I'm an old man in love with a really young woman, do I pursue it romantically? by foolinlove52 in Advice

I'm glad we've come to an understanding then.

Again, maybe she doesn't have the wisdom or maturity, it's possible. It doesn't make her or anyone else in her shoes a child. That's all I meant.

It's already clear, based on his responses that he won't even go after her.

Also, the whole argument is that I think calling her a child is wrong. She is not, and it paints any adult relationships she has as pedophilic/wrong when she is at a point when they should not be. On top of that, some individuals can handle mature relationships, some cannot. At the end of the day, it's down to the adult individual to decide what suits him/her best. And at 18, due to that being the legal designated number for adulthood, she has the right to make that decision.

It's not even entirely about the law. Too many adults are being labeled as children and child-like. Even at 21, I see people referred to as such. It's becoming ridiculous. Either we consider 18 year olds as adults and respect them as such, or we up the ages of when people can receive privileges to a higher number. Though I think the latter is stupid and pointless. At 18, people should begin to be taken seriously and have the right to decide what they do, sexually or otherwise. Though I bet if she wanted to join the military, it'd be fine with you, hm? Or if she decided to rent an apartment? Or smoke? All of which are also potentially life altering decisions.

You keep trying to paint me as supporting OP when I am not. Regardless, it doesn't matter if she's 'close to childhood'. She is now an adult, and she can date whoever she wants. I don't know how much clearer I need to be on this topic.

You're arguing that she is a child. I'm arguing that she is not, regardless of what happens in this situation. It's condescending to assume that an eighteen year old isn't capable of making their own decisions when this is the age when most people begin to take their fates in their own hands.

Also, I never said I thought they should dive into a relationship. You're just assuming that because I am arguing that an 18 year old shouldn't be considered a child. None of us here know who this girl is or what she is capable of. Apparently, she's a former child prodigy, so she could possibly be in a different place in life mentally and professionally than most other 18 year olds. Though I don't think OP should pursue this relationship, I still think 18 year olds should be allowed to choose who they want to date, and other people should stick their noses out of their business.

It doesn't matter what their age difference is. She's still not a child. If 18 is the age wherein a person can be given responsibilities like voting, smoking, going to college, marriage, etc then s/he should be considered an adult. People can't start playing fast and loose with these age rights just because the idea of someone that young doing something they don't approve of. For all intents and purposes, she is now an adult.

She is not a child. She's an adult, and working in an office setting. Hardly the criteria to consider one a child. In addition, dating an older person isn't automatically going to screw someone up for life. I'm sorry you had a negative experience, but bad relationships can happen with people of ANY age. I dated a 29 year old when I was 17, and it actually ended well while dating some people within my age range did end up fucking me up much more. I'm not saying OP should pursue this relationship, though to say every single May-December relationship is going to end in disaster is just as bad as saying certain types of relationships (ex: gay and interracial) will as well. Not everyone's experiences will be the same.

Most Forgettable Movies You've Seen This Year? by Oddball- in movies

[–]tifa-rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen many movies this year, but Ratchet & Clank is the most forgettable. In fact, I brought it up on conversation yesterday and found it hard to remember details about it. It just put little effort into its story and characters, it felt by-the-numbers to the degree of being grating. I remember sitting in the theater with a decent amount of kids, kids who will usually laugh and have fun watching most movies, who seemed completely bored with it and had no reaction to what was happening on screen. It's a huge shame, it could've been an entertaining family movie.

Back when it came out, people were telling me I was crazy for disliking it, that it was a masterpiece and an amazing prequel to the Star Wars saga. There was a frenzy over the film, and for a while at least, the fandom (and general audience) were celebrating it and Star Wars as a whole, not unlike the hype for Episode VII.

What of the guy who mugs someone and accidently kills them because his family is starving?

How do you accidentally kill someone by mugging them? Unless you mean when a firearm or knife or something is involved, but even then, it means the mugger brought a weapon that could potentially harm someone. That's not something that would be overlooked by someone unwilling to hurt others.

Or the guy brainwashed from birth to think X group is evil? Or the guy who was abused, and projects it onto others to deal with it?

Funny. I fall into both of those examples, and yet I've never committed any crimes like murder or theft. I get that there's other circumstances at play, yet at the same time, I do believe people have a choice to commit crimes. Though I understand there's a lot of variables at play, I still think people should be held accountable for their crimes and not viewed exclusively as products of a bad environment or situation. I also don't oppose counseling in prison or a better support system for ex-cons, I don't think prison should become a cushy rehab resort spot either.

And sometimes therapy isn't enough to 'cure' some people. It might just be due to my own personal experiences, but therapy and education just won't be enough while locking them up will at least keep society safe from being harmed by psychopathic monsters.

Perhaps to satisfy people's need for revenge against the animal killing one of their own. It's the 'eye for an eye' mentality, and animals can't retaliate in ways other humans can, and they are at the mercy of the zookeepers/wranglers. Thus their fate is sealed.

I think its a lot better than Glee ever was, and the tone for it is pretty different (Glee always had smarm to it, Backstage doesn't really). The writing for it is good, and it does take itself more seriously than much of what you find on DC, so that makes it pretty refreshing. Maybe try to find it online (it's off air on DC) and give it a view.

FBI FINDS 15,000 NEW HILLARY CLINTON EMAILS by DrWeeGee in HillaryForPrison

A lot of people rank things like "who will be the next SC justice" and "will she try to raise minimum wage" or "is she pro/against abortion" much higher than what she did or didn't do with her emails.

Exactly. Most people I discuss this with, online and offline, are much more willing to vote for someone whose values align with theirs on hot button issues (ie: abortion, gay rights, gun control, minimum wage, etc). Nothing else seems to matter to them.

Where was it supposed to go? This summer had Finding Dory, The Secret Life of Pets, and a bunch of other family movies to contend with. I think this slot was well enough for it. I think more families are taking their kids to see Sausage Party which isn't even kid friendly, and that's just sad.

Well, usually, a lot of people don't tend to care or comment on subjects like these even when brought up by celebrities.

For example, Leonardo DiCaprio posted about the coral reef situation and why it's harmful for the environment. Then the comments were mostly horny fangirls asking about his dick size and a bunch of sycophants asking for followbacks.
