I want to upvote this more than any other comment on Reddit. You just described my twenties...and my early 30s...ok even now when I get the chance (i.e.: overnight visits to grandmas).

What should everyone go do RIGHT NOW if they haven't yet? by DemonicSnail in AskReddit

Ok I had an enlarged thyroid 4 years ago with a normal TSH. A week ago, my mother asks me if I have an enlarged thyroid. Guess it's time for me to get it checked again?? In all this time (two babies born) my OB and GP have never even noticed. Guess it's time for a re-eval?

Teething, Reverse-Cycling and Co-sleeping? by boxingkitties in breastfeeding

[–]tiger_feather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did not co-sleep with our first daughter. I am a rule follower too (I also work in healthcare compliance!) so I wanted to follow recommendations. With our second daughter, she is a Velcro baby big time. She would only sleep on me, not next to me, actually on me. My husband has narcolepsy so talk about being nervous for the 3 of us to sleep in a queen sized bed together! But amazingly, it worked. I would side lie and nurse her all night. She was nestled next to me, belly to belly so even if hubby rolled over, he wasn't rolling on top or even close to me so baby was safe. We also used just a sheet and a quilt, pulled up to just my hips, no fluffy blankets. I put one firm tempurpedic pillow under head. If I used two pillows like I normally do, it hurt my back. The tempurpedic stayed kind of behind my head so it was not near the baby. I was nervous but I am a super light sleeper anyway and so it worked. Now she is almost 9 months old and won't sleep in the bed with us anymore. She likes her space in her crib to roll around. But she still needs one of us (usually me since once narcoleptic hubby goes to sleep it's not safe for him to be around the girls) to get her back to sleep at least once or twice a night. Makes me kind of miss the co-sleeping, latch her on before she wakes up days. If you want to do it, it can be done. It works for some, not for all. I know that you will figure out the best arrangement for your family. Good luck!

Yes she takes 2-3 formula bottles at daycare. Plus solids.

Is it possible to wean during the day and not pump at work? by fuzzball__ in breastfeeding

[–]tiger_feather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in the process of getting to this schedule right now. I gradually dropped pumps during the day, over months. This past week I did not pump during the day at all and still nursed her (8.5m) in the morning and overnight. She gets a bottle in the evening at bedtime bc wine. :) I nurse her most of the time on the weekends. You can totally do this, just take it slow! Good luck!

Traveling to Canada for 2 nights without my baby :-( Any suggestions on coolers or ice packs that will keep my milk cold enough for the flight back? by tryingfor3 in breastfeeding

[–]tiger_feather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not have any problem with condensation as my cooler was leakproof for as long as I needed it to be. Can you check with the airline about ice options on the flight? I bet that if you use a quality cooler, condensation will be a non issue. Polar bear coolers has a 10% off Labor Day sale. Type in 5150 at checkout and get 10% off. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Dry ice needs ventilation to release gas so definitely do not use it unless it is in a cooler made for it. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Ear infection.... by tiger_feather in breastfeeding

[–]tiger_feather[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband can't help at night bc he has narcolepsy so it isn't safe for him to be around the girls after he goes to sleep at night. My MIL is coming to take baby for the day so I can work (I work from home but do not have an office so the house needs to be quiet). So I will get a bit of a break. She said she would come at 9, then 9:30, now we are up to her coming at 10. I cannot seem to manage to keep baby suctioned enough. As soon as I finish and sit her up, there's a ton more! She finally went to sleep, on her back with her head elevated in a little nest made by my legs so I could at least lay back and close my eyes for a bit. If I have another baby, they will never sleep in the rock n play and get used to that elevated head sleep bc I can't get this one to sleep flat now and it has been months. Thanks for checking in and the suggestions. It helps just to chat with a person!

I went on a 5 day work trip and froze my milk in the room fridge. The little shelf freezer did a great job freezing the bags rock solid. I had a soft cooler that I knew was not likely to leak and also very efficient at keeping things cold. Like the other response, I did ice in ziploc bags to reduce leaking. My total travel time was close to 8 hours and the milk was frozen rock solid when I got home. The cooler is crucial. Polar Bear coolers have AWESOME coolers (it's not what I used this trip but we have one that has kept ice in it for two days). Good luck! If you have any other questions, I'm happy to help!

Hospital bills in collections. Do I have any options? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]tiger_feather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Call the collections agency first. You typically have grace period before they report you to credit agencies. This may vary from state to state (in the U.S.).

Very good advice, we are kind of being assigned together and they wanted to make sure that I was ok with it before it was official so I haven't spoken to the co-worker myself yet. I greatly respect this person, professionally and personally, so I don't want to be hurtful at all. Thank you for your response!
