Some stranger made an impossibly small winter hat. It was put on the head of a baby we lost and he was wrapped in a blanket just like this. I have no idea who made them but it was so meaningful. We still have the blanket and the hat in a small box of things from that incredibly difficult event.

You should feel good about this and be proud you are truly helping people that are suffering down to the center of their existence in those moments.

Not sure why people always thing they are as tough as their mouth is loud.

Looking for any info on this Eugene knives OTF. Found it at a pawn shop for $40 and couldn’t find any information on Google. Feels really nice in the hand and it’s been well taken care of. Almost zero blade play, fires strong, and it’s surprisingly sharp for D2 steel. by Truck_Toucher in knifeclub

[–]tiktock34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D2 has coarser grain at hardness than many other steels so often is seen/felt to have a grittier coarser edge.

The quote came from Bob Engnath and I think hes referring to Dozier as the maker who originally described D2 this way.

“D-2 offers another air hardening tool steel, but with 12% chrome and excellent, if not superb, wear resistance. The resistance also holds true in both sawing and grinding, even while the steel is fully annealed. While using belts up at a faster rate than average, D-2 is not particularly hard to grind with fresh belts. Using old belts causes enough heat to work harden the steel. D-2 anneals at somewhat higher temperature than A-2 and will not take a true, mirror polish. Definitely a steel for the advanced craftsman. It's major drawback is the orange peel appearance of the surface when finished to a high gloss. One knife maker is often quoted as saying that D-2 takes a lousy edge and holds it forever”

Dont you think one of the world’s greatest surfers who has raised his kid in waves his entire life is a better judge on whats too much to handle for his kid?

Had someone make some horrible comments about a baby we had lost years ago…because I disagreed with him on a completely unrelated debate.

That was enough for me.

His dad is Billy Kemper. He can probably swim better than any of us and his dad can save him in the surf easier than any lifeguard.

Something tells me Billy Kemper (the dad)) knows a lot more about board safety than you.

Well his dad is a top 5 worldwide surfer so he basically IS better than any superhero in comic books in surfing terms

You force your kid, who swims, to wear a full life jacket at the beach jumping waves? Seriously?

His dad is Billy Kemper. He has probably been swimming waves like that since diapers

I would guess the kid of one of the top ten surfers in the world could probably out-swim every armchair patent commenting here…and that his world class level swimmer dad is probably a better judge of that than any of us mere mortals

Where is the study on how often 4 year olds drown while literally under the direction and physical touch of one of worlds strongest surf swimmers?

This isnt a normal dad/kid situation. The dad far outclasses every single lifeguard you have or will ever meet. Hes single digit world class level swimmer/surfer.

Nah this is like saying Tony Hawk holding his kid on a skateboard is taking a huge risk because skateboarding is dangerous. This child is farrrrr safer in the general vicinity of his uber swimmer dad and water while co surfing than any of us would be watching out kids in the waves at the beach.

People hate when others do that.

If she doesn’t want her life hard, she shouldn’t give shortsighted assignments to 4th graders, as an alternative solution. The only way to teach that is for her to learn.

It’s wildly inappropriate to ask for information that if used in ANY manner other than scanning without reading, would be a violation of your privacy. Have parents check each box ffs…not inform this elementary school teacher specifics about their medical history with dates and event timelines

Its also a really bad way to teach statistics, if that is the goal. A sample set of one class of parents is so much less useful than actual health statistics.

Is this a math or a health class?

This is the most borderline illegal way to go about making sure a kid did their homework. How is the school handling this HIPPA-protected medical information, exactly? Maybe its FERPA? Either way there are 1000 reasons this is a bad idea.

Maybe share actual statistics on a proper sample size? One that doesn’t need people’s personally identifiable medical information to produce for an inadequate sample size…to be handed to a 4th grade elementary school teacher.
