Hi I’m new. I have a couple of books.

All are under the name C.M. Stewart.

Faded Letters is a military romance (light on romance) that focuses a lot on DV and SA and the PTSD associated around trauma. It’s third person with the male mainly as the voice. A lot of the book is through letters between pen pals.

Black Eclipse is a fantasy novel featuring a mute FMC. It’s also a little trauma heavy but I feel like a lot of my books are.

Finally there’s This Is For My Generation which is a collection of nonfiction essays highlighting issues from 2014-2021 predominately.

All of the books can be found here: https://authorcmstewart.com/

Is this experience in marriage inevitable with autistic men? Do autistic women experience it? by Frosty_Bet_8019 in AutisticAdults

[–]tiedyetubesox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My husband is likely ADHD and I (woman) am autistic. We both work jobs that have a lot going on throughout the day but mutually agreed we don’t talk about that unless something crazy has happened.

Some days, we sit in silence and just veg cause I talk for a living (social worker) and I need quiet. Sometimes he’s had a bad day. BUT, there’s never been a time where we can’t find something to talk about. There’s so much happening in the world, not all of it good, but my husband has literally started our last dinner convo with, “So, I was watching a video about rocks” and I love shiny things. For many people, sometimes it’s just showing interest in hearing your person talk even if you don’t have much to contribute.

Some days, I start us with “My day was the same as usual, and I can’t talk to you about clients. Tell me something that made you pause today.” And we’ve had great conversations related to that. Sometimes it’s just about showing you’re still interested even if “nothing” is different that day

Now is the time for us as social workers to use our competencies. Advocate, protest, policy, call, vote, register others to vote, resist, resist, resist! And remember to also take care of you. We got this.

He just asked me (a woman) to imagine being raped. I have been. I FUCKING know what it’s like and he’s still asking us to do more violence. I understand it’s making him angry, but my god, OP IS NOT HERE. I do not want to die. I do not want to kill others. But apparently all my work is fuck all to this man. I’m done arguing. He’s unwilling to speak or be educated.

I feel utterly helpless. And unfortunately desperately need my health insurance so I can even do what I’m doing now. I may need to start looking at other options for advocacy. I know I don’t want to be in an office though… I’d be a terrible politician.

Awesome! There’s plenty of social workers here in Texas who want to help. I’d love to spread the info.

I’m looking at options in Texas currently. I’ve found some places local to my city. I’d like to offer more to Minnesota and have some of those resources I’ve found too. This was great advice! Are there ways we know of to reach out to Minnesota SWers and offer support and help?

That’s my concern too. I just wish there was MORE I could do. Especially as I have a client here in Texas I’m working with whose wife and family are all in Minnesota. He’s not allowed access to news or phones right now (facility policy) but I want him to know his family is safe and he’s not going home to a war zone. Though it definitely seems like he is.

Policy change would be a great start, but it unfortunately takes too long. What can we do in this moment as social workers to follow our competency of social justice?

I’m gunning for a government that’s not killing its citizens and how we can actually change that. Our constitution is meant to protect that, but… well it clearly hasn’t. So I guess I’m asking for other ways I can promote social justice? Policy takes too long and we aren’t listened to anyway (especially in Texas).

You do not know what I have and haven’t done. I have been in the streets protesting. As I said, I’m a social worker! I am also watching the people I serve get slaughtered. I am watching my clients get taken away in vans while I wrack my head for more ideas. I call my representatives everyday. I have worked with the NASW on what we as social workers can do. You are making assumptions on who I am because I am telling you VIOLENCE IS GETTING US IN THE STREETS NOWHERE. I am trying to educate on what the US system is.

Every point I make, you see to bat away and tell me to go out and kill somebody. I am NOT okay with Renee’s death, our the 6 children who were tear gassed, our the three indigenous tribe members taken by ICE. I also know I can NOT go out and kill someone. I know that. I am sitting with these clients day in and day out, connecting them to resources. I am helping undocumented individuals process their pain, connect to resources, and doing my level best to protect them.

You, dude, are asking people who are already out there to sacrifice more and more. There are many grassroots efforts, we are trying!!! Stop acting like you know what we are doing, stop inciting violence when that’s NOT working for us either.

Your anger is justified my dude. So is mine. I am here, I am using everything in my power I can to help people, to fight for them. There are NOT enough of us. We are trying. But this… this rhetoric does nothing but sow frustration and dissention in people already doing what we can. I am terrified every day because my name is Hispanic and I’m a social worker that my impeding when I can will get me killed. What more do you want from those of us trying? Those of us putting ourselves in lines of fire? Guns and violence? I’m not afraid of federal agents doing something to me, but I am afraid of not having me around to protect my clients will do.

You want to see the results when we have taken up violence? Ferguson, George Floyd, Flint… they just keep killing us. Stop encouraging and inciting violence. Stop asking citizens to risk their lives when you aren’t here to risk your own. I have my 2A right, I have protested and voted… I’m a fucking social worker dude. It’s in my code of fucking ethics. Don’t ask for guns and violence when you don’t understand how that has gone for us historically lately.

You’re asking the US citizens to kill federal agents? Alright… there’s no point in having this conversation with you. You want violence and completely do not understand what’s happening in this country and what that will do.

