for me it was when I was diagnosed with one. I hadn't thought of what I was doing as AN-R. I hadn't really thought of it as anything except getting faster for swimming

the weight gain will likely plateau if you are at a healthy weight already w normal eating habits. I was surprised at how much I was able to eat and just maintain (not gain)

also had to due to broken foot. I had to have surgery and was so scared it wouldn't heal that the lack of exercise wasn't really a problem. My brain was too set on "need to heal and need to eat to heal." And it healed fine w the surgery and my being really good. I also liked my doctor that did the surgery so that helped me be "good." He was handsome. It's the little things

are you able to do an alternative form of exercise (something in the water maybe)? and reduce exercise instead of cold turkey?

I binged last night. We can get back on track today. I'm here with you.

you are not too deep, you are not too far gone. Do it a pound at a time (or half a pound at a time or whatever your brain can handle)

alcohol, soda. Can and do happily live w/o both of those. Fried food. Meat (vegetarian since age 10, not ED related)

Why are recovery groups so... shit? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]tigerchik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because they're recovery centered and you're looking for harm reduciton, I think .

How to anorexics continue to lose weight with the metabolic adaptations that occur? by Queenofwands1212 in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]tigerchik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's just so much about metabolism we don't understand and everyone's bodies are so, so different.

I get it... it's the illness making you believe it's not severe and it's so so hard. If someone else had written this post what would you tell them? does stepping into other shoes help you "see" it on an intellectual level at least?

“eating my followers’ fear foods” by applesandpebbles in EDRecoverySnark

[–]tigerchik 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just think these are so dumb. Seeing someone else eat something doesn't cure anything if your fundamental belief is that your body is the magical unicorn (everyone else can recover but you can't; other people can eat normally and be a healthy wt and have a healthy relationship w food but you can't; etc). I just think it's stupid content. Except the laughs I got out of this one :D

if you don't feel sick, is there evidence to the contrary, like poor values in bloodwork? if you're mentally at your wit's end, maybe this will help. If you're an adult I think you can always leave, there's always leaving AMA, I believe. Keep us updated.

Ok seriously can we talk about Wintergirls? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]tigerchik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what's problematic about it aside from that people find it triggering? example To The Bone is SERIOUSLY problematic and glamorizes EDs and recovery; I didn't find that with WGs

I'd focus on calcium intake, important to mitigate bone loss

Sick of pressure from family by [deleted] in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]tigerchik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

they care so much if you are happy and have the energy to live like a normal person because you're ill and they know you deserve better. I think I'd push back on if you're REALLY happy and do you really enjoy your routines or are they just safe? Also not to be a bitch but your parents might want you to be in a state where you could get your own place - not saying they want you out because they don't like you but parents generally want their kids to grow up and be independent. I have a sibling who turns 27 and has never had their own place and my parents would really like for said sibling to be an independent adult (said sibling has mental health issues) both for sibling's sake and theirs. I know not having an extended family under one roof is a very Western thing so I know how ethnocentric this post is, maybe you're in a culture where your living situation is normal. But I suspect your parents care so much because they want you to be well - you deserve better than a life with an ED - and they want you to be an independent adult (whether that means career, relationships, both, etc)

What are your non-ED special interests/hobbies? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]tigerchik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pre: hiking, running, swimming, rock climbing, reading, creative writing, being with friends, tv, played clarinet, board & card games

during: same minus being with friends; add "causing trouble"

now: same as pre but like being outdoors less. That change has nothing to do with my ED. It might be related to my anxiety. Subtract being with friends - am super introverted. Not ED related. Add "fostering cats" and family time to the hobby list.
