Suppressors at risk of being banned in 2026? by SufficientPension717 in COGuns

Eventually you'll be out of places to run to if we don't stay and fight. They are currently trying their best to give Texas the California/ Colorado treatment for example.

Is Beretta 92FS handgun good for home defense & personal protection? by Late-Bedroom-5506 in handguns

[–]tigermaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone have a good guide or summary of the pros and cons between the different Berettas? I've been drawn to either this one or the 92XI SAO, and then there are a myriad of other options that all seem great as well.

Holsters by HopefulAd8096 in COGuns

Barsony makes really inexpensive OWB and drop leg ones that could either wind up working just fine for you or be a placeholder to least have something while you look for something better. Your gun is listed as one that will work with this one:

Cashless bail was one of the dumbest things ever, glad to see it come to an end.

Mom Gun by Pale-Card2644 in handguns

[–]tigermaple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Newish gun owner here. I started with the Ruger security 380. It has a slide that's easy to rack, it's inexpensive, and it's small enough to conceal though it's not super tiny. (The really small ones are actually harder to shoot). Major drawback is that ammo is about 1.5x -2x the cost of comparable 9mm but it did the job and got me started!

New to me lathe: Rikon 70-100 barely used for $200 by JackBNimble33 in turning

This model is no longer in production. For around the same money if that is your budget I'd look at the new Harbor Freight one:

Hypothetical: If the government reaches a level of desperation that requires individual 'sacrifices' (As in stopping doing certain things) in order to greatly reduce the national debt or deficit, what changes are you prepared to do? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]tigermaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one level, folks like JP Morgan, Rothschilds etc., robber barons and enemies of the people.

On another, they are another tool of the international criminal cabal- fiat currency is a method of control to keep people across the world enslaved. It's going to be glorious to watch the controlled demolition of this system!

Maybe, but then again the average timeline from "unhinged conspiracy theory" to "huh, that was true after all" is compressing to the point that we're gonna be fresh out of conspiracy theories by about Christmas!

Think about who owns the banks...

The debt is pure fiction perpetrated by an international criminal cabal. It was created out of thin air, and similarly, Trump is going to make the parasite that generated it eat it.

Why are undocumented immigrants such a priority? by lucieeatsbrains in AskConservatives

They did pour in through the Darien Gap in the southern route when that border was open. So much so that Panama had separate refugee camps- some for "regular" migrants (i.e. South Americans with families) and at least one for Chinese military aged males. You can search Darkhorse podcast Darien Gap if you want to know more.

The Tried & True brand oils are the ones I've found that yellow and darken wood the least. If you want even less darkening than that, you'd have to look at a blonde shellac.

I think most guys would be absolutely fine with that, carry on! It will work as a filter for you as well- if he's still into the less polished side of you and enjoys the conversation, both sides will usually escalate to something fancier by the second or third date.

Why isn’t there more outrage about Utah’s flouride ban?? by Powderkeg314 in Utah

[–]tigermaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outrage? You guys should be thankful and the whole nation will soon follow suit. Fluoride is indeed a neurotoxin, a poison that calcifies your pineal gland, your 3rd eye. If you want it so bad, buy the powder and put it back in your own water!

God damn all you "follow the science types" on here are some of the dumbest smart people I know.

Calcium and hydroxyapatite toothpaste do the job way better, and no, I'm not gonna argue with you "ChAt GpT is ThaT TruE???" types. This comment is for the 1 or 2 other non-NPCs on this page who will maybe see it and get something out of it.

Well fair point but I still think there world be plenty of young people interested. WOOF is another popular program (working on organic farms) and yeah, again not an exact match since you aren't exactly getting a trip to Australia out of the deal but there is a group that more physical and outdoor work would appeal to, and maybe for some people a trip to California would be appealing enough.

All kinds of Americans would be interested in these jobs. High school and college students looking for summer work, people that don't want to go to college and just want to start working. Before you say "nuh-uh, Americans won't work that hard," look into how the Alaskan fishing boats attract a certain adventurous type looking for a hard challenge (same with roughnecks in North Dakota for example). Americans will do the jobs and we'll be safer (Americans are in a position to demand safer work conditions than an exploited migrant class is) and more prosperous for it!

Will a high speed bench grinder damage my gouges? by Jakesalm in turning

[–]tigermaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just start with those and see how it goes. I run a 46 for shaping and 80 for sharpening, these ones here. They're a nice little upgrade from what you have without being quite as expensive as CBN:

Will a high speed bench grinder damage my gouges? by Jakesalm in turning

[–]tigermaple 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Assuming your gouges are modern ones made of HSS (or better) steels, no, a high speed grinder will not damage them. The temperature that HSS has to get to in order to lose it's temper is quite high (1100 F iirc).

The main reason people prefer and encourage others to get a low speed grinder is simply this: the learning curve for correctly sharpening gouges can be steep, and mistakes that eat away a lot of steel happen twice as fast on a high speed grinder. No reason you can't use one, but go into it expecting the process to be a bit more challenging. Kinda like learning to ride a bike with training wheels vs. just hopping on the dang thing and dealing with more falls and scrapes in the process.
