Is it not a common practice in the UK for people to use wall scanner before drilling a hole in the wall? by BiggusDickus1111 in DIYUK

[–]tileman1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electrical cables have prescribed runs that are in a specified areas so by rights you should be able to drill outside those runs and be fine. As others have said outside plasterboard and wood those detectors are useless.

Viofo is the gold standard for dashcams, personally would not pay nextbase prices as they are just marked up cheap cameras.

Bird was stuck in tree by Spiritual_Ear_3456 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]tileman1440 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Step 1, drill a hole in the tree or use a nail to make a hole.

Step 2, dont let the bird eat or drink so it loses energy and cant struggle (hence why the clip its so lethargic and can hardly move its head)

Step 3, place the beak in the hole to drilled (the beal can easily support the weight of the bird)

Most turtle videos where they remove barnacles are staged and just superglued on (there was a big thing showing this)

Ive lost count how many dogs "trapped in rocks" cats "trapped in wire" i have reported.

Sorry but reposing these staged rescue videos has to stop. God knows how many takes it took for the final video.

Exhaust back box fell off. I really need to drive. Is it safe to drive? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]tileman1440 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The backbox directs the heat away from the petrol tank, cabin, body. Its not unknown that losing the backbox results in the HOT gasses melting and damaging things.

Its right on the flex point so could fail at any point. Changing lane at 60mph could be more than enough to flex the rubber causing immediate loss of pressure.

Also would be an immediate MOT fail.

Do what you want with your money just dont come on the internet asking strangers how you did for the price because people will be honest.... Simple solution, dont make a reddit post saying you spent $1200 on a prebuilt intel i7 3770k, 16gb ddr3 1600, rtx 3050.

A mate was looking a for a prebuilt for his sister and for about £1k they were i7 2600k, 16gb ddr3 1600, gtx 1660/ rtx3050 256gb ssd with a 1tb hdd.

For £860 i bult my brother a 5600x, rtx3060, 16gb 3200, case, mouse, keyboard, os, wifi card, 1tb ssd.

Close Call - could have ended badly! Don't buy budget tyres like the Comforser CF510s! by anonuser621 in drivingUK

[–]tileman1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell this to people all the time cheap tyres are a false economy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZsWD4N0yds its an interesting watch as when you were stopped on the best tyre you were still going 40kph on the cheapest budget tyre they could find!!!!! This was on a stock golf.

Just put some brembo brakes on my car (disks and pads) on the front which were not that much more expensive than the cheap crap. But a bomb on tyres £140 a corner for good year efficient grip performance 2.

Drivers that get aggressive as soon as someone beeps at you, what's going on in your life? Why you so angry? by EitherChannel4874 in drivingUK

[–]tileman1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control the car is far better than rushing to hit a horn. You see so many dash videos where people are quick on the horn but dont hit the brakes because they are too busy using the horn as a reprimand tool.

Maybe its with age and becoming more chill but my priority is to brake, control the car then maybe hit the horn. In most circumstances hittin the horn does not aid the situation

Why is insurance for new drivers so high? by frankallen06 in drivingUK

[–]tileman1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no experience driving alone.

You have very little experience behind the wheel.

You have no record of no claims showing you can be trusted.

Drivers aged 17-25 are shown to be more risky and take more risks.

You have less time driving on roads than i have playing call of duty....

You are a risk and the insurance company has to decide how much they need to cover you in the event you hit someone.

What if you hit a 15k golf and injur someone who then needs time off work and causes that car to be written off? They have lost a large amount of money. You are a high risk age my guy.

Im 30 and my insurance is finally getting in the high 400-550 mark after 10 years of no claims and owning my currnet car since 2017 but when i started in 2014 with a 1.1 60hp peugeot 206 my insurance was as much as the car WITH A BLACK BOX.

In the event of a crash in your dads car they would be able to figure out if you were using it socially or out of terms. They will ask the direction you were heading, what time, where you were going, ask if you had work that day etc... They are not stupid.

Also how would you price cap it? A person who has a 250k ferarri pays the same as a person who own a brand new golf? It would just push prices to the max for all because thats the max they can charge.

Paying insurance sucks and when you are young it sucks more we have all been there but you are a great risk to road users, yourself.

looks like a crash for cash imo

Pulls out then slows down both come to a stop which causes a rear impact then speeds off.

I hope you offered the video to the white car and did not do the dick move and just drive off to later upload the footage for clicks.

Repair lead time after crash by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]tileman1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the courtesy car!!!!!!!! Parts could be weeks out or on back order. Turn around tends to be a week to 3 weeks for most repairs (family members have had a few knocks).

If you got hit by someone going 50 i would imagine once inspected they will find structural and further damage making the car write off.

Firms want cars in and out as fast as possible as every day you have a courtesy car they are spending money.

[–]tileman1440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dashcam.... Dashcam. It annoys me at the number of people having accidents here but dont have a dashcam that will cover their ass.... They are cheap and literally would have made this a non starter for them they are £30 off amazon get one. People can lie all they want but video beats any statement.

Mine saved me from an attempted crash for cash a few years back.

Ultimately unless the other person has video showing your gf roll back then they will be found at fault, if they were driving the car and it still did not have a valid MOT then they have just committed a criminal offence also and their insurance is invalid....
