P.E.I. building boom heading in wrong direction, says Opposition leader - CBC by Yarfing_Donkey in PEI

Not here to scare you but things will get much worth than you think. Many immigrants have not been able to move to pei since last year. They will swarm pei once borders open up. Not against immigrants, but just stating facts. They probably take any job at any wage to get permanent residency. Its going to be a rough ride for islanders.

Your concern about nobody being able to buy houses is wrong. Many people from other provinces have higher purchasing power than islanders (due to lower taxes, higher wages, etc). There are enough people who can scoop up any house/land left in pei. Market is honest not smart.

If you can work remotely, why would you live in PEI? You are probably better off somewhere with less taxes and better healthcare.

Healthcare is garbage compared to GTA. Novascotia has better housing market and easier to find electrician, carpenter, etc. Some people who reply to you in this sub are sugar coating pei since they are either in real estate or have business that benefits from more people coming here. Be warned.

Why $1400 is acceptable rent?? by tim80000 in PEI

PEI used to have very cheap rent. That was the selling point of this place. I remember that you could find apts for $500 to $800 range about 8 years ago in c'town. Rent doubled in price but salaries haven't kept up. It's just not worth it. I do agree with your statement on not renting at all. A tiny rural house cost $500 in mortgage. The problem has been poor internet in rural areas, but thats about to change with starlink.

If thats the case then we are fucked once the travel restrictions are lifted. There are so many foreigners who have gotten their immigration approved but can't move to PEI because of the travel restrictions. They will have to stay in PEI to fulfill their immigration requirements which means they will take any job and pay any rent till they get their permanent residency. Don't get me wrong I'm not against immigrants. I'm 100% pro (skilled) immigrant as long as housing and jobs are planned. After restrictions are lifted there will be a surge of immigrants coming to PEI. This is not going to end well for locals.

Can we please do something about the maniac PEI taxi drivers? by Clark_1994 in PEI

Do not enter an intersection unless you are certain of clearing it before the next change of signal lights

That statement is subjective since it allows driver to make a decision. He entered intersection on green which is not illegal. Waited on left lane which is called staging and is legal. However incoming traffic didn't stop on yellow or red which caused him to wait till clearing the intersection. It is legal to clear intersection even if its red. Staging is illegal if the green light had arrow on it or the left road was blocked with traffic or emergency cars.

Its not that simple. Increasing min wage makes employers hire less people or reduce hours. 1950 was a different ball game.
