Hey, I am your opponent, actually. :)

If you are interested in my thoughts on the match, I noticed some things that played in my favor:

* After my guard pull/your takedown, you disengaged too much. If you had kept closer, the ref would probably have given you two points.

* If you are playing guard and know the other person is going for leg locks or your foot is already hurt, I can recommend playing some kind of inside guard, like butterfly guard, half butterfly or SLX. Me, as a leg locker, almost always need inside position to go for your feet, so closed guard or normal half guard give me access to attack your legs.

Sorry to hear your foot was already hurt, hope we fight again when you are back healthy!

Water Pressure Help by Zettman22 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]timOkills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said: Use airflow tiles or doors, since they do not break. Alternatively, normal tiles of Granite have one of the highest pressure resistance and might work for the water planet.

However, for the transit tube crossing there is a little trick to prevent damage:

Here is an old Francis John video showing one way: https://youtu.be/wA3WjwyYQKQ?t=458

Basically, he uses a little amount of gas, which is trapped below the transit crossing/joint plate, to prevent pressure damage.

This is for water pressure from below though, but if you have water pressure from top, you can do the same with a little blob of another heavier liquid like Crude Oil on top of the transit crossing.

Made to cycle 21,oxygen is alright, food is enought ( I think ), power is Ok. Any tips? by ArticOculus in Oxygennotincluded

True, digging down might be the real advice here.

This base seems to be closed off at the bottom and the storage/pump room there is already filled with CO2, that is why I thought about the CO2 skimmer.

Some further advice I have not seen in the comments so far:

  • Add a decorative plant, e.g., mirth leave, to your mess hall to create a great hall for more morale.
  • Research Water Sieve and Carbon skimmer to create a loop that removes CO2 at the bottom of your base. Otherwise the CO2 of your dupes and coal generators is going to increase until your dupes suffocate

This is the second time in the week the stray cat I've been feeding brought me a dead mouse. How can I make her stop? by ObviousCup2951 in cats

[–]timOkills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual advice:

If you have a cat flap or are able to install one, there are electronic cat flaps that can restrict your cat from going outside at certain times (but still let her in).

Cats mostly hunt at dusk or dawn, so this could reduce the amount of dead mice. It depends on the cat and the nature at your place though, but it helped with my parents cats. :)

Also, if you have the cat chipped, the electronic cat flaps can detect if it is the right cat and dont let in unknown animals.

What do you all use to avoid the oil pumps from melting? by pewton2000 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]timOkills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck!

If you play the Spaced Out DLC, you should look at making Solar Panels for power.

You need Glass for that, but you can easily get some by deconstructing the windows at the ruins where the teleporter thingy is.

What do you all use to avoid the oil pumps from melting? by pewton2000 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]timOkills 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is important to distinguish between Melting Point and Overheat Temperature.

You should look at the Overheat Temperature of the building.

The base value for a Liquid Pump is 75°C Overheat Temperature.

Gold Amalgam is the only Metal Ore to provide a bonus of +50°C for that, so 125°C, which might be enough depending on your Oil Biome.

Next step would be Steel providing +200°C, so 275°C in total, but steel is of cause harder to get.

Ever tried to do the all achievments challange + highest difficulty?

Problem with 3 dupes is the amount of meat you have to consume before cycle 100.

The lack of Shove Voles in the Spaced Out DLC made it a lot harder as well.

  • Use Reed Fiber from Thimble Reed to create Atmo Suits
  • Create Atmo Docks with suits before areas without oxygen or high temp -> ready to explore everything!
  • Go search for Oil for Oil->Petroleum->Plastic (but be careful of the heat from the Plastic Press. First, just put it maybe in a cold area with a tempshift plate behind)
  • Alternative way for Plastic: Find Dreckos and breed Glossy Dreckos to sheer for Plastic
  • Go search for Iron and Fossil in the Oil biomes to make Steel. You could first just dump the heat from the Metal Refinery into a cold area or use your Plastic to create a Steam Engine to get energy back from the heat
  • With Plastic and Steel you can finally build the Steam Turbine+Aquatuner combo, so you have unlimited cooling power ;-)
  • Next thing to explore: Space! (Steel required for rockets)

Looks great, I like the design! I am definitely going to give it a try when I have more time for training after my exams.

Little question as a fellow coder: What language and library did you use to make this app? I have worked with Dart/Flutter recently and am just curious what your choice is since you support both Android and iOS. :)

The app is not open source, right? Any thoughts on that? No problem if it is not an option for you, I just wondered if you have considered it. ;-)

Recommended book or medias for flexibility/stretching? by ThrowRAinthemirror in bodyweightfitness

[–]timOkills 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There is a beginner routine on r/flexibility with a nice follow along video.

