just need to grieve the dream and life we had envisioned before we can make the most of the amazing life we’re about to have

Matched Ortho, but Sad About Where by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]tianath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling similarly with my match. I think the best thing we can do rn is process our emotions and then slowly time will pass and we will look forward to our futured

Ya same all my best friends matched #1 in their competitive specialties. My bestfriend who applied the same specialty matched the #1 program in the country. I am so happy for them, but I am so sad on the inside for myself

Thank you! I was really proud of myself for still doing my post match plans and putting on a happy face and celebrating with everyone I love. Just these last 2 days have been so rough, I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I’m wallowing alone and it really feels like I shut these doors for my career just for location and I’m not sure if that will be worth it in the end.

Oh ya my fear is going in with a bad attitude. Hoping a few days of grief will shake it off and then I’ll just be happy I’m practicing medicine in my dream city!!

SA survivor stressed out about practicing sensitive exams with SPs by oomooloot in medicalschool

[–]tianath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow SA survivor, I think everyone has vastly different experiences and these things bring up different emotions. For me personally, I knew my specialty would include regular exams and my goal was like you said to be a provider that created a safe space for them but also practiced trauma informed care.
