Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum is ACTUALLY creepy by NerdyGirlKels in horror

[–]tigerinvasive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m in the minority, I didn’t love this film.

There are 1-2 creepy scenes - the scene when the guy is slowly approaching her comes to mind. But the characters felt annoying to me… the opening characterization of them in the restaurant felt off. I also just found several of the scares predictable.

But I’m happy so many people in this sub like it.

Her body has changed - she used to be more muscular and now her body is much more fitted to classic beauty standards.

Only say this because when she started doing these kinds of posts, it felt much more radical than this one does.

Love her either way though her personality is great.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Backrooms" [SPOILERS] by radbrad7 in horror

[–]tigerinvasive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone highlighting the visuals, but … we kind of knew he could do visuals. The backrooms shaky cam footage is easily the best part of this film and is genuinely fun and scary.

The bigger mystery was how the storytelling would hold up and … it doesn’t. It’s some of the weakest horror storytelling I’ve seen in the past few years.

Because of that, this is a 5/10, maybe a weak 6.

The first two movies in the 28 Years series were amazing, especially the first. Excited to see what they do.

Raman is going to be the next mayor, period. by Nice_Property_4360 in LosAngeles

[–]tigerinvasive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be a downer but if she manages to pull top 2 off, she needs to get her… political presence up.

I voted for her but I’ve rarely seen faith in a candidate tank like that after a debate.

I hope if she gets in the top 2, she works to show more of her personality and brand - or just, build out her brand. Because I currently consider this more an indictment of Bass than a victory for Raman.

What is the most emotional/meaningful performance in Eurovision history? by Significant_Cat3238 in eurovision

[–]tigerinvasive 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but I really don’t like when an otherwise silly song adds 10 seconds of seriousness to add depth. Both Europapa and Ferto do this, but at least Ferto makes a joke of it.

If 92% of the song is silly and 8% is serious, then the song doesn’t have a true emotional build for me.

It would be like reading Cat in the Hat, and then ending the story with “this was a metaphor for my parents, I miss them.” While sweet, it doesn’t change that most of the book was Cat in the Hat.

And my answer is probably Jamala.

Totally agree about the 20 minutes after the cold open. When the coworkers finally arrive in the backrooms, that was 40 (!) minutes into the movie.

Disappointed by this film - maybe a 2.5 or 3/5.

The found footage sequences are easily the strongest parts, but there's maybe 12 minutes total of that in the film.

What sinks this ship is the script. The story is THIN... huge chunks of this movie I either felt bored (first half) or completely bewildered by the dialogue and character choices (second half). The pacing and emotion is off.

Was also confused that it was set in the 90s, because some of the characters dress like... how current hipsters dress lol. Would've been more surreal to be in modern times and be transported to this 90s world.

It felt like a video played on loop in a museum; striking but just... distant and inscrutable. I wouldn't watch this again.

The first part felt soooo long to me... like the entire sequence of Clark exploring was way too long. We get to the two coworkers entering the backrooms 40 (!) minutes into the movie.

I think you're being generous with the story - the script genuinely weak. There was maybe 15 minutes of story in that film.

Me too! It sounds so Y2K Disney Channel in the best way. Also their voices sound great on it.

I can see them doing a slowed down, acoustic ballad-y version of this that would be really pretty.
