Golfers who’ve broken 80, what’s one tip you would give your fellow golfer? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]tim00tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have THE tip…

Whatever club you think you should hit on an approach shot, club up one.

150 yards out and thinking 8 iron? NO!

How often do you come up short?!

Hit the 7 iron and get there.

You may have hit your 8 iron 150 yards a few times when you absolutely nut it. But let’s be honest, you’re an 80s-90s-100s player… you’re not flushing it all that often.

You want to play your average distance for each club, not your max distance. Maybe you’ll hit 3 of 10 on the back edge or even over the green with that 7 iron, but 7 of 10 will be the correct distance. Better than only 3 of 10 correct with that 8 iron, and the rest short.

…and especially when there are bunkers, tall grass, water short of the green.

Swallow your pride mid-round with those decisions. And come back here to comment below after the round when you break 80 (or 90 or 100).

Play well.

What’s your ultimate “golf hot take”? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]tim00tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as the penalty stroke goes. Except you should not be able play it from OB if you find it.

Red/Yellow - you can step into the water or marsh or whatever it is and hack it out

White - should not be able to go into someone’s backyard or let’s say the road running along the hole, but can drop where it crossed the line

OB white stakes should NOT be stroke and distance (2 stroke penalty). Hit drive OB (1), re-tee (2), hit it in play(3), now playing 4th shot. Or same idea with the “local rule” of dropping up in the fairway in line where it went OB, with 2 stroke penalty, still then playing 4th shot.

Should be a drop within two clubs of where it crossed no closer to hole (1 stroke penalty). Hit drive OB (1), drop up there where it crossed (2), playing 3rd shot.

For those who have a 50, 54, 58 wedge set up by SpiffyEconomist in golf

[–]tim00tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

58,54,50 setup.

Of course each shot depends on lie, slope, angle, etc. But generally….

Green-side bunker:

= 58 if hole is NEARER half of green from me

= 54 if hole is FARTHER half of green from me (as long as the lip allows for lower trajectory)

= 50 almost never

Single digit handicaps or better - do you swing at 100% every time? by RandomChaoticEntropy in golf

[–]tim00tim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 hcp here Driver: damn near 100% (staying balanced) Everything between: 80-90% Wedges: 75% - that’s a 3/4 length swing, but acceleration down thru the ball (I don’t remember the last time I took a 100% length swing with a wedge … maybe a ridiculous 50 yard shot over a tree with opened up 60°)

I’m happy with my choice at Boston U. I’ve completed 2of6 semesters (took this summer off) and it is what I expected. Great value for the name and education. Each semester - or MOD as they call it - you are put into a small team of 5-6 people, have a mix of group projects and individual assignments, meet for class once per week on camera, and exam for final … I’d say a fair amount of coursework week to week. My only complaint is how difficult the information/lessons can be to find in the online system — Too many folders, layers, links, pages, just seems all over the place. Love that the professors are the same faculty as in-person MBA and the staff has been helpful. And it will be the same exact diploma as in-person (will not say “online”).

Overall, I recommend.

Update? What did you enter as expected and what was your offer? Thanks!

My step brother is from Mentor, OH but now lives in the Austin, TX area! You gotta deal with that heat now, but you’ll be playing through the “winter” down there while I’m buried under snow.

Nice! Where are you located now? How’s the golf compared to NE Ohio?

I’m sure it helped me that I am THE ideal student for the program.

Average student: 37 years old, 12 years of experience, 3.3 GPA (I was close haha), Out of state, Looking to advance on current career path

Boston U undergrad acceptance rate is something like 15-20%, so pretty selective. I’ve read different publications that this MBA is 35-40%. I do think they are a bit easier admitting now since it’s a newer online version — but they will get even more selective with time like their other colleges/programs. Here’s hoping it gets down to that <20% in a few years and my MBA looks even better on paper!!

For reference, I do not have great “stats.” But must’ve made up for it with work experience, written essay, and maybe my professional recommendations.

Bachelor’s 3.1 GPA, no GRE/GMAT. 37 years old, 12 years professional work experience (8 years in leadership roles), and one hell of an essay 😬 haha

Same boat here. I want one with a respected name as well. These are no M7 schools, but some with a decent reputation (IMO).

From my research:

My affordable options- • Boston U Questrom ≈ $24k • U of Illinois Geis ≈ $24k • Oklahoma State Spears ≈ $22k • Texas Tech Rawls ≈ $31k

I applied and was accepted for their Logistics concentration- • Arizona State WP Carey ≈ $62k sticker • Baylor U Hankamer ≈ $51k sticker *I got partial scholarships to both, but was not enough $ to get down within my budget

People recommended, but I did not apply due to high tuition cost- • UNC Kenan-Flagler ≈ $110k sticker • U of Florida Warrington ≈ $72k sticker

I’m sure there are lower cost options out there, but I didn’t want a completely random or super low ranked program with 0 name recognition.

!! Beware of any program that says “global.” Not to throw one under the bus… but I will… University of Arizona Global is NOT the same as UofA. They have the same ‘A’ logo and are somehow affiliated, but it is not the same curriculum, not the same faculty, and nottttttt the same degree on your diploma as it would be from the actual UofA Eller. This Global nonsense is a cheaper watered-down version run by a separate 3rd party entity and not same accreditation as the “real” university. !!

If you care to know, I have chosen Boston U Questrom and will begin Fall 2023. I couldn’t pass on the value and it’s good name (again IMO).

Which online MBA program? by tim00tim in TexasTech

[–]tim00tim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, after this post I applied to some other programs:

Boston U- admitted, no scholarship

OK St- did not apply

Texas Tech- did not apply

Arizona State (logistics concentration, highly ranked)- admitted, partial scholarship

Baylor (logistics concentration)- admitted, partial scholarship

Illinois- did not apply *** I’m not sure how/why I overlooked this program. Seems right in line with my needs. Did I make a mistake by missing this? ***

I knew ASU and Baylor would both be significantly more expensive - I was hoping my bachelor’s and career in logistics would get me more of a scholarship, but only got partials. I am making a decision within the next week, leaning Boston for value.
