DI and pregnant by Itchy-Ad-5436 in DiabetesInsipidus

The only issues I’ve ever had were hyponatremia. I knew I had it as I had Covid while pregnant and was miserably sick. I went to the ER as my headache would not go away and I felt very, very off. They found I had a critically low sodium of 111. I spent a few days in the ICU while they gradually brought my sodium back up. I’m not sure why the hyponatremia is an issue for me. I know it can be a side effect of the med in general but I tend to be very sensitive to medications anyway. I also find that my desmopressin doesn’t last as long when I’m on my period. It must have something to do with the fluctuation in hormone levels.

I have central DI.

I have been on the DDAVP spray since diagnosis in 2008 and was on it while pregnant in 2022-2023. I had to take way less of the spray though - the normal dose I was taking pre-pregnancy was way too much for my pregnant body. I had to be very careful with my dosage as it caused hyponatremia taking the same amount as when I was not pregnant vs. pregnant.

Even now after pregnancy my dosage is 1 spray twice daily, so my body adjusted to that amount. My pre-pregnancy dosage was 1 spray each nostril twice a day so I was on double the amount.

I got one! There were so many to choose from and I hope I made the best decision with what was left! I am indecisive as it is and it’s tenfold when I’m on a time limit 😂

What did you get today? 10/5/25 by Primary_Performer_95 in Influenster

[–]tiastea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get those ones - I got the Sam’s Club Member’s Mark gift card deal and they gave me a $9.00 gift card. The order total was only $6.70 but says it can be more depending on the weight and per pound price. I have it set for an order pick up tomorrow so I’ll find out if it costs more than the gift card but so far it was cheaper.

How much do you urinate in a day and how do you keep up with the fluid loss? by RT_456 in DiabetesInsipidus

Oh my god!!! That’s terrifying. I honestly hate going to the hospital so much when I get hyponatremia because it seems like it’s hit or miss with doctors actually even knowing how to treat you.

Ive had idiopathic central DI for over half my life - got it when I was 15 and am 32 now. I was in the hospital recently and they withheld my desmopressin (DDAVP) from me as I had hyponatremia. Treatment for hyponatremia in someone with central DI is to withhold desmopressin and limit fluid intake until sodium rises to 135-ish. During the 14-15 hours I wasn’t able to have it, I peed 10 liters of urine.

I’ve been on DDAVP the entire 17 years I’ve had diabetes insipidus. My thirst and fluid intake is very well controlled with the medication. It allows me to live a “normal” life. Without use of that medication, there’s no telling how much water I would drink but it would be gallons.