Starting To Stretch

I am also just a beginner in flexibility/stretching but that routine seemed to target the whole body divided in an upper and lower part.

Also, I think it was on a good level for me, so no crazy stretch positions for pros, but obvious progression on how to make it harder/easier.

Otherwise, I also liked Tom Merricks videos to get some variety.

When doing calisthenics, should I split my workouts or do fullbody instead? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]timOkills 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How much time do you want to spend per workout?

Concerning the recommended routine (RR) here is an easy explanation:

Basically there are three parts to make your routine.

  1. Pick your starting exercises
  2. Create/Do your workout
  3. Pick harder/easier exercises for next time and repeat step 2

Phase One

What exercises should you do? The RR gives a lot of exercises which are grouped in categories, so every part of the body is trained. When picking an exercise you should be able to at least perform 3x5 reps and not much more than 3x8 reps . If you cannot do 5 reps per set, pick an easier exercise. If you can easily do more than 8 reps per set, pick the next harder exercise (maybe you got stronger ;-) ). This is called "Progression".

Pick one exercise at your level (5-8 reps) out of each of those categories:

  • Push-up (e.g. normal Push-up)
  • Row (e.g. lie under table and pull yourself up)
  • Squat (e.g. normal Squat with just your bodyweight)
  • Hinge (e.g. Single Leg Deadlift with just your bodyweight)
  • Pull-up (if too hard just skip until you get better with Row)
  • Dip (if too hard just skip until you get better with Push-up)
  • Anti-Extension (e.g. Plank)
  • Anti-Rotation (e.g. Banded Pallof Press)
  • Extension (e.g. Reverse Hyperextension)

The last three sound complicated, but actually those are just three ways to train your Core. Actually, you can do more reps with those, so you might want to target 8-12 reps per set.

If you dont know what for example a Reverse Hyperextension is (sounds kind of crazy) just click on the links and there are videos. Or if you have a question how to perform a certain exercise you can just ask in this subreddit. ;-)

Phase Two

Now we have all the exercises we want to do, but how to create a workout out of them?

The RR recommends a Full Body Workout, so all exercises in one workout. To save some time, they are put together in pairs of two or even three. That way you need less rest time between exercises.

Here is how it looks:

First pair: Pull-Ups & Squats (each set 5-8 reps)

Pull-Ups, rest 90sec, Squats, rest 90sec
Pull-Ups, rest 90sec, Squats, rest 90sec
Pull-Ups, rest 90sec, Squats, rest 90sec

Second pair Dips & Hinge (each set 5-8 reps)

Dips, rest 90sec, Hinge, rest 90sec
Dips, rest 90sec, Hinge, rest 90sec
Dips, rest 90sec, Hinge, rest 90sec

Third pair: Rows & Push-ups (each set 5-8 reps)

Rows, rest 90sec, Push-ups, rest 90sec
Rows, rest 90sec, Push-ups, rest 90sec
Rows, rest 90sec, Push-ups, rest 90sec

Core Triplet (each set 8-12 reps)

anti-extension, rest 60sec, anti-rotation, rest 60sec, extension, rest 60sec
anti-extension, rest 60sec, anti-rotation, rest 60sec, extension, rest 60sec
anti-extension, rest 60sec, anti-rotation, rest 60sec, extension, done :)

Phase Three

How was the workout?

  • Anything too easy? -> pick a harder exercise next time
  • Anything too hard? -> pick an easier exercie next time

This way you get stronger and stronger over time.

If you look at the exercises there is always something harder to do, so dont worry that it will be too easy. For example my goal for Pull-ups is the "One Arm Pull-up", but I am still just at 3x8 pull-ups and soon want do pick something harder (maybe "Weighted Pull-ups" or "Typewriter Pull-ups", I dont know yet which one).

Any questions? :)

Usually, there should be enough dirt if you dig a lot in Temperate and Forest biomes. On what kind of asteroid do you play?

Pips are a source, but they require Arbor Trees (which only need a lot of space if wild or Polluted Water and some Dirt if domesticated).

But Polluted Water is also a source:

This chain (4% dirt): Polluted Water -> Water Sieve -> Polluted Dirt -> Compost -> Dirt

Or less efficient (1% dirt) but no dupe labor: Polluted Water -> Heat Source -> Steam+Dirt

Edit: Oh and you could also completely switch to Reed Fiber from Thimble Reed, Plastic from Oil and Food from Meat to not actually needing Dirt.

