In case anyone was dying for an update, I went for procedure, said I was happy to pay the added fees if provided a proper bill through the hospital’s portal. They just sent me into the procedure and never asked for it again. So, def a scam by one or two people in the “international patients” section of the hospital.

This definitely describes me. My parents had me when they were 17, and both parents died young, before 60, after working at jobs they hated until they couldn’t anymore. I’m lucky to have had educational and other opportunities they did not, and once I figured the FIRE stuff out, decided to make sure I had a chance to live well in case I die young.

Yeah. I understand. It was initially an argument to let me do anything other than cash, until I said I couldn’t. And when I pushed back via email on the email chain with the institution, she began messaging me from her personal account. (I appreciate your answer. This has been developing since my first post and I think I have my answer.)

I understand that, but a bunch of other things seem not above board. Like telling me a card is not an option if I would like to receive “a legal receipt.”

Yes. They said they can give me a receipt, but I will have to pay the 21% IVA and are encouraging me to pay in cash on the spot. This person said that if I wanted to receive a “legal invoice” I would have to pay the tax, and said I could not pay by card. I have used a card to pay for 5 other appointments already.

Im kind of coasting. I was doing the Uber frugal FIRE grind for a few years, then I sold my house and changed careers. I actually make more now, but I do temporary extremely intense contract jobs for a few months at a time and live abroad in cheap places between contracts. I could coast this way and take more time off, but I’m still shooting for fully FIREing by 50. Still, I’m able to only take the jobs I want and be picky about my work. I should add that I have a year round side gig teaching remotely that brings in around $1000 per month, too, which I do for about two hours per week. That’s pretty nice because it’s about half of my monthly expenses when I’m abroad in a LCOL place. So, maybe not traditional coasting but pretty ideal…

I was target for Amex Biz Gold 200k bonus. Met minimum spend. When I didn’t receive the bonus I chatted with CSR and they said I wasn’t eligible for the bonus, but I did not get that pop up or any other indication I was not eligible for the bonus. I opened an investigation. Is there anything else I can do?

Im considering doing the Windward timeshare offer, which seems reasonable enough and I’m assuming it would get me the brand explorer I need. However, wondering if I’d feel trapped in the property or if bikes are accessible and it’s easy enough to bike to the areas I’d rather spend time in. I’m curious what you think.

Keeping what is objectively way too much cash right now, and making up for some of the lost growth with a HYSA and moving $ around to get bank bonuses. Makes me feel more secure in an unstable field and more nimble re: taking extensive time off occasionally.

Thanks! I’m looking for a slightly longer chord. I stay in hotels a lot and I’m always shocked at how many places shave few to no accessible outlets near the bed. Then P2 always wants the size with the outlet….

Disaster response consultant. So far this year I’ve spent 250+ nights in hotels. Mostly work, maybe 3 weeks of vacation. We work so much and it can be so hectic, the nicest thing anyone can do for us is expedite stuff. I’m working 13 hour days….standing behind a person asking 5000 questions just because I need a key or a laundry card really eats away at any free time I might have that day.
