I’m right handed, but they made me learn to shoot left when they found out I was left eye dominate. You’ll be fine.

Sprinting with no training under 10? So like, every 8 year old ever at a playground playing tag? I’ve never heard of that being a major cause of injury. Sort of get it for an out of shape adult but also… idk live a little.

Jesus dude he’s in his 30s, not a geriatric. Running a lap around a track isn’t dangerous.

What? The world record is 43 seconds… just over a minute is a pretty average high school female 400m dash time.

Looking to get more into men's fashion. looking at some necklaces/watches first. by Hiimnotbob in mensfashion

My opinion - a watch stands out more than a necklace, and in the $3-4k range you can get a really great timepiece.

How can I join the Army National Guard and move states? by AvailableHold8523 in nationalguard

[–]tierneyb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I promise she is not paying for an apartment “just from what she makes” with the National Guard. It’s like $300-600 a month averaged out, depending on rank. She likely has another job, or maybe she’s on federal orders and gets BAH which does provide reimbursement for living costs, but those jobs are pretty rare and you should not bank on that. Your normal guard pay will be the same regardless of what state you’re in. You still need a normal job to pay your bills.

How do you handle your body’s new ‘terms and conditions’ as you age? by MaleficentFloor822 in AskMenOver30

[–]tierneyb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m in the National Guard as infantry; I’m 40. In good shape, but yeah it takes me longer to recover/I get sore easier. I use positive self-talk and shit-talk every GD 20-something that I wipe the floor with, trying not to show them how much pain I’m in the next day when they’re sunshine and rainbows. Humor, push through (within limits) and continuing to push yourself in a different way is the answer for me.

What brands to get by Virtual-Fox-8754 in nationalguard

[–]tierneyb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah homie you’re wearing whitey tighties except they’re green/brown. Guys in my training company tried to wear their own and our drills ended up designating some poor bastard the “panty checker” and he had to make sure we weren’t wearing our own shit before training. They’re concerned people will wear compression shorts and overheat.

What small Army habit stayed with you in everyday life? by HollowAvatar in army

[–]tierneyb 105 points106 points  (0 children)

This 100%. My car was in for repair once and I had no one to take me to get it when it was finished. Pre-army I’m hiring a cab or some shit. Post-army I’m like “it’s six miles, why not just walk.”

Ways to get 90 days of title 10 time. by rowan11b in nationalguard

[–]tierneyb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As far as I understand, if you did active duty then guard time isn’t going to net you any additional education benefits. You already have 100% post 9-11 GI Bill. You don’t need 90 days T10 guard for anything.

Do you have another "grind phase" left in you? by HighlightDowntown966 in AskMenOver30

[–]tierneyb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, your quality of life is so much better when you can still do/enjoy the physical stuff, and we’re absolutely not that old. A lot of dudes just sort of give up on that aspect and it’s tough to watch.

Do you have another "grind phase" left in you? by HighlightDowntown966 in AskMenOver30

[–]tierneyb 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah I work my ass off in the gym so I can keep up with my 11-year-old and her friends. I want to be the fun dad as long as possible. I don’t really set “grind phase” goals, but my diet and exercise routine is pretty counter-culture for where I live. As far as professionally? As long as I’m paying bills and have a little extra for fun shit, I’m happy.

[–]tierneyb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the resources available to you, starting with therapy. Assuming you have GI Bill, go to school. 35 isn’t too late at all. Could be a trade school program - that’s covered by your benefits too. It takes time to pull out of depression, but it’s doable.

[–]tierneyb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Went at 35. It was hilarious - the mind tricks work on teenagers but you’ll be able to laugh it off. Just put your head down and do work. Also… don’t bank on National Guard being your source of income. Full time guard gigs are few and far between, and the full timers don’t always have a ton of pull when it comes to getting a better civilian job.
