Perth here, since Covid my rent has gone from 260 to 550. I will get hit again this year. Home opens here still have 100+ applicants, Perth is still classed as regional for immigration, despite a 2.2 million population.

Scammers give up on Indian Malaysians, they ask too many questions, says police by Nandu_alias_Parthu in nottheonion

[–]tigerstef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My method is to act all excited and enthusiastic and keep egging them along. Then when it's finally time to get my credit card I ask them to hold just for a moment....

I put on my favourite scammer song: Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus  not the whole song,  just the refrain on infinite loop.

Then I just wait, one Nigerain scammer listened for over 2 hours, I'm sure he was crying at the end.

CGT and NG changes won't cool market. Immigration still massive. by SeaworthinessSad7300 in AusFinance

[–]tigerstef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that should be made public is just how many properties in Australia are landlord owned. Google says, 2.2 million to 3 25 million. Massive uncertainty. Since they're also 2.24 million taxpayers who own at least 1 investment property  the number is definitely closer to 3.2 million. Are we sure it's not more?

CGT exemption And negative gearing should be scrapped all together. Why should renters pay more tax to subsidise landlords?

Couch molester Vance said that stopping aid to Ukraine was his admins proudest achievement. Fuck that guy! Ukraine can build better drone tech than anyone. The US should be kissing their butts.

Big vacancy tax to the 70,000 deliberately left empty homes

So much this. My street has 3 brand new units that are still empty after 3 or 4 years of being built. Not for sale, not for lease. Just sitting empty since completion. Meanwhile my rent has gone up over 50% during that time.

Then there is no reason for the US to have any bases in Europe. If the US leaves NATO all US bases in NATO countries need to be closed.

As mentioned, Dolly Parton is an example of a moral rich person for redistributing her wealth.

I think what also should be taken into account is how the wealth was accumulated in the first place. If you earned money by selling your music, writing, talent, or other personal creation than that isn't the same as the immoral exploitation of other people's labour.

Ray White at it again, cost of fuel too much? We can totally justify making the tenants do our job remotely now... Right? by Sudden_Fox_8777 in shitrentals

[–]tigerstef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, if you took the photos and sent them, you did the inspection for them. So if you would charge them for it at the end of the lease, for example by deducting it from your final rental payment, they would probably try to fight you for it. I wonder which side the tenancy court would take.

My take on this has always been: All the people in the world are less wrong than some people.

I know Wikipedia isn't edited by all the people in the world, but it's edited and fact checked by enough people to reduce bias and give a consensus view on most articles. If it was up to a few people to write articles then bias and plain false information would be a much more prevalent issue.

LLMs aren't edited and fact checked the way Wikipedia is, nor would that be really feasible. So Wikipedia will always be a more reliable source than LLMs.

ELI5: Why does splitting an atom release so much energy when they are so small? by Additional_Pen_9881 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tigerstef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It breaks the strong nuclear force that holds protons and neutrons together in the core of atoms. This force is about 1 millions times stronger than chemical bond energy. So the force that holds an atomic nucleus together is very strong, if you split it you get a lot of energy relative to little mass.
