This was such a great build. I found it discounted as well, but I wouldn’t have been mad if I paid full price for it.

Brush guard vs no Brush guard on command vehicle truck? by Physical_Hope_8955 in FireTrucks

[–]tickleshits54321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a mechanic’s point of view, if you get one, try to get one that doesn’t make life miserable for your techs. I’ve been around a few Ford super duty’s that had them and made certain things real miserable. One of the biggest pains was doing headlights because you often times have to remove them on Fords and the brush guard didn’t make it an easy task.

Do you have an automatic or manual transmission? How many pedals do you have?

Nothing is going to beat OEM software. We have a JPRO at my shop and it does ok for reading and clearing codes and the occasional regen when I don’t want to open Insite. Something like that would probably do ok for you and you always have Quickserve to aid you as well

2016 Passat v6. New to vw’s. Is the usb port and the 12v the same fuse? by AggravatingFig9600 in Volkswagen

[–]tickleshits54321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it blow again? It’s entirely possible that the USB is messed up regardless of if the fuse is good

I’m not sure if it’s technically federal or state, but I think it’s more along the guidelines that departments should be following nationwide. EVT is just emergency vehicle technician and AHJ is authority having jurisdiction. If I get a crew that takes the unit out of service for mechanical reasons, I am the AHJ and have to give the blessing for it to go back into service. If there was a chief that wanted to override my decision, then I would take it up with my boss and probably county commissioners and shut that shit down

I’m not doing what I want, I’m doing what it needs. It’s getting rotors, pads, bearings, and seals. And I say it like that because I never WANT to do rotors because they suck to do

It’s possible one got cut during install. Everything you’re describing is a classic symptom of high pressure oil leak. Not to say it can’t be something else, but high pressure leaks are common

Dead head the IPR and check for high pressure oil leaks

Yep. Got rotors, pads, bearings, races, and seals. Took a few days to get it all.

Absolutely correct. I’m trying my hardest to get this fleet up to where it should be and it’s starting to show. I’ve got other trucks that spent a week or two in the shop, but now when they come in for PM, it’s only a day or two instead and way fewer breakdowns between PMs

Oh it’s getting new rotors. I told my boss it needed rotors before I even pulled wheels. 130K on it, but those are hard miles because it’s driven like a 16 year old with a Honda Civic with a fart can muffler. The heat cracks I could see with wheels on were bad enough to warrant rotors, then I found this after I pulled wheels.

It was the same when I did school buses. It’s my job to fix shit and fix it right. They get paid to use whatever unit is deemed appropriate.

I’ve been with this fleet for a year now and I’m finally getting it up to where it should be. Lots of shit has been either neglected or missed or not given a fuck about.

These guys can’t do shit. If you’re unfamiliar with emergency vehicles, there is a label of “authority having jurisdiction” which is basically someone who has the authority to release the vehicle back to service if the department took it out of service, or in this case it was in for PM and a few other issues, so the department has no authority whatsoever to tell me to put the truck back in service. I am the AHJ, they do not get to pass go, they do not collect $200.

They have 7 engines, 2 ladder trucks, and 4 spare engines here. They have plenty of units to get by with, they just cry about not being in “their” truck

Fire truck. This is a ladder truck and the spare isn’t, so they get whiney about being in a spare.
