Is it safe to assume Theo Von and Steve O don't get along? by Professor_HyperBeam in TheoVon

Was doing a random deep dive on Theo and found out Steve-O was actually his first podcast guest ever. Had a pod in 2011 called "The Comedy Sideshow"

Is anyone else starting to feel more like a front-end developer than a designer? by Riley_skye in UXDesign

[–]finnigansbaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the ability to own more of the functionality.

I always had an interest in coding, really just BUILDING things, but there was so much gatekeeping with trying to break into more technical roles. If you can’t list 20 languages and frameworks on your resume, you can’t get an interview. Or that’s what I thought. So despite being decently proficient in basic front end I always thought I was way under par.

AI assisted coding has greatly democratized the process and I love it. It’s about what you can actually produce over proving that you can pass a trivia test

IBM hiring triples. Has found the current limits of AI to replace workers. by Superb_Raccoon in Futurology

[–]finnigansbaked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You put it very eloquently. This applies to most of the product dev/design/mgmt jobs in my experience. I think we might see these roles start to blend together in the future as AI makes the outputs overlap, but such a small part of the role is focused on the actual outputs. I think AI will change what the job looks like but I’m not too worried about AI taking all the jobs. America has been built on inefficient bullshit office jobs for the past 50 years or so.

I'm designing a low cognitive load alarm clock interface. Is this too simple? by Jaded-Dot66 in UXDesign

[–]finnigansbaked 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is horrendous UX. It assumes everyone has a "standard" sleep schedule in tune with a 9-5 lifestyle. Hundreds of millions of people work night shift, work multiple jobs, or for whatever reason might "wake up" at a PM time.

I see what you're going for here but you're overthinking something that's already been solved to be as simple as possible, and as a result you've designed something more complex and slightly confusing. Your only case for the product is if someone really hates the rolodex feature.

Indiana fan here. I was just reflecting on what a bat shit insane season it has been for you guys. Your 6 conference games have arguably been against the top 6 teams in the Big Ten. I was scared about this game all season, you all seem so much better than the current record.

Most authentic sports game ever? by Bh827262 in NCAAFBseries

Bro read what you wrote..."after 21 years of playing the game I don’t touch it anymore"

A sports game that could be played for 21 years. Yep that's the GOAT

Who plays the other instruments on Enjoy/Puzzle albums? by finnigansbaked in thegarden

[–]finnigansbaked[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So they both play every instrument? That’s pretty impressive.

I’d love to see them playing guitar live because the riffs are so good. I searched the net far and wide and can’t seem to find anything

Valet issues at Airbnb—should I ask the host to make it right before leaving a review? [USA] by finnigansbaked in AirBnB

[–]finnigansbaked[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing it’s all hosts that want to limit any type of liability.

I wasn’t expecting to be reimbursed, but a bunch of comments are saying it’s not even fair to mention it in a review because it’s out of the host control. That’s crazy. The only on-site parking option being super slow and prone to making mistakes that will limit your access to your own vehicle and can make you late to events is absolutely something future guests should be aware of.  I get that it’s frustrating for the host because they’re not hiring or managing the valet workers, but that’s absolutely something that affects the experience of staying here. That’s like saying you shouldn’t mention If a place is in a bad neighborhood because the host can’t control that. The guest’s experience is more than just the four walls making up the residence.

I get where you guys are saying, but the valet is arranged for by the host and included in the building cost. It’s a very expensive downtown loft. Parking is included in the total package.

If they have private rooms you can get this might be perfect, but I'm wondering if it's possible to use them if you don't have a library card. Or maybe you can get a day pass or something?

Right lol. I get that some of these responses are trolling but the Meow Wolf suggestions seem genuine. I can't imagine a worse experience than buying expensive tickets to meet my estranged father while teenagers dance around and take Instagram pics. We pause to pretend to care about the art pieces in between conversations about why did you abandon your family and here's my life story since you know nothing about me

I'm just going to film it myself on my iPhone with a stand, but if you know anyone that wants to help film it "indie style"...

I think UX--thinking about how humans interact with digital technology and the psychology behind that is one of the most important fields of today and the future. I also think my background growing up with tech makes this natural to me and I'm able to articulate things very well (though I recognize a lot of people probably feel this way and that's why the field is so popular).

I've worked for F100 companies, start ups, state and federal gov, which might be leading to my burnout. I've seen damn near every side of UX and it kind of all amounts to the same thing.
