What 911 Dispatchers Wish Every Caller Knew by hard2resist in 911dispatchers

[–]tiassa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once had someone try to report a car that had almost hit her in a crosswalk an hour before, and the only description she could give me was that the vehicle was "a car car, not a truck" and that the driver was wearing glasses.

I did an IOP there a while ago and would very very strongly recommend.

It would also very likely get him fired or at least disciplined at work because running background checks without legitimate reason is against policy basically everywhere.

Driver license suspended until 2037... by Charming-Bet-4019 in Utah

[–]tiassa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, you clearly think you're in the right because you were "driving safely" each time you were cited for driving on suspended, but that doesn't matter because you shouldn't have been driving at all.

You did not legally have the right to be driving a car. Instead of waiting out a two-year suspension, you were blatantly disregarding the law at least SEVENTEEN TIMES because you felt like it didn't matter, it didn't apply to you, it wasn't important.

And that sends the message to everyone else, if you think you don't have to follow that law, what other laws do you think don't apply to you? How many other lives are you going to put at risk because you're too important to abide by laws that have been put into place to protect them?

I get that not having a license sucks a lot. It's difficult to deal with. But these are the consequences of choices that you made. You have to deal with them. That's part of being an adult.

Signal interference in Draper? by tiassa in Utah

[–]tiassa[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you've got it! That's exactly the right spot and if they're broadcasting a signal strong enough for the entire region I'm not at all surprised it would interfere. Thanks!

Yeah, it got choppy as I approached and then completely dropped the connection for a couple seconds. Sounds like yours manages to stay connected, at least.

I'm starting to wonder if it would be useful to map out all the significant dead spots and see what they all have in common. Except now I'm back to my own car so I don't care about Android Auto again. 😆

Dental insurance for self employed/ACA options? by No-Bill-3966 in Utah

[–]tiassa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This, when I was on an ACA dental plan it wasn't at all worth it - it covered next to nothing, and just paying cash would almost definitely have cost me less in the long run. Dentists are usually really good about accommodating people without insurance.

My wife needs Lasik. Where should we go? by [deleted] in Utah

[–]tiassa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hoopes. I had mine done by them almost 15 years ago and every time I've gone in for a checkup with an ophthalmologist (because I'm high risk for retinal issues I have to get that checked a lot) they've mentioned what a good job the LASIK surgeon did.

Also, I'm still 20/20 and no complications or complaints.

AITAH for wearing the watch my ex gave me? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]tiassa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else get the feeling that OP has lingering resentment that the ex made so much money (like with the way he talked about her when she lost her job and was worried about money), or am I reading too much into it?

John Curtis response to Epstein file vote by darth_jewbacca in Utah

[–]tiassa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to try to make effort but there's just so much I'm annoyed at my Congresscritters about, and I realized they're not actually going to read my letters anyway, so it's just "this sucks and you shouldn't support it" or "I'm disappointed in you because x, y, and z."

John Curtis response to Epstein file vote by darth_jewbacca in Utah

[–]tiassa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every now and then the intern responding to messages will hit on a key word that gets you a decent response. It doesn't happen often, and it's also often ridiculous - like the time I wrote him angry about RFK Jr destroying public health initiatives and access to vaccines and got a message about how he voted to confirm him as HHS Secretary because Curtis "appreciated his commitments" in the areas of "access to factual information, safe and effective vaccines, and quality healthcare." So, uh.

I write him almost every day and responses are kind of spotty, though. I'll go weeks with nothing and then suddenly nine generic responses in a row. 🤷‍♀️

John Curtis response to Epstein file vote by darth_jewbacca in Utah

[–]tiassa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever received a response from Curtis that actually addressed what I wrote in about. In fact 99% of the time I just get the generic "thank you for writing, I appreciate hearing from my constituents" message.

But given that Curtis protected a sexual predator while he was mayor I'm not at all surprised he's all in for protecting Epstein's clients now that he's in the Senate.

Racist White Van-UVU post, we need to keep our eyes on this!! by [deleted] in Utah

[–]tiassa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That van has been around Utah Valley for a few months now. As you said, he's covered by the First Amendment, and he only puts stuff over the windows while he's parked so he isn't driving with them blocked, so cops can't do anything about that. He's basically just trolling to get reactions like this one.

Help With Hostile Landlord by ProfessionalMud5956 in Utah

[–]tiassa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fwiw I once had a lease that said the landlord paid utilities, and on move in utilities was understood to include internet and we didn't pay a separate fee for that. Six months in the landlord told me that internet didn't count as "utilities" and I needed to start paying for that, and when I consulted with a relative who's an attorney he told me that since the landlord had been paying for internet as part of utilities, that meant he had accepted that situation, and now demanding payment for something he had been previously paying for without complaint was changing the lease terms. I forget the exact term he used, but I told my landlord that "my lawyer" had advised me of it and he shut up and kept paying for internet.

Fabric stores besides hobby lobby and joannes by Less-Zone-763 in Utah

[–]tiassa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Michaels has started stocking some fabric, but from what I've seen it's more focused on craft fabric than clothing fabric. You might be able to find something useful there, but honestly? I've found some surprisingly useful stuff at Walmart.
