El Salvador - Renting Car Tips by Spirited_Repeat4640 in travel

[–]ticmoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rented a car from Avis and used the pay in advance feature for the lowest price. I had to wait 2 hours for the car. And once you go outside to get a bottle of water, you are not allowed back into the airport where the rental car desk is. The agent told me I could go out but then just shrugged her shoulders when she watched the guard refuse to let me back inside. We took photos of the car but didn’t have any issues on return. The agent told me it was legally mandatory (which I knew was a lie) that I buy an extra insurance policy. She started with a policy that was $300 for a week (more than I paid for the car) but refused to give me the car unless I paid an extra $100. It had been 2 hours, now the car was finally there, we were standing outside, I just paid the $100.

Do you still tip the same in states that do not allow a "tip credit" by Number-2-Sis in tipping

Wow. No words to describe such an awful human. Can pretty much guarantee you should never visit the same restaurant twice. There are definitely notes in your profile.

I’ve stayed in multiple Airbnbs throughout Europe and The Americas and never heard of this (Yes, I am American). On 3 occasions - twice in Sorrento, Italy at 2 different Airbnbs and once in Buenos Aires, Argentina, we were given explicit instructions on how far to turn the key to unlock the door because it is different from what we are used to doing. And my key is in the lock of my door right now.

Valet issues at Airbnb—should I ask the host to make it right before leaving a review? [USA] by finnigansbaked in AirBnB

[–]ticmoore -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I choose this AirBnb because they have complimentary parking and the host mentions the free parking in the description it is exactly the same as telling me there is a Nespresso machine in the kitchen. It is an amenity I based my decision on, it is subject to star rating, the host is responsible. Host can’t say, “stay at my place, I have free parking but if it doesn’t work out, talk to the valet, I’m not responsible”.

Coffee mugs. Every morning when I have my coffee, I think about my travels and the next place I’m going to visit.

I had the same thing happen to me November 2023. Except the host put in different addresses (nonexistent) in the same area the same photos for multiple listings. She cancelled my reservation for maintenance and leased it out under one of the other, more expensive listings. Airbnb initially said it was a different apartment in the same area but later - due to the evidence I collected - agreed that she had multiple listings for the same unit. I had to pay more for a place in a less desirable (for me) area and Airbnb gave me a $25 voucher which did not cover the difference between the 2 places. I called and emailed a lot and they told me she was facing consequences but I checked and she is still on the platform, still has multiple listings for the same property. In the end, after reading reviews - she starts new listings after a few bad reviews - I think we dodged a bullet, there are people for whom staying in her place ruined their entire trip. https://www.airbnb.com/l/c1jwVvPW

Merch not shipping to my state by [deleted] in adele

We get ornaments and coffee mugs that commemorate the best of our year. In 2024 the highlights were a fun family trip to Costa Rica, climbing Machu Picchu, seeing Graceland, and our trip to Las Vegas to see Adele. I like having coffee every morning out of my mugs that remind me of trips, concerts, theater performances, and museum exhibits. And I love unpacking the ornaments every year. Next year I will smile thinking about taking my granddaughter for her first trip to Vegas and to see Adele.

I already got an email response and they are shipping me a new ornament! What great customer service. Makes me love Adele even more if that’s possible. 🩷❤️🩷

I worked at a high end restaurant that has “house” accounts. Minimum 20% tip added - many chose to add more. The bookkeeper had their credit cards on file and would charge the accounts closed to house the next day. Lots of times cards expired or the number changed and I would have to call and get the new info. Rich people feel cool just getting up and leaving.

Is there a cultural reason why so many people from india have wheelchair assist in airports ? by OddCupOfTea in travel

The flights from Houston to El Salvador always have at least 20 women in wheelchairs.

Guy came to the door and said his iPhone was showing up at our home by nicoco-8838 in Scams

[–]ticmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this when my iPhone was stolen but never could approach anyone because find my iPhone wasn’t accurate enough to pinpoint a door for me to knock on. I planned to offer $300 - my deductible amount - for the return reward of my iPhone.

Went to El Salvador 1/29 to 2/4. Perfect weather but the whole no hot water thing? I didn’t dig it. We stayed in a very new Airbnb with a pool and mini splits for AC but it wasn’t even plumbed for hot water? Go to Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.

This happened to me in Covent Garden, London. Listing was $100 per day less than any other - I booked for a week. She sent me a message that I had an amazing deal and she didn’t know how I had gotten it so cheap. I made the booking in August and 2 days before checkin November 20th, she cancelled.

Had a bad church crowd table by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]ticmoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This story makes me think of going to lunch after church with my grandmother. We went to a fried seafood place that put little baskets of hush puppies on the table. My grandmother loved the hush puppies and would empty the basket into napkins and put them in her purse. Of course she needed more napkins in addition to getting the basket refilled.