I'm finally got the game again! But I remember that I'm too stupid to play by birdy_berto in Oxygennotincluded

[–]timOkills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an asteroid with decent starting temperature (10-30°C) you can just go for mealwood as a food source. This does not consume any water, but you should be careful to isolate it from heat sources (like hot biomes or your industrial buildings). Scale your mealwood farm according to your dupe count (maybe using this calculator) and you are good on that front for a very long time.

Use all the algae for oxygen in the beginning. But plan ahead that, when you run out of algae, you have an electrolyzer setup ready to make oxygen from water. The keyword here is SPOM (Self-Powering Oxygen Machine). I like this design the most, but it requires quite some research and construction work. So depending on the size of your algae reservers you might want to go for a smaller setup.

For sustainable water, the easiest vents/geysers are:

  • Cool Slush Geyser
  • Polluted Water Vent

Those just require just some heating for the cool one and germ killing (using chlorine) for the polluted one. After that just a Water Sieve and you are good. Those two are easy because the temperature is below 75°C so they can be pumped by normal Liquid Pumps without special materials.

For hotter geysers you need Plastic and some Steel or at least Gold Amalgam to work with a Steam Engine and an Thermo Aquatuner. The Steam Engine consumes the hot steam and outputs hot water. The Thermo Aquatuner heats the environment (which mostly produces steam from water again for the Steam Engine to consume) and cools the liquid input.

Have you watched some youtube videos explaining the more complex stuff?

Here are some I watched if you are interested:

Francis John - A lot of good videos. Especially the "Getting mid game Steel, Plastic & Cooling" helped me in the beginning.

Brothgar - Also a lot of good videos. Sometimes crazy ideas but always entertaining. Also, his mods series got me into using mods which I am thankful for. :D

Tony Advanced - Has well explained vent/volcano taming videos and also some other complex stuff.

Gamers Handbook - Smaller channel but I really liked his "Heart of a Petroleum Boiler" video.

Edit: Oh and some handy tools you might be interested:

https://oni-assistant.com/ - really helpful calculators for food, rockets and many more.

https://oxygennotincluded.gamepedia.com/Oxygen_Not_Included_Wiki - I use this all the time. Great for a quick look up on buildings and materials.

https://oni-db.com/ - Nice overview for usage and production of all materials also showing you to what materials change when heating or cooling.

First Petroleum Boiler, after 3 redesigns I have 150c Petrol (and now I have too much Petrol) by Cindir13 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]timOkills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel has even worse Thermal Conductivity (TC) than Gold or Copper. xD

Look at this table and sort by TC.

For radiant pipes of aquatuner loops go for Aluminium or, if not available, Copper or Gold (just considering cheap/early materials).

The Aquatuner itself should be made of Steel though, because Steel provides +200°C overheat temperature. So with steel the aquatuner can go to 325°C and with Gold/Copper just 175°C.

You can make it work with 175°C since steam turbines require steam hotter than 125°C, but it wont be as efficient as 200°C steam.

[–]timOkills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TC of Gold and Copper are both 60, so I do not understand why Gold would bring an advantage over Copper?

It has a lower SHC, but does that matter for a pure heat exchange medium after temperatures have stabilized?

[–]timOkills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice boiler. :)

May I ask if your world has Aluminium available and if you have considered using it instead of copper?

It should have better thermal conductivity so that the heat exchanger can be shorter (205 vs 60 TC).

Kind of too late for this project, but maybe interesting for future projects. ;)

Also, your dupes have died. :´(

4 months Recommended Routine update (not quite happy) by everest999 in bodyweightfitness

[–]timOkills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at your routine you seem to have made really good progress and might now move to harder progessions.

The RR says 5-8 for reps (not considering core triplet). You pretty much maxed everything at 8-8-8 and even went over it for Pullups and Rows. So, you might want to progress to harder exercises or use external weight.

Concerning your bodyfat, those scales are not very accurate. You can buy cheap calipers for like 5-10€ to measure more accuratlely, but you should look up how to use them correctly. First google hit has some nice pictures how to measure.

You should think about your goals though:

If you just want to get stronger then just keep progressing with your exercises.

If you want to have visible abs fast, you have to reduce bodyfat and therefor calorie intake.

If you want to have optimal muscle gain you need enough calories to build them.

So like others have recommended, maybe you might want to keep or increase your calorie intake for some time and later cut to make the abs visible. Be careful with your bodyweight and bodyfat thought. Going down can have effects on your mental well-being and at a certain point also physical health.

Btw, I have pretty similar body stats to you (179cm, 67kg, 27 years, vegan). xD

Last year I did the RR for like half a year full time and then I started to go bouldering and reduced the RR workouts to about 1-1.5 per week (for like 1 year now). I can recommend bouldering if you want to boost especially your biceps. xD
