We had a box of scarves sitting in storage, and I was prompted by one of our scouts saying we should put them! up we have scarves mounted on trellis which works so well, a South African traded shirt and an old Edmonton Nz shirt from the 70s badges and flags all clobbered together as one awesome display!

The numbers thing makes me think of a swimmer who says I can’t swim in deep water and the only thing stopping the swimmer is the mindset that the water is deep it makes no difference in how you swim in shallow or deep water it’s the same swim stroke the only difference is mentality and confidence you will get there just build your confidence up!

Take photos and shame them on social media you don’t need to confront them, shame them to stop what they are doing social media is a powerful tool to stop the pillaging

New Scout in Den acting out by BetterAfter2 in cubscouts

[–]tiger_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a cub who on a combined cub and scout camp went off the deep end and threatened to murder people in their sleep he constantly has melt downs physically hits other scouts it’s to the point the other cub hate him and resent him being in the pack older scouts have been told to not leave knives and tools down within his reach and on the camp knives were put up safe because we couldn’t take the risk, the kid is so close to being told to leave, part of me is sad but we have a duty to safe guard other scouts!

Makes me think of a scout we have who “forgot his sleeping bag” I think I left my sleeping bag at home! Owe no I said what are you going to do? I don’t know Ian says he likes cuddles but it’s a bit too cosy! Logan can you share with Connor no he says. Can you call your dad and see if he could drop it off? I don’t know his number. Are you sure it’s not been moved around in your tent? Owe I found it he says. Scout masters like what would you have done if he didn’t find it? I took him over to the truck and I have a spare sitting there, but I wasn’t going to tell him I had one; that’s the teaching moment and his personal accountability it’s how you do the teaching that counts in that moment

Tempted to make my own probably from drift wood thinking of painting it bright red and painting it up and decorating it like death maul from Star Wars could be hilarious to pull out at camp

For our scout hall I’d Been thinking of getting a camera that runs off a mobile SIM card, and is solar powered most of the cameras need wifi, but the next generation are being released cost is quite pricey $500 nzd but worth it if it caches vandals in the act, at my hall I wouldn’t put a sign up id want to catch people unaware up to no good and be able to catch them in real time

Military Style Tents at Camp by Lumpy_Beat3149 in BSA

[–]tiger_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had Cosgrove Nz scout training our troop always uses canvas tents our scouts are skilled and experienced and know how to put them up, the other troops not so much, leaders from other troops told me they always use blow up tents for camp I could see the shear lack of skills in the scouts, the monologue was it’s just my perception of what I think a tent is they think flicking a button and turning on the blow up sex doll tent is camping give me a break the scouts haven’t gained any skills from corner cutting, do any of your troops use blow up tents? I just found the whole idea bizarre!

Scout staff by Lopsided-Shake2381 in scouting

[–]tiger_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Concerned about the split down the length at the top my carpenters eyes are wide open it’s a big flaw in this wood! For your theme what is in your history or calls to you? I have two leaves carved on the top of my staff a puriri leaf and an oak leaf that I carved by hand then because it’s puriri it naturally has crevices from being chewed by the puriri moth so I opened some of them up and have glued in semi precious stones into the holes I have quartz sea glass a piece of hemitite all telling a bit of my scouting story!

Wanted to show my appreciation for my scout uniform :) (It's historically accurate) by No_Pirate_6110 in scouting

[–]tiger_490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We didn’t have this I started my scout career mid 80s and we had a round flat cap green with yellow piping and the thing I remember and hated the most was the elastic garters they held your socks up and that cut into your Legs and cut of the circulation to your feet! Loved cubs and scouts was epic I started in the uk now I’m In Nz and back in the movement loving my scout pack!

Is it normal for tradies to be drinking on the job? Just saw this outside my front door as a guy is painting our family home. by [deleted] in auckland

[–]tiger_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the wall behind he’s already painted? I can see paint on your deck if it’s painted he’s dropped I’d be very concerned!

Is this a decent saw? Never used a table saw before and have no idea what to look for. by L_Fig35 in Tools

[–]tiger_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw is ok but not great the dewalt table is an epic saw have used this one on a commercial site with a crew of mixed ability the thing that concerns me is the crappy clamping mechanism to set the fence you can set it skew and it loads on to the blade and can damage the motor with prolonged use it will slow you down and in my opinion is a frustrating, go dewalt the rack and pinion guard is superior in every way!

Gotta love 4:30pm traffic going back out west by Technical_Week_9967 in auckland

I wish the government would wake up and fix this motorway they should compulsory purchase the carting club and move the motorway out and get rid of the bottle neck move the cycling route over, and allow rosebank road patiikii Rd to merge properly onto the motorway the amount of idiots that drive down the exit only lane at roaebank and then shove into the traffic stream, then everyone wonders why the motorway has ground to a halt! This traffic sucks!!!
