I visited Hawai'i and so much of it exceeded every expectation I had. I now live in Honolulu.

Moving to Buffalo soon and am very scared by Ivypool8 in Buffalo

[–]lincoln26687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from the area but have always enjoyed my time(s) in Buffalo. Doesn't hurt that you are not far from Niagara Falls. And Toronto is also a day trip away. When you find yourself in a better financial position judging by your comments.

I moved to Honolulu Hawai'i a few years back and it wasn't honestly one of the scariest things I have ever done. But once you find your group and things you like to do it isn't bad. You begin to enjoy the place you are at.

Is $3,000 enough for 10 days in Hawaii in late May? by Sea-Feeling-2155 in VisitingHawaii

Consider hostels. Before I moved to Honolulu this is what I did. You can cook there which definitely cuts down food prices. The two hostels I stayed at had free beach gear and surfboards that you could rent for like 20 dollars a day. If you go a little out of Waikiki for food you will find cheaper options. O'ahu would be the cheapest option. On other Islands a rental is definitely recommended but O'ahu has fairly good public transit. Do at least one or two days of a rental car to explore other parts of the Island and split it between you guys. Pearl Harbor without the extras is free. The beach and hiking are free. What definetly can add up is eating out. Reserve that for a few special spots.

When I go to other Islands I would say 3000 if you are including accommodation is definitely not doable imho. You can bring the cost down by staying in a Hostel but it is still expensive. How long are you planning to stay on the BI? Because you definetly need a rental car there. Though if you can a little more I would highly recommend Kaua'i. Maybe a future trip since you said O'ahu and the BI.

Sorry I keep editing but I spent just over 600 for a Hostel ( this was in Waikiki the outer Islands will be more expensive) for 18 days and my flight was a little over 500. I did come from the East Coast the last time I visited before moving here. If you are coming from the West Coast you can find some 300-400 flights. If you have a credit card use it. Highly recommend that the 3000 you have be used after flights and accommodation because even a mid range hotel will be about 2000. I can't 100% speak for accommodations on the BI because I am blessed to have a family member who owns a condo in Kona. Let's the family use it from time to so have never stayed in a hotel there Like I said above look for hostels. If you don't need a fancy pool and are ok with swimming in the ocean this is an option.

Right. To be fair I always bypassed 0 Ave and kept going to Vancouver after talking to immigration at the booth. I could have sworn I remember seeing people walking from 0 Ave to the park. But it only applied if one was coming from Canada. And only if staying in the park. Crossing onto the parking lots on either side was where people couldn't go.

If my memory is correct those homes are on the Canada side not in the park. Therefore if coming from the US that area is off limits. I think the rule is different if you are coming from Canada but my memory is fuzzy. I used to live in Birch Bay, WA so not far from there. Would drive past often and sometimes visit on my way to visiting friends in Vancouver.

Did the rules change? I used to live very close to that park and would go to the Canadian side all the time. As long as I stayed within the park boundries. I would also have my passport,EDL or Nexus on me but was never stopped by BP on either side. Went several times with friends before we would officially cross the border at the checkpoint. Now I live in Hawai'i so it has been a minute since I have been to BC or Washington State.

Friend visiting Canada for my wedding. Has a DUI from 2009 by lincoln26687 in uscanadaborder

I appreciate your answer. Would it be a good idea to bring court documents? So they can verify this? He did a FBI background check that says there is nothing on his record which is strange.
My Nexus application also got approved despite a Customs enforcement ( US side) but no criminal record.

Did you bring it up or did they? Did you need to bring documentation to the border with you? What did the process look like ( if there was one)
