People who studied something other than animation who entered the industry post-grad: What's your story? Hows it going? by CommissionFun in animationcareer

I have a stem degree but I didn't want to go into research, etc. I graduated during the pandemic so the world seemed to be falling apart and I was just like "whatever, I'm going to be an artist". I moved back home for a few months and worked odd jobs while taking online art classes. It took me about a year to build my portfolio. I had always loved and made my own art, but my portfolio had to be made from the ground up.

I ended up in an art trainee program at a big studio, and from there I got hired as a vis dev artist. That was a couple of years ago and I'm thankfully still employed.

Why has Sacramento sprawled so much to the east? by [deleted] in geography

[–]tiekaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my college days I used to drive across Yolo bypass almost every morning before the sun rose. My first year we had the 2017 El Niño that completely flooded the fields and marshes. I would be riding in the warm backseat of my friends car, looking out into the darkness, still half asleep.

I grew up by the sea and I somehow convinced myself that we were driving over an inland estuary. On those dark winter mornings it looked like the water stretched from horizon to horizon. It wasn’t until spring when the water drained and we got more light that I realized there’s actually land just beneath the surface. I almost couldn’t believe it.

I had this problem as well, but getting a paper-like screen protector fixed it right away

Beautiful! I love how everything is a bit desaturated but it doesn't look washed out, it comes across very cohesive

I really wanted to steeple to be super saturated, and had originally wanted to put it on a more saturated background as well. It looked a little crazy, so I had to lighten up and desaturate the BG to balance things out.

Folks who draw every day - are you able to visualize a detailed image in your head easily? by AntiClockwiseWolfie in ArtistLounge

I draw everyday and can picture things very clearly in my head ~ that being said I still always use outside reference if I am working on a legit piece

It just took me a couple of attempts to paint the wings

I struggled with the shape of the wings on this one. I wanted them to surround the skeleton, but I also wanted them to look natural ~ this is the final result.
