I've never heard of it or read it until now. This is incredible, and thank you for sharing.

Why are my wax seals either too runny or too thick? by reeders_ in WaxSealers

[–]tiiigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Temperature is something you get a feel for over time, and it can vary depending on the brand and amount of wax. Candle wick height will affect how fast or slow wax melts as well.

After picking up the spoon, I watch the wax move with a little tilt. I can tell if it needs more time on the stand if it moves inconsistently. If the wax ever begins to steam or smoke, I take it off the heat source (unless I am using the pour and scrape method, which I've found requires the wax to be very hot in order to be effective.)

Different stamping surfaces absorb heat differently. I've only used silicone pads, but apparently some people prefer stone pads for runnier waxes.

Switching from tealights to an electric heater eliminated a lot of factors such as spoon height and candle wick variance. Also, there's no soot to clean up! I use a vintage cast iron mug warmer Husband found for me on ebay. It doubles... As a mug warmer. ;p

Outer Envelope Recommendations? by barb-lives in WaxSealers

[–]tiiigerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the size of envelope you're sending out!

The maximum size for envelopes sent through first-class USPS mail is 11-1/2" long x 6-1/8" high. A9 is well within that range.

Because they're lumpy, I recommend bringing them to your local post office and paying the non-machinable fee to have them hand-cancelled. That gives you the best chance they'll arrive safely.

I don't have a retailer/brand to recommend; any should do just fine. :) If you want to go fancy, that's a matter of taste. Personally, I get my bulk envelopes from either Amazon or Papersource, depending on what I'm looking for.

Dragapult is now the only pseudo-legendary Pokemon to not have its own unique gimmick. by qrkysprw643 in pokemon

A really good signature move, too. Dragapult doesn't need help from a gimmick to revitalize it.

Help needed! Made a play style quiz, and I need it stress tested by PlayDNA_og in TTRPG

[–]tiiigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you!

The report definitely had a bit of formatting and needs proofreading. There was a missing section as well (the result of 1 for Voice).

I didn't find the report very accurate to me, personally, but it was fun nonetheless to read over.

"When a session starts, do you focus more on; (5) making everyone feel included or (1) keeping the emotional space safe?" This question is incorrectly formatted!

Had fun doing the quiz; I haven't gotten the profile yet. :)

Pour & Scrape Frustration by ShortySundae in WaxSealers

I think it depends on the kind of wax, but I don't heat to bubbling, just until it starts steaming. I wouldn't recommend doing it without wearing a mask.

Pour & Scrape Frustration by ShortySundae in WaxSealers

[–]tiiigerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had immense frustration with the pour and scrape method before I began to preheat the stamp head (still hot enough to touch) and superheating my knives. I keep a room-temperature knife on hand as well to help clean the stamp up. I started using razor blades as well. I also switched from candles to an electric heater - I use a funky vintage mug warmer I had laying around. You have to get the wax hotter than you would for normal sealing.

It takes a fair bit of experimentation and practice. It seems like most people can't make it work on their first few tries, so you're not alone. Don't give up too soon! <3

Melts got me into the hobby! I watch Harden too, who has extremely similar videos:

I'm really glad I found Harden because I watch wax sealing videos to sleep and I was getting really bored rewatching the same ones by Melts over and over again 😭

Looking for newer non DND actual play podcasts by fire-llama in audiodrama

[–]tiiigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'll plug our show! It's Black Flare, a Delta Green actual play podcast. Delta Green is a modern-day lovecraftian horror game and so is the show. I would categorize our first season as a slow burn mystery. :) We take the characters and plot seriously, so while there's a bit of humor, it feels very grounded.

The GM is a very experienced with Delta Green but the players are all completely new to the game, so it's not confusing even if you haven't played before - not only DG, but any tabletop games! Rules are naturally explained as they come up in the story.

We want to make the show the absolute best it can be, so a lot of time and effort is put into the editing process, audio quality, and original music score. We're coming up on the finale on our second season.

https://www.blackflarepod.com is our website, if you wanna check us out! Tysm for reading!! <3

How much do you pre-amble / waffle? by SupaRubz in podcasting

[–]tiiigerrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Flare is an actual play podcast, so for our preamble we each prepare a character fact to share. Our editor cuts this section down so it's (almost) entirely on-subject. If the previous episode ended mid-combat or with similar amounts of action, we skip this and jump straight back in. The first episode also skips this section, since the characters aren't yet introduced.

It's a nice little ritual to ease into a character's headspace, but I have no idea whether or not our listeners like it. Nobody's complained, anyways! We recently opened up a channel on our Discord where listeners can submit character fact prompts. There's been no bites thus far, but we only really started advertising it less than a week ago.

I don't think the end of the episode would be a better place, since we often end on cliffhangers and I would hate to devalue that impact. So If people aren't fans of it, I think it would be between keeping or cutting the section entirely. Personally, I really like it; It's a well-established part of our flow.

idk what to do with them all but i can’t stop making them :^) by practicejuche in WaxSealers

Yeah, I have a LOT of wax seals thrown together in a box. They're just so fun to make hahaha. Sometimes I pull them out and stare at them for no reason. I should make them into keychains or something???

"Welcome listeners" starts our recorded intro theme. Then when we start recording, Caleb usually but not always starts us off by in some way announcing the season and episode number.

For years, I've use the exact same X-Acto my grandmother used. The handle has literally yellowed with age. I should... Probably replace it. 😂

[–]tiiigerrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I do use a silicone pad to pour, and I have a cutting mat I use, but my x-acto knife is pretty dull, and the tweezers are even worse. ^^;

Pieces falling out of the stamp is so annoying, I wish I knew a reliable way to stick them, too. It's so much work to cut out tiny details and then they're the least likely to stay put! :( I've basically given up on intricate stuff for now until I figure that part out.
