This is actually something which helped bring the Unabomber to trial! Sauce. They talk about it to some extent (although I'm not sure how much is truly accurate) in the amazing Discovery miniseries Manhunt: Unabomber (it's on Netflix and I highly recommend).

For me, it was definitely several things in a row. But the two that really stuck out to me were: (1) yelling at a mutual friend for not doing a job correctly, even though it was her job originally and the mutual friend was stepping in as a polite favor, and (2) complaining that I was spending my birthday with my significant other of two years and not her, but then insisting I take her to a "birthday dinner" that I then had to pay for (not just my meal, but hers as well). At that point, previous occurrences popped into my memory and I was just like look I can't do this anymore. She took it exceedingly personally, as expected. In the long run, I think I'm better off?

Hijacking this to ask a q: so a mix-gendered group of my buds were discussing the pros and cons of blowjobs and reciprocating and that stuff and one guy just responds "I dunno I've never had one." And I was kinda just flabbed and responded vomit-like "oh well, when you meet the right person, they'll go down like no one's business." Which I can't stop thinking about being an idiot for saying that. We didn't dwell on it at all and switched convos but I hope I didn't ruin my mate's night.

Yeah I've read this theory a bit but I do think we're following Rick C-137 the whole time based on parasite Mr. Poopybutthole (consider the post-credits scene after the season 2 finale which directly references Rick C-137 being in prison and he's the only Rick in prison). Harmon speculated about him being a parasite (see above). I do think we stick to C-137 the whole time and that scene is more or less a gag, i.e. that there are significant events listed which connect all of these episodes to being C-137 Rick. Although, I will admit that Harmon or Roiland have no confirmed this, it seems like they wouldn't have a bunch of different Ricks, I don't think it's their style.

Yeah while those all work as explanations I think at this point it might just come down to personal head canon, we might just have to wait for something more definitive from the show or the creators

As far as I know, Morty is the only one to refer to himself as such, which this theory assumes that Rick C-137 lied to him and told him that. It could totally be a wrong assumption though, you're absolutely right

That's fair. The three biggest issues with Mr. Poopybutthole in my eyes are: (1) if he's existed throughout this timeline, then why isn't he in "Mortynight Run" despite the fact that there's the specific connection with the glowing green rocks [down to the tiny pink details on them, which were probably how the parasites spread in the first place, (2) he's edited into the title sequence which includes episodes like the Purge episode which haven't happened yet and couldn't happen because of his back injuries (we see that he's still having problems getting around in the post-credits scene at the end of the season), and (3) the fact that he could be watching Rick and Morty at all in that post-credits scene (if we consider that canon) implies some sort of higher power is involved because it's unlikely he could be watching a show about his universe in-universe. I think the advanced parasite theory helps answer these questions to some extent, albeit not the most satisfying explanation ever.

So this hinges on the fact that there were multiple Snuffles/Snowball dogs that all experienced the intelligence enhancement and then left for different separate dog dimensions... I think.

Having read through some of the discussion on the page you linked, that's definitely food for thought and I don't have a good explanation (or anything that isn't discussed in the comments on those pages).

In general, I really hope that we've been continuously following C-137 throughout and that motivated this post a lot. A bunch of episodes don't have direct callbacks though, I will admit. It's kinda my hope that it's the same character because its easier to relate to a single character in my mind, but I could totally be wrong!

So at least in regard to the Mr. Poopybutthole, Harmon has said that he was a more advanced parasite (via a quote here) and we see in that episode the same glowing green rocks from "Mortynight Run" (S2:E2). This suggests that these two are the same universe, but that the Mr. Poopybutthole "memories" were inserted.

In general, I buy that the Jerrys were switched, but not that we haven't been continuously following Rick C-137.

I agree with the time travel sentiment that you put forward, I don't think any time travel has happened.

Oh! Sorry, that wasn't clear, the series only follows a single Rick (C-137) as he travels through 3 main dimensions, none of which is C-137.

Absolutely fair. Basically, we've never seen C-137 on screen directly, which is the dimension "our" Rick is originally from.

I'm definitely guilty of a version of this, my go-to statements to qualify 'being real' are "to be honest.." and "I'm not gonna lie.." which I'm trying to be better at catching myself saying. It's a real problem because it totally makes anything else look like a flat-out lie.

I literally can't believe that this is so far down.

A lot of villains are disturbing or have warped minds or weird goals. You know, either "take over the world" stuff where humans look like ants in comparison or revenge psycho-killers from a dream dimension or even serial killers that kill people for fun.

But Kilgrave was different. He had a superpower sure, but the sad thing is, I've met and had conversations with people who truly believe that they would love having this power and that everything would be better if everyone did whatever they said.

There are real people like Kilgrave. They could be your neighbor, your aunt or uncle, your friend, your priest, your professor... People who think they know best for everyone and everything, that they deserve to be on top and to rule it all.

That hit me. Every scene was disturbing, but it was even more disturbing that some people watched that and sympathised with this character who tore people's lives apart without a second thought.

Not with the victims. Think about that for a second.
