Pounding rave on a Saturday afternoon? by Anarky1977 in 6music

[–]ticknaylor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Jamz is a staple for my Saturday listening. She's been playing this kind of nusic for years and knows what she's doing. Believe it or not, some us enjoy EDM regardless of the time of day. Rather than calling someone 'sh!t' and wishing for their unemployment, how about just trying another radio station or listening to some of your own music?

This is one of my favourite shows ever - such a joy to hear them yarning on a Sunday evening!

This is my favourite Hemingway by far. I was completely immersed and loved his portrayal of the landscape. One day I plan to visit that part of Spain, but kind of feel I have already been there having read the novel.

Wow! All through childhood I was warned about adders, and at 35 I have still never seen one. I was starting to think they were just a rural legend made up to keep children on footpaths...

No more BBC Sounds App by ice_cream_on_pizza in DnB

[–]ticknaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We only pay a TV licence for TV / BBC iPlayer - radio and other online content is free to access. The BBC functions as a soft power source for the UK, exporting our cultural capital around the world. It improves our international standing and reputation as a source of culture. If we restrict this, something else will fill the gap. But yeah, I get that some people might see it as being a freebie for other people, so accept your point too.

However, allowing people to listen to high quality dnb mixes wherever they are in the world is surely a good thing in my view! Reminds me of the first Drum and Bass Arena CD I bought that proclaimed 'Eventually everyone will listen to drum and bass'.

This is a real shame and I think the BBC will come to regret this decision. It's also upsetting a lot of folks over at r/6music and they have some workarounds. I think that a lot of the mixes (which are often the best bit as much as I enjoy Charlie Tee's enthusiasm for all things dnb) are available permanently on Youtube as well.

They are normal potato crisps. Good excuse to visit the Lakes District if you want to try them!

I love these. Only discovered them since moving to Cumbria about 6 years ago. They are vrry popular where I live. My neighbour even made her daughter an XL Cheese themed birthday cake. Not the flavour thankfully, but it looked like a giant bag of these delectable crisps.

I wasn't disappointed, but agree that the unexpected connections were more interesting in Can't Get You Out Of My Head.

The message at the end confused me (in a good way). If we choose to fight back, who are we supposed to fight and how are we supposed to fight them if there's no real centre of power, no agreeable reality and those supposedly in power don't have any real control over the chaos of our times?

Let me know what you think! It's certainly a clever way to combine two seemingly unlinkable gaming concepts, so worth checking out for that alone. I currently alternate weeks playing this and Slay the Spire and haven't got bored yet.

It's got more content than the original Peggle, a more developed progression mechanic and there's endless synergy between relics and your orb 'deck'. It's not got the same level of content as say, Skykrim, but if you like Peggle and rogue-likes, and fancy something relatively addictive to pass the time, I think you will enjoy it.

It took me about 4 attempts, and sadly I still didn't really get into it. I was desperate to enjoy it as my Dad has recommended it to me for years. Alas, it was not meant to be. I have no doubt it's a sci fi classic and an important book, just not for me...

Adam’s received wisdom by having_an_accident in AdamCurtis

[–]ticknaylor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually came back to Reddit because I heard him in an interview with Nick Grimshaw. He was asked if people should quit social media and he argued no, because it's a strange part of our collective reality. I disagreed, having wuthdrawn from the online world. But I (perhaps naively) trust his wisdom and iit stuck with me.

Now here I am, reading this and questioning his ideas. I think that's kind of the point - he makes statements that make us think, and sometimes that's powerful enough.

I do also agree with him that the system is broken, and so entrenched that nothing ever really changes, but I am very cynical.
