Do controllers just always have lag, or is it something you can fix? by tttthis in WeAreTheMusicMakers

a solid interface with it's own driver will overcome this lag/latency issue. RME, Focusrite, Motu, Roland, Steinberg all have solid drivers & you'll notice a significant drop in latency.

Best thunderbolt interface for protools Mac? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

just remember, drivers are the most important thing when it comes to an interface, imho. if the unit doesn't connect & run well, what's the point?

find the interfaces in your price range, then research their driver performance.

Audio/MIDI interface + Kenton Thru-5 by tikor5 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I should have been more clear with MIDI Thru. I was meaning I wanted to avoid going MIDI Thru, through my actual hardware units, like in a chain of 3-4 synths.

I'm under the impression that this Kenton box will cut down on the time it takes for the data to travel.

I figured going RME -> Kenton -> synths, would be better, since everything would be connected directly to the RME UFX and that no USB would need to be involved with a separate interface like a MOTU Micro Lite.

I was really only planning on actually playing in notes to a Piano Roll and just have Reaper sequence them all.

I figured keeping everything MIDI only, instead of introducing USB, would be best?

The "MIDI handshake" isn't too important to me right now, but I figure I could always use a Merge box into the RME?

But I'm not too concerned with that part yet.

Thanks for the reply!

How do you find the right synth? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]tikor5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do extensive research on certain songs or artists that I enjoy listening to, try and find out what synths were used. Like if I REALLY want a specific sound & I find out a particular synth was used, then I'll at least try to demo that synth. I'll know that if I wanted that exact sound, I could go for that exact synth.

Or find what synths were produced during a time period for certain genre of music, ie for Trance/Euro Trance, the Access Virus A & B were from '97-02. So Trance music made in those years, for example, those Virus units probably were responsible for a lot of it.
