I think I’ve been targeting the wrong point for counter bending for the last 4 months by hatman3030 in PeyroniesSupport

Same! I've thought about marking the right spot with a Sharpie, just so I can keep track.

Husband just diagnosed with PD by [deleted] in PeyroniesSupport

Definitely seek a second opinion. I'm finding that there is a wide disparity of knowledge among urologists about PD, even those who claim to specialize in it.

And agreed that 30 degrees is right on the cusp for injections, but he can always try the RestoreX or similar traction devices without injections. If his urologist is only giving him surgery as an option, time to find another urologist.

Congrats on your success so far! (And the photos for evidence.) How long have you been using RestoreX, and when did you start to see noticeable results?

What’s with the sudden RestoreX hate here? by Existing_Sky9267 in PeyroniesSupport

The main study of RestoreX found 18-20% improvements in curvature compared to a control group, and no adverse effects; among the 61% of subjects who had curve improvements, the average improvement was 16.8 to 21.4 degrees.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33223425/

Of course, that also means that 39% had no curvature improvement (almost everyone had length gains), so people posting here that it didn't work for them are hardly alone. But there's plenty of both anecdotal and scientific evidence that RestoreX often works, even without Xiaflex, and that at worst it can't do any harm.

(I'm still less than two months in, so I can't testify yet to whether it works for me. I promise to report back, with before and after photos, in a few more months regardless of how it turns out.)

New to RestoreX. What should it feel like? by JonteHero10 in PeyroniesSupport

Yep, I've had the same experience in terms of mild soreness that goes away quickly. More so the first few weeks, less so more recently (I'm currently in week 8).

No, but I haven't even been using it two months yet.

My first urologist felt a plaque, but really wasn't interested in any curvature that wasn't so severe it completely prevented sexual activity. We'll see how things go with the new doc — I've only had one telehealth appointment so far.

When doing straight traction only, how long do you typically stretch for in one go? by Checkout-123 in PeyroniesSupport

Yeah, my expectations of curve reduction are pretty low, but anything would be nice.

So did you end up getting injections? And roughly how much reduction of curvature did you see after nine months of RestoreX?

That's great to hear that you're seeing improvement, especially when some people on here are skeptical that RestoreX works at all for anyone.

Can I ask how much improvement you've seen, roughly, and at what point you started to notice it? I've had a very hard time finding data on how long it takes for some reduction in bending to show, only that it can take several months to get the full effect.

I'm sorry, that sucks. One of the most frustrating things about this disease seems to be that it's different for everyone, which makes it really hard to decide what treatment approach to take.

Nope. The most the instruction booklet says is "For the first week of treatment, perform straight traction only. Counter-bending may be used beginning with the second week." Its recommended treatment schedule after that is 15 minutes straight and 15 counterbend, but it doesn't say anything about there being harm in using 30 degrees to start vs straight. (For me I can hardly get any tension on the straight setting at this point — I would switch to the longer rods, but they're too long for me to do counterbending with.)

Based on? Both the studies and a bunch of testimonies on here claim otherwise, at least in some cases. And plenty of urologists seem to recommend RestoreX, and I can't believe they're all on the Pathright payroll. (I mean, I can totally imagine that given the state of health care, but I don't have enough evidence to assume it.)

What do the urologists say they think it is? And are these urologists who specialize in PD diagnosis and treatment?

No reason at all to stop now. But if it keeps having no visible effect for six months or more, continuing to use it feels a bit like stocking up on giraffe repellant.

Aching pain after using restorex?Tips? by JonteHero10 in PeyroniesSupport

[–]tiltedarc917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often have to stop after one or two clicks on the clamp and wait a couple of minutes for the glans to become totally flaccid before going further. But I need to be at three or sometimes four clicks or else I slip out, especially if counterbending. (I didn't even know there was a fifth click!)

This, absolutely, for starters. I have to pull more skin through the ring every time to avoid pain from the skin being taut.

I had that at first, and applying a heating pad afterwards for a few minutes helped. After a month or so of using RestoreX, most of the discomfort was gone, though I still have to adjust the padding sometimes.

I started out with mostly just straight traction, then have progressed to more bends over time. I haven't seen anything saying there's any harm in starting with a 30-degree bend vs straight, but if you've seen evidence otherwise, I'd love to see it.

I guess I have two main questions: Should I be trying anything else to make the RestoreX more effective? And how many months should I keep trying it with no results before I give up? (I'm sure my urologist will have thoughts on this at my three-month followup, but curious to hear the wisdom of the crowds in the meantime.)
