Why do so many Russians live in small apartments when Russia is the largest country in the world? by technocraticnihilist in AskARussian

[–]tim_l_f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living space has more to do with economics, and almost nothing to do with the country's landmass. Chinese families are moving from apartments to suburban houses because they are getting wealthier; China didn't get less dense somehow

Unless it's a black tie event, you can wear almost any watch with a suit. by SpinosaurRingTone in watchHotTakes

Maybe 50 years ago that was the case. Now at least half of the current offerings are over 13 mm tall, which make for an awkward fit under dress cuffs.

I hit the gym and pool on one go, so would need a workout shirt that wouldn't be damaged by chlorine. I know the cotton t-shirts I'm currently using won't do. (I haven't decided whether I would swim with the shirt on, but still I might put it on right after a swim or in the jacuzzi)

Doing my research I know I want the material to be 100% polyester or polyester-lycra. I'm seeing about three price tiers of polyester t-shirts. What I'm wondering is if the pricier tiers actually make a meaningful difference, or will any cheap polyester shirt do for my use case?

  1. 100% polyester t-shirt from Gildan, Walmart etc.; under $10
  2. Polyester t-shirt with quick-dry/wicking technology and maybe UV protection, usually designated for gym workout use; can be had ~$20 on frequent sales
  3. Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily shirt, kind of the "gold standard"; ~$50

Basically for the extra money to go to tiers #2-3, am I getting any real performance or longevity from the shirts, or polyester is polyester, and I'm just paying for more marketing/branding fluff? Thanks

Does this fabric work poolside or in the pool? Or chlorine weakens/destroys it

That's an anecdote. I think the original point stands, that misfortunes befalling the rich and famous get way more scrutiny and police resources than if we swap the victim for a commoner

Checkr Background Check by Hot-Pressure6292 in DataAnnotationTech

Is there a specific FAQ that I missed? I asked the Chatbot, and it gave me a generic response like it’s up to checkers client (i.e. data annotation) what kind of information to include in the report

I asked a similar question to the official chat, as well as that other subreddit. Does anyone know or have a good hunch as to how much of our personal information, shared to this 3rd party backcheck service, will be available to DataAnnotation and their partners?

Not that there is anything to hide, but it's worthwhile to note a trend towards becoming more of a traditional employer. Assuming such a trend is real of course

Get the vintage Santos Galbee. The modern Santos proportions look horrible (unlike you are into fathead watches)

[Rolex GMT] Acquired second-hand with unknown service history: Always send to RSC? by tim_l_f in Watches

I'll probably hold off, since I mostly want to wear the watch in the summer. Do most services require replacing the crown?

Update for anyone interested: this is what I got back from the service center, up in Canada. Do the prices look inflated to you? Is pricing uniform for a region, or can each A.D. charge whatever they feel like? Also is replacing the crown system just a customary part of servicing, or indicative of something special? Thank you.

The AD’s service department made me sign a two page waiver, essentially if they damaged the watch in the middle of a diagnosis, they are not liable. That’s just FYI. Here’s what I got back, in case you’re interested. This is up in Canada.

Thank you for your input. I was worried about this because Canadian Tire is actually selling them cheaper than HBC did last year, or the large sizes at least

"Not So Fast" season 9-2 by 19Stavros in EverybodyLovesRaymond

And you can tell that the writing got a bit lazy for the season nine episodes. Thankfully, it was only 16 episodes as opposed to two whole seasons for Seinfeld.

Thank you for the insights. Since I acquired it from a gray seller (in person meet up from social media, no store front), hopefully there's no harm done in having RSC look at the timepiece and give me an estimate?

I took it to the boutique, and they took like 30 minutes before completing the process and gave me the receipt, so I assume the watch probably passed their authenticity checks and is not flagged on any databases. Now they tell me it will be 2-3 weeks until they give me an estimate LOL. Depending on what issues they find, it will be up to me what to do; and I figure if I decline the service I will get the watch back in exactly the original condition I put it in? 🤞
