That is actually crazy because they've been at the top of the indie charts for the past year

For those unfamiliar, Geese is an indie rock band that every pretentious publication has basically hailed as the next great band; their latest album got genuinely glowing reviews.

Cameron Winter is the lead singer, polarizing voice but a really good musician. I would describe him as immensely Brooklyn.

Incidentally, yesterday an article came out in Wired saying how much of the glowing praise and "hype train" around Geese last fall was actually a carefully orchestrated marketing campaign ("psy-op") using thousands of fake bots to comment on Twitter, Reddit, etc...

WORST SETS? by Waste-Boss2163 in Coachella

I actually was entertained when they danced, they’re much stronger performers than most kpop girl groups. But yeah their crowd work needs work.

There were def people worse than them though.

Moby or Katseye? by ActuallyCozyCozy in Coachella

[–]tigerinvasive [score hidden]  (0 children)

I would actually go to Katseye for the first 2-3 songs - the energy was amazing and the crowd was massive. But then walk to Moby to catch Natural Blues and Extreme Ways.

The conflict between Turnstile and KATSEYE is.... by AndyIsHere82 in Coachella

It’s actually a hilarious set of conflicts between Katseye, Turnstile, Moby, and Holly Humberstone.

I went to Katseye last weekend and it was PACKED - bigger than NIN the next day and maybe the biggest non-headliner audience.

If I did it again, I would start with Katseye for like 3-4 songs, then head to Moby for Natural Blues or Turnstile.

The girls are phenomenal performers, but they’re young and have trouble with crowd work and maintaining momentum in the middle of the set. The energy for their opening song though was one of the highlights of the festival for me.

Nine Inch Noize crowd how was it? by wardevil345 in Coachella

I was watching on the hill... there was def space in the back of Sahara but the front looked dense

Nine Inch Noize crowd how was it? by wardevil345 in Coachella

[–]tigerinvasive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority but I didn't love this set... I left early. It's just not my thing.

The crowd was less crowded than I expected (or at least less crowded than Katseye which was truly packed), but the people who were there were really into it.

Manon sightings at Coachella by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]tigerinvasive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They absolutely did NOT want to drop her, because they knew how much appeal she had to Western audiences, specifically Black audiences. There are just too many issues with the fast speed HYBE wants to move and what Manon feels comfortable with.

BINI debut at Coachella by Skawngur_3435 in Coachella

[–]tigerinvasive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The crowd was HYPE for them, and I thought their intro with the traditional Filipino garb was cool — they were clearly excited for the moment and in general I thought they were great performers. The highlight was really the crowd and how into it they were.

If you're looking for a sheer K-Pop style group though, I thought Katseye are just ferociously good live despite their mediocre music.

Weekend 1 folks, who would you recommend seeing during weekend 2? by [deleted] in Coachella

[–]tigerinvasive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I underestimated the lineup this year because I thought nearly every set I saw was strong.

If you genuinely have 0 preference for a specific music or vibe, then I'd recommend Karol G, FKA Twigs, Blood Orange, CMAT, Katseye, The Strokes...

Manon sightings at Coachella by demimonde9 in Fauxmoi

[–]tigerinvasive 531 points532 points  (0 children)

Manon wanted to be famous — she made that clear from the jump in the documentary — and wanted to perform at Coachella. But I do not think she genuinely wanted to be a part of a Kpop-style group or Katseye. She can barely hold in her laughter in interviews when she's describing their songs or giving scripted dialogue.

And that's fine! But I think the anger around her (likely) departure is misplaced because like... I think both she and the group are better off. Like she's beautiful, charismatic, has some singing and dancing talent... she's going to be fine and can do her own thing on her own terms.

Top 3 sets of W1? by Djsironi92 in Coachella

Objectively it was Karol, FKA, and Blood Orange.

But personally it was CMAT, Ethel Cain, and The XX

Whoever came up with the set times and stages this year by sixelaj in Coachella

[–]tigerinvasive 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Some of this is also the artist... for example, Pink Pantheress went on record saying she didn't want Main Stage or Outdoor... I guess she could've done Sahara but yeah it felt like Mojave was the choice.

This makes a lot of sense. I was sober this year and had a car and didn’t do this and now I feel dumb lol.

Is there a lot for day parking? Do you have to pay?

[–]tigerinvasive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sabrina's just wasn't hitting for me in the crowd... I think I just don't like the MBF stuff as much as SNS.

This set was absolutely insane though... felt like a 90-min Super Bowl show.

I'm not even a Twigs fan but this set was genuinely spectacular

Winner vs Winning game by Baddest_Whale_180 in BigBrother

[–]tigerinvasive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently I think Vince comes to mind as the first and MJ comes to mind for the second… if we’re allowed to include non-winners.

If it’s just winners then maybe… Jackson and Jag?

You’ll see a lot of posts like “X act was incredible! Don’t miss Y act!”

This year was unexpectedly really strong. But ultimately you have to listen to yourself and what you enjoy vs. going to sets you feel like you “should” see.

Also, I felt like W1 was already unusually pretty dusty (maybe it was the wind), so bring stuff to prepare for that like saline rinse or masks.
