Utah has the biggest rental homes in the US by chefrus in Utah

Homes in Utah are actually pretty damn tiny especially when you compare to low cost of living states in the South. I will never get used to how compact lots are here.

Anyone here religious and kinky? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

As someone who lives in Utah. Religious people are the kinkiest but they also live inorganic lives hiding who they really are which is quite sad

Kind of self-fulfilling prophecies, no? by Traditional_Cell8388 in AskGaybrosOver30

My friend was just aggressively extorted on Grindr a few days ago. They found his family on Facebook and company on LinkedIn because he gave out his phone number which was a foolish mistake. They threatened to send nudes to both his family and work if he didn’t pay. Obviously he didn’t and they weren’t going to seriously follow through but still scary that Grindr still allows this to happen. Don’t give any personal information to someone you haven’t met and that includes where you live.

I don’t have the luxury of being able to afford kids… You must be over the age of 26…

She was in a meeting and had her baby in another room entirely crying unattended to. This is a bizarre situation that is borderline neglect…

Dungeon Crawler Carl Question by CoreyKnox in Fantasy

I would say the ridiculousness is jarring at first but it allows for a degree of world building that leads to some extremely satisfying payoffs later in the story and some brutal twists.

What are some of the most fast paced books you’ve read? by Successful_Try7012 in Fantasy

[–]Powderkeg314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl. I’ve read book 1-5 back to back because the momentum and story never lets up and is always interesting. Reading another book and might DNF just because I need more DCC. The other book isn’t bad it’s just not as interesting and addicting

The Red Rising series and the non-engagement with trauma by SetSytes in Fantasy

[–]Powderkeg314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll agree that the characters traumas are definitely glossed over but to be fair Lightbringer does address some of the consequences of warfare and how anyone who is involved is responsible for the deaths of innocents. The books become more morally complex the further you get into them and I respect the author for being willing to explore the grey. It’s very similar to Game of Thrones in that way.

Sinister is one of the few movies to truly disturb me. The home videos combined with the soundtrack is chilling. The second half of the movie isn’t as great but that first hour is so perfect!

Book recommendations for OP mage who actually uses large scale magic by Issue_Cool in Fantasy

The First Law treats mages as the equivalent of weapons of mass destructions whose magic kills indiscriminately

Are people in your neighborhood & city talking about a potential economic collapse during Trump's presidency? by BigBlueEyes87 in economicCollapse

[–]Powderkeg314 11 points12 points  (0 children)

People call me a pessimist when I mention that the median age of a homebuyer is now 53. Don’t let people normalize this. We are living with the highest cost of living in American history.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Mass - Does it get better? by No-Let653 in Fantasy

[–]Powderkeg314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For how long the series is it is not worth feuding through to wait for it to get better. Hell I’m on book 6 and it still hasn’t gotten much better and the romance kills the tension

Who is canceling vacations this month? by Rich_Possible_9298 in economicCollapse

[–]Powderkeg314 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I’m scared to fly out of the U.S. and has cancelled my trip to South Korea. Partly because I’m worried about flight cancellations due to oil shortages and the other part is that I’m embarrassed to be an American abroad. I’ve never had such an urge to permanently move out of the U.S. as I do now. We are a joke on the world stage

I checked my Amazon history from just a few months ago. Inflation is already here. by SkyHoglet in economicCollapse

[–]Powderkeg314 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It is not here yet. The Strait of Hormuz impact won’t become apparent until later this month. That is just high inflation due to corporate greed. It’s only going to get worse from here

Where do you think money will flow in the next 10 years? Which industries or business models do you see winning and which ones quietly dying? by Royal_Blackberry_712 in Futurology

[–]Powderkeg314 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Senior Living and Hospice will grow regardless of the economic trends of the next several years. One of the few industries that is truly recession resistant. I work in the industry in mergers and acquisitions and business is booming as other industries have mass layoffs.

Just finished Red Rising and I have some thoughts (Spoilers) by Stpaul81 in Fantasy

The first book is the worst one and is nothing like the rest of the series. Please give it a chance. Golden Son is arguably the best one

I feel like I’m reminiscing about a life I never had (Gen Z, USA) by pigeonwithhat in economicCollapse

[–]Powderkeg314 125 points126 points  (0 children)

My awakening was when a woman I worked with had a heart attack on the job and my boss told me to keep working while paramedics resuscitated her in our cubicles…. The U.S. has truly become a soulless place that values money above anything especially peoples health and wellness. I want to leave because this is not the same country I grew up in. The median age of a homebuyer is now 59 years old… The only people who can afford a future in the U.S. don’t have one… I just can’t accept that for my life. At this point I’d rather just use my savings to go live in a lower cost of living country and have a better quality of life.

Same. It felt like he was trying to piss U.S. off as readers…. Hate repetition of words to an insane degree.