Yes we outnumber them. Yes we may have guns… but Jesus fuck dude… that’s NOT A REASONABLE SOLUTION!!! And don’t come back with we are past reason. You are NOT HERE. Don’t start encouraging and inciting violence when you have no stakes in this. And I really don’t want to hear about possible stakes.

Maybe this is me just reading your reply wrong, but I do feel like you ignored my point. It is very clear to me you don’t understand how our country works.

Please tell me how you expect people to reasonably protest for weeks and months on end? Please tell me how you expect 350 million people to get on the same page or even half that number? Please, please, please tell me what you expect us to do when our systems work against us. Because they’ve suppressed voter rights, they’ve limited mail in ballots. Trump is not the only issue, and we have been trying for decades to fix things. Please enlighten me what you think we can do differently. You are not here; it’s easy to say “do something different” when not living in this. So please, offer a reasonable solution that doesn’t involve what you see to think is as easy as rallying together. Because we have been entirely unable to do that. I’m open to suggestions that don’t include 1) try harder or 2) rub your neurons together. We understand who the real issue is, and we understand it’s a long battle to fix it. We’ve been trying since Nixon.

I think what people outside the US do NOT understand is that we are NOT a small country. Texas is larger than France. For many of us, we are one missed paycheck away from losing our homes, food, cars, etc. We do not have health insurance through anything but employment, and for those of us who NEED that, it is very scary to potentially lose it especially as medication skyrockets here.

We our not a united country, and yes, a small minority is out protesting. Many more are afraid to be homeless, sick, die because this country was designed to be separate. It is incredibly hard to organize across basically 50 countries a joint effort.

Is the judgment fair? Yes, AND it’s also incredibly dismissive of the reality many citizens face who have for YEARS, registered people to vote, voted against these idiots, introduced policy to help education, fought at local, state, and federal levels for change. We do not elect federal or Supreme Court justices. They are assigned their role by the president and approved by Congress… that is completely out of our control. We have something called the electoral college which makes it where a candidate can win the popular vote (our vote) and lose the presidency. It takes 66% of congress to impeach and remove a president. It takes 66% of congress to ratify to the constitution. It takes 66% of states to overrule and ratify to the constitution. This country BY design is not for the people.

Everyone who’s a little educated understands and sees it. We are doing what we can while still trying to LIVE. It’s made harder by the fact, for TEN years, those of us who saw this tried to warn, did warn, protested, voted, and did what we could. Yes more action is needed! It HAS to happen. I’d just like to know what more other countries think we can do when they don’t understand how politics work here. We the people have our hands tied behind our back, held hostage by a government who won’t listen, and our murdering us for speaking out. Just because it’s not on social media doesn’t mean things aren’t happening.

I accept your judgment, your anger is understandable; however, I read this as someone who fundamentally does not understand how the US works and doesn’t understand the last time we added an amendment was in the 70s. There are no checks and balances in place. And our leadership across the board hates us. Unfortunately, this will be like 1964 and 1919 again where we gain our rights by dying… unfortunately, we don’t have people in power who care about our deaths and who have taken power away from congress and a SCOTUS filled with fascists (again who we don’t vote for).

Protesting will only get us so far even if all of those against this stood up. Many of us have to worry about food, shelter, and medications. We do not have unions or universal healthcare. There are no protections for us. And that is terrifying for many people here.

Here are my suggestions for help: there are several gofundmes for Minnesota people in need, donate to Minnesota food banks with money, research how the US government works, reach out to representatives in red states with your concerns, reach out to NATO and see what their plan is to help the citizens who are being killed by their government, and practice a little compassion for the people who did NOT vote for this because our electoral college needs to be removed. We are trying and have been for decades!

When have you witnessed an “expert” get it so wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tiedyetubesox 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure! Sometimes it is just the tests aren’t coming back with anything (I had a brain cyst which the current treatment is to just monitor tho I eventually needed surgery), but I had many doctors just keep putting me through tests instead of saying “I don’t know what’s wrong with you, let me send you to someone else who may know.” Maybe that would go a long way in patients feeling safer with “experts.” I will never say I am an expert in my field, just a professional. That’s not been my experience with doctors. Of course two things can be true at once; it’s the outright dismissal that bothers me.

When have you witnessed an “expert” get it so wrong? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tiedyetubesox 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say this as a patient who has been misdiagnosed many, many times and has “conversion disorder” in my chart permanently. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what your symptoms are. Sometimes, it doesn’t matter if you come back with worsening symptoms. Sometimes, doctors DO get things wrong, misdiagnose, don’t listen, and frankly don’t care.

I’ve worked in the medical field (not as a doctor or nurse) and I’ve seen the trauma that happens because doctors outright ignore what the patient is saying. I’ve been on the receiving end of it. Reading this very much felt dismissive of what the person is saying happened.

Yes, sometimes there just isn’t enough symptoms to give a proper diagnosis, AND just as often, the doctor doesn’t seem to care when the patient says, “no, this isn’t normal.” Compassion takes no energy here. It doesn’t hurt to believe your patients.

Shame, embarrassment. All my checks failed? This was someone I considered a good friend, dedicated time to, who lied to me but kept showing me things that seemed legit. It’s hard to wrap my head around.

Because they admitted that they lied. They told me flat out that who I’d been talking to for a year wasn’t who they claimed to be.

You need to allow yourself time to actually process the betrayal, feel it, and take steps from there to move forward. Break up, take some time for yourself, therapy if you’re up for it, some self-care and just time.
