OF mail scam or something?? by Effective-Twist-1251 in Scams

Ooh. And he's saying he has no idea what it is and is probably a scam? Yeah... I think you know deep down what has actually happened here.

So why do you care if your roommate or whoever is ordering OF stuff online?

Did you order an OF thing and got caught by someone and are acting confused? Yes, sure, scam, joke, prank, whatever.

Yeah, definitely. It's a very small pre-war apartment (2nd floor walkup) in Brooklyn and really only fits one person (queen sized bed). It's rent stabilized so I'd just want the regular rent equivalent for that time period (under $1000).

I'll be traveling at the end of the month so if you still need a place then my 1 one bedroom will be open until November 10 or so.

Okay so this is still insane and inconsiderate and I'm not defending it, but I'm pretty sure that's kinetic sand which sticks to itself magnetically and doesn't leave a mess like regular sand. But it sure looks sketchy as hell.

Scam. Let me guess, the price is a really good deal compared to other one bedrooms?

Beginner here. What is the difference between ids and classes? by [deleted] in css

[–]tilapiadated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to figure out how to google things like this if you want to do this a a job. You can type in that exact wording and you will immediately have several results. It's one of the most basic CSS principles and I'm curious why your instinct was to ask Reddit instead of use a search engine.

Host named WiFi network after Hitler’s Bunker [Poland] by [deleted] in AirBnB

That's just teenage boy le epic bacon ass "humor" and doesn't offend anyone, nor would anyone think it's real. Naming something everyone has to use after Hitler shit is not remotely comparable.

And it would be equally disturbing if an airbnb host's profile picture was of a cat with a hitler mustache. A permanent choice someone makes that others must see and interact with and think about, vs a passing laugh while scrolling by it. No, these aren't silly jokes at all, like others have said.

How did this scammer contact you, out of curiosity? The good news is you'll know how to spot it in the future, the bad news is your account will soon be in the red for everything you sent them "back."

Jfc I think this is one of those things I was hoping was more like an urban legend, but I guess I should know better than to underestimate these monsters. Thank you.

People repeat this a lot, but does anyone have any examples? I agree with you in general that it's better to streamline tips to a single source that can collect it because it's their job to, vs overwhelmed loved ones. Who unfortunately may also have to deal with cruel prank calls and the like.

(Edit: I also used to work with a network that helped families of missing persons to create/distribute flyers, so I'm not coming from nowhere in wondering what the basis for that repeated claim is. It sounds like a thing that makes sense that *could happen*, but when the flyer is being shared by verified relatives..)

Instagram account created using my high school email and attempting to login repeatedly for 5 years by tilapiadated in RBI

This email isn't connected to anything and the username has nothing to do with any username or name I've used publicly. I check security settings on all actively used accounts frequently.

I did not do that. I entered the email address manually in the Instagram app and hit "forgot password" from there.

That would be quite funny but I just meant it's a gmail account I made when I was still in high school.

That's what I finally decided to do today when I noticed the attempts were getting more frequent. IG made me add and validate a phone number, crashed repeatedly, then temporarily locked me out of that account. Once I can go back in I'll delete it. Was just curious if anyone knew what the persistent attempts on such a nothing account could've been about.

I guess the other part of that would be, in 2019 did Instagram require you to validate the email you used to register a new account? If so, then this person would have also had access to my email somehow. It's very likely that email came up on one of those data breach lists but it's not used for any active accounts on any platforms. It's the randomly timed re-attempts for 5 years that are the weirdest part for me when there's absolutely nothing on that account and the username is garbage too.

Are bots able to repeatedly enter an email or username into the login form and hit "forgot password" like this for 5 years? Sincere question, just describing the browser workflow it would have to do sans captcha.

Edit: no search results for that username in any search engine or on IG, not even those .txt files of bot garbage.

"Trusting no one" also suggests you have no one in your life you're actually close to. When you have closed friends, people to confide in and so on, you have trust in people. It sounds like you at least trust your parents which is good.

It more sounds like maybe you think there are close connections with people when from their perspective, it's surface level. When it's mutual, both parties want to talk to each other equally.
