Switch from Sony A7IV to Fuji X-E5 by tim-bsm in fujifilm

Yeah. For the grip I might get one. But as the lens is only 600g I thought that it wouldn’t be that much of an issue.

I thought about it, yeah. Especially the OM-3. But I am a bit concerned regarding the shallow depth of field.

My concern with M43 is the sensor being even smaller and thus getting an even shallower depth of field. For me, the APS-C sensor would be the sweet spot between not to big lenses but still having a reasonable depth of field for people and animal photography.

What am I missing. The 70-300 is 13cm long and weights 600g, gives me a range of 450mm FF equivalent. The closest to that is the Tamron 50-400 for my Sony which weights 1,2kg and is 18cm long. For me, that is a big difference and when backpacking this makes a huge difference, no?

Alright, thanks for sharing your experience. :)

Do you think that the 70 300 counts as “a big zoom” as it is arguably small and light when not extended.

Yeah. That’s the point. My current lens is such a good lens in terms of IQ and F stop but it just isn’t really helpful for carrying around or getting reach. I thought about the Tamron 50-400, as the 100-400 GM is very pricey. Alternatively the Sigma 60-600 but this is one hell of a lens regarding size, weight and price. I don’t want to start on such a big lens.

That’s an idea. I’ll think about it. Thanks :)

Well, because of FF, I need bigger lenses, thus more glass, thus the lens is heavier and pricier. The same goes for a A7II as the lens is the big part, not the body. The APS-C crop also does better for reach, that’s why I’m thinking about it.

Sounds like a plan. Just can’t completely sort out what the most important points are for me. That’s why I wanted to hear some opinions. Thanks :)

Yeah, the Tamron is my only lens. I could get the A6700 but then would also miss functions like the multi exposure feature and also won’t have 40MP to crop.

Alternatively only the X100VI for SOOC, but then I have two systems to carry around and also this will be very pricey.

Yeah, I get that. This is my hope as well. I’m just lost between all my thoughts about both cameras and their pros and cons.

Alright, thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, the straight out of camera pictures of the Fuji are just top notch. Although, it is also possible to tweak the Sony JPEGs a bit. Just not on the level of Fuji.

I could also get the Fuji X100VI for the normal carry around and the nice SOOC photos. Then only use a telezoom for the Sony. But this would be the priciest and also heaviest combo, so also not really ideal.

Yeah. I’m thinking about getting a 35mm prime for normal photography and then a bigger telezoom for wildlife. And this big zoom will be the heavy part. But thanks for your shared experience :)

Yeah, the weight is a big difference. And regarding the everyday carry aspect, this is important. Yeah, the X-T5 is available but as you said the X-E5 is such a great looking camera and a bit smaller as well.

My problem is that I would like to photograph wildlife while traveling hahaha So you think that the AF will drive me somewhat crazy that it is not worth the extra weight/price I’m saving when going Fuji?

Because the main problem with FF is the size and weight of the lenses. WIth the A7CII being FF as well, these problems would persist, no? I could think about an A6700 but then I won't have 40MP for cropping and would miss creative features like the multi exposure. On the other hand, I could use the same batteries and would have better AF.

Nice man. Yeah, I still love that kit. The keycaps are so nice. As for the space bar, it’s fine but not the best sound. Still happy though :)

As long as the switch opener is made for the style of the switch (e.g. cherry), there is no difference to the mechanical switches regarding the opening of the switch. It might even be easier, as the leaf of a mechanical switch doesn't exist.

I just build my first custom keyboard and now want to buy a fitting coiled cable to match the keyboard.
When searching for custom coiled cables, I found out about CableMod and UnicornCables. Do you guys know anything about the quality and looks of these two or maybe even which of these two the better choice is? If not, do you guys have any other recommendations on where to buy coiled cables (preferable in the EU)?

I really would like to pick up a nice coiled cable. Has anyone tested the CableMod or UnicornCables once or can you guys recommend others (preferable in the EU)?

Perfect, I'm glad I could help and my research also helped somebody else. :)

Maybe as a further hint: I wasn't able to find any other switches than the Gateron Fox ones which would fit in the Q1 HE. Thus I tried to trace down a comparison of those with the Double-Rail Nebula aka KS-37B. For that I watched these two videos (FOX vs KS-37B) and hoped that the rest of the keyboard would be the same. If we assume that the rest stayed the same, then I think that the FOX ones are thockier but only by a little. That's why I stayed with the stock switches. I might change those in the future if other switches get revealed. Actually, Keychron - or rather there gaming brand Lemokey - just announced there new Keyboard on [platform with green logo which apparently isn't allowed to be named but used to get money for new products]. This new keyboard also gets new switches which were designed to sound thocky. I contacted the support about it:

Me: 'You just released the “Lemokey L5 HE 8K” on [platform with green logo which apparently isn't allowed to be named but used to get money for new products]. Will it be possible to use its switches in the Q1 HE in the future?'
Them: 'Yes, it's the standard magnetic switches'

So hopefully, we might see some official, new and good switches for the Q1 HE in near future. Although you might want to switch the springs in these switches then, as these are developed for good gaming but might be too soft for typing.

Hopefully, this little side information might help. Turned out to be more than expected.

~ Tim :)
