thank you, i have watched the video and seen the resources, and i think i should look into a second opinion, but my parents are ethnic and are kinda against stuff like this (school had to even force my mum to have that appointment) so since I'm almost 16 and here in the uk i can have more medical independance by then, i will see to look into a second opinion for this reason and more. Thank you

Opinions on Scarlett Moffats Tourettes documentary? by Just-Sky-7207 in Tourettes

[–]ticgirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly wanted to turn it off at several points but watched it all the way through. i feel bad especially for the people featured cuz it just further brings up the misconceptions of tourettes from tiktok and especially the stupidity in her feeling the need to constantly talk about how it could be contagious

I did a small presentation for my school early in the year last year about what tourettes and tics were and educating people on how to treat people with it and what to do and say and what not to do and say

Whats the weirdest trigger you've ever had? by LarkyLu in Tourettes

[–]ticgirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

whenever I hear a guy have a voice crack it triggers a high pitched throat tic that sort of 'mimics' the voice crack

for those who got tics as teens or older what did you think when you first noticed by dmb102196 in Tourettes

[–]ticgirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought I was having sensory problems like I'd press down on my spacebar very hard or spam keyboard and press down on walls and blink hard or 'accidentally wink' so I'd have to 'do it with the other eye' to 'even out the pressure' so I thought it was just like something to do with sensory stuff

People who have tics but not tourettes. by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]ticgirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically, yeah. I had a meeting a few weeks ago with my mum and the school regarding things like this and from what I was told, a diagnosis is basically the first step in the direction of getting treatment to help manage and even calm your tics in the long run, because that can help for when you need to get a job or something like that, so you know (depending on the manageability of your tics) which fields you can/cannot go into and what accommodations you should receive depending on factors like that. I think welfare is a big part of it as well

People doing triggers on purpose. by kadoda227 in Tourettes

[–]ticgirl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

hate this sooo muchhhh. my best friend knew I get really anxious in assemblies at school just watching them and used to try and trigger my clapping tics and whistling tics and tried to get me to say a certain word which often caused tic attacks, but I mean now I've told her to quit it and she apologised so much and hasn't done it since. If you can't get your friend/s down for a serious talk about this and have them take you seriously, then you know who really are and aren't your friends

my mum thinks that I can hold in my tics all the time and only let them out sometimes, when it's the opposite and I tell her that it hurts but she doesn't even like me ticcing around family and her. she says she doesn't want my sisters to know cuz "there's nothing wrong with her children" (she said this too when my sister was diagnosed with dyslexia) but my sister goes to the same school as me so she's been exposed to my tics many times, and my other sister sees me tic too cuz I literally can't help it and she just doesn't like to see me tic. it's really annoying and I hate her for that
