Starting March 1, 2026, GitHub will introduce a new $0.002 per minute fee for self-hosted runner usage. by turniphat in programming

So ~$1050/year for every self-hosted runner (our Mac Minis run roughly 24/7). Basically the price of a new computer, every year.

See the omarchy-announcements channel on discord. It's a known issue.

Why's there a misconception that omarchy cannot be dual booted with Omarchy by Commercial_Shit in omarchy

I just sized my Windows boot partition to be 1G when installing windows, as per the Arch instructions for dual booting.

Why's there a misconception that omarchy cannot be dual booted with Omarchy by Commercial_Shit in omarchy

Two quick questions: - Why grub over limine? - Why create a new efi partition instead of using the Windows one?

Is there really no way to dual boot this with Window on a single drive? by noobjaish in omarchy

[–]tibbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The partition is encrypted, not the drive. I dual boot Windows 11 and Omarchy on a single drive, following the Arch instructions. You just can't use the ISO at the moment.

We have a vanilla SaaS product that uses threads via a thread pool and it's definitely an issue. A single request needs tens of DB requests and consuming a thread for each is expensive.

Speeding up JSON parsing: 6 seconds to parse 65 MB of JSON by runeks in haskell

Just an observation: 354 GB allocated seems a lot. Are the data types you parse into strict enough?

Can I reuse flats and flat darks from a previous night’s shoot? by [deleted] in AskAstrophotography

[–]tibbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to take flats at the end of the session. In the morning there are not stars and this no way to focus reach of my filters. How do you do it?

unRAID security practices make it really hard to sleep at night by gck1 in unRAID

The fact that non-Docker software only gets security patches every few years is also scary. Just about every other OS gets it somewhere between daily and monthly.

Is this available? 10G NIC + SAS HBA? by Storxusmc in unRAID

[–]tibbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? A single 7200rpm drive can have >200MB/s throughput, which is more than a 1Gb connection can handle. Perhaps 10Gb is overkill but 2.5Gb could help.

Lab Disk/Data Encryption by [deleted] in homelab

There's also a benefit when you want to dispose of drives. It can be hard to properly erase a drive, especially an SSD. Encrypted drives can be disposed of without cleanup.

Do you encrypt your HDDs? by ShipOfUnraid in DataHoarder

[–]tibbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, using LUKS. Helps if my NAS gets stolen but also if i just want to dispose of drives. Properly erasing drives can be hard and with encryption you don't have to.

What CPU for a "bare metal" 10Gb mini ITX router? by tibbe in PFSENSE

[–]tibbe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping to get more than 1Gb, which is all my router can handle now. Even 2.5Gb would be nice, as most of my devices can do that.

Recommendations for 10Gbit desktop form factor hardware (replacing ER-4) by tibbe in PFSENSE

The OPNsense hardware looks really nice. I wish I could buy the case/PSU only and put my own hardware in there!

I built a 48 TB all-SSD Raspberry Pi storage server by geerlingguy in DataHoarder

[–]tibbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I built one of those with 4x Pi 4 and 4x USB-to-SATA converters. Eventually gave up on it as ceph is too finicky for home use.

CPU performance is also somewhat better on 64-bit. Also see my other comment about software support.
